Stories in Song: Choral Settings of Tales Familiar and New
saturday, March 16, 2019, 8:00 pm Stories are powerful, but stories illustrated in music provide the ultimate dramatic thrill. Hear stories from the sublime to the ridiculous with Copland’s In the Beginning, his stirring impression of the Biblical creation of the world; Britten’s melodramatic rendering of illicit love in The Ballad of Lady Barnard and Little Musgrove; and everything in between!
Voices from the Village: Folksongs from Around the World
saturday, May 11, 2019, 8:00 pm Folksongs are as old as civilization, and composers throughout time have used them for inspiration. From the Renaissance era with Dufay’s l‘Homme Armé and Hollander’s Innsbruch, ich muss dich lassen to the modern era with Schönberg’s settings of German folk songs, as well as other composers’ settings of Irish, British, American, Slavic, and Indonesian ones, Musica Sacra explores this rich vein of choral gold.
