More than 75 specialized research centers engage researchers in innovative interdisciplinary research, scholarship and creative discovery.
Atomic, molecular and optical physics students work with ultrafast intense lasers in the James R. Macdonald Lab. The Wheat Genetics Resource Center features state-of-the-art laboratories, greenhouses and �eld plot facilities. Students perform qualitative and quantitative consumer research in the Sensory and Consumer Research Center.
Other research facilities include:•Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI)•Center for Sustainable Energy•Konza Prairie Biological Research Station located on 3,487 hectare of a native tallgrass prairie preserve.

Research Opportunities
Founded in 1863 as the �rst operational land-grant university in the United States, Kansas State University is a comprehensive high-level research institution that has more than 24,000 students with many top ranked master’s and doctoral programs.

Students representing 100 countries from around the world come to K-State to study a wide range of graduate programs, which includes several interdisciplinary programs.
History of Excellence
Graduate assistantships, fellowships, scholarships and loans are available to graduate students. Most programs o�er graduate teaching or research assistantships with a monthly stipend.
Graduate students on half-time assistantships are eligible to pay resident tuition. GTAs have tuition paid for up to ten credit hours for fall and spring semesters, and up to six credit hours in the summer when on appointments.
Some graduate programs provide tuition support for the graduate research assistants. Many fellowships and scholarships for graduate study are available through individual colleges and departments. Contact your program to learn more information.

Graduate students at K-State are eligible to earn honors and awards for outstanding research, and to compete for Graduate Student Council travel grants that provide up to $750 to present research scholarship and creative discovery at professional meetings and to attend state, regional, and national conferences.
The Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Small Grant Program provides support on a competitive basis (up to a maximum of $1,000) for research, scholarship and creative discovery in those �elds where external grant funding is less prevalent.
Financial Support
Each semester, GSC provides students with: •Professional development workshops•Leadership opportunities •Networking •Social events such as the Networking and Etiquette dinner
Students may receive a certi�cate for attending �ve professional development events in the academic year.
GSC research symposiums o�er an opportunity for K-State graduate students to participate in presentation of their research at state and regional meetings. GSC also administers travel grant awards.
Last year $100,000 was allocated for graduate student travel awards from the Graduate Student Council.
Commitment to Student SuccessThe Graduate School, Graduate Student Council, and many university partners o�er a comprehensive series of lectures and workshops for professional development, research skills development, information on work-life balance, and coping with stress or other mental health and wellness sessions.
The Graduate School recognizes that the whole student needs to thrive – academically and personally - to get the most from a graduate school experience.
Courtney Passow (shown in the middle) was one of the very few selected to attend the 65th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau, Germany where she interacted with Nobel laureats in physics, physiology, medicine and chemistry.
Every spring graduate students share their research posters with state legislators and members of the Kansas Board of Regents during the Capitol Graduate Research Summit at the State Capitol Building in Topeka.
Aaron Bisch and Glen Jarrett, graduate students in architecture, received a grant from the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Small Grant Program to conduct research in Nicaragua to design a model school.
