Parent Opinion Survey 2017

It’s that time of the year again.

The Department of Education is conducting a survey to find out what you think of our school.

The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria.

This year, about 30 per cent of parents are invited to participate. All responses to the survey are anonymous.

The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships.

Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed

from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.

The survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi. Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September. For more information, see Parent Opinion Survey

Crazy Hair Day for Cystic Fibrosis

Thursday 10th August 2017

We host one of the year’s most fun and creative fundraising events- Crazy Hair Day for Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a relatively common inherited disease in which from infancy there are recurrent chest infections causing lung damage, intestinal malabsorption leading to severe malnutrition and growth failure, and there is an excess of salt in the sweat. Untreated, the condition is usually fatal in infancy or early childhood. With treatment, the average life expectancy of people who live to adulthood is about 37 years and this is increasing. A great way for schools to get lively while raising awareness and money for kids living with Cystic Fibrosis. Crazy Hair Day is the perfect excuse to tease, colour, gel or twist your hair all in the name of a fabulous cause. For a gold coin donation $1 or $2 your children can wear their craziest hair at school. Remember to still dress in full school uniform on the day.

2017 Book Character Parade When: Wednesday 23rd of August 2017 Time: 9:15 am It’s time to get excited for the annual Book Character Parade. The parade is a big event where children and teachers dress in costume to represent a favourite book character. Book Week celebrations are important because it reminds everyone that books offer more than just a good story. Literature can act as a source of knowledge, a vehicle to other places, a means to peer into the past and future and so much more. Costumes for our ‘Book Character Parade’ could be made from just simple pieces of clothing or items you may have at home e.g. belts, scarves, hats, headbands, boxes, leggings to name a few. We prefer that parents don’t use hired costumes. It’s much more fun when we make them with love and with your child in mind. We are really excited to see our community come together to celebrate Book Character Parade. Be creative and see you soon! Thank you for your support. Staff

Once Upon a Tune Event: 19/8/2017

Introduce your primary school aged children to classical music through this City of Melbourne free event. Free Classical Music Adventure for Kids If you're thinking there's no way my children would sit through a classical music concert, that's OK. This is designed specifically with young children in mind.

This is an interactive story telling adventure where children get involved helping to "save the forest from the evil giant". At the same time, they can hear live instruments playing tunes from Beethoven, Brahms, and Australian composers, Schultz and Gould. Since the early 90s, studies have shown that classical music helps children's concentration, memory recall, and overall learning abilities. Yet, it can be hard to get children interested in something that they've not grown up with. This initiative from the City of Melbourne is the perfect opportunity to introduce kids to classical music - especially live classical music. Once Upon a Tune is a popular event that will be held on various Saturdays at the City Library, Melbourne. We recommend that you book well in advance. Bookings are available online.

CAN YOU HELP?? Year 1 and Year 2 students are collecting Shoe Boxes for their Sustainability project in Term 3. If you are able to assist please send along any donation of shoe boxes to the office. Thank you.
