REPUTATION fOR LONg-TERm DURAbILITy

When re-siding your home or building a new home, your siding choice can impact your home’s durability, maintenance and long-term curb appeal.

Composed of fiber cement, James Hardie siding leverages the long-lasting, durable properties of cement itself. On top of that, all James Hardie siding products are Engineered for Climate® to face the demands of your local climate. When UV levels, wind, rain, pests and flame are at their worst, James Hardie siding products deliver lasting durability and protection for your biggest asset.

Proof is in the PerformanceJames hardie invented fiber cement and has proven its value for over 30 years.

flame, hail, pests, rot, UV, wind

VS VINYL: Made from plastic, vinyl siding cannot withstand heavy wind, precipitation or extreme heat and is therefore susceptible to cracking, melting and denting. On the other hand, James Hardie siding products offer superior durability and resist the spread of flame, providing greater security from fire than plastic-based siding products.

VS WOOD: Despite technological advances, engineered wood products still suffer from the inherent weaknesses of any wood siding option. Unlike wood-based siding products which may rot, curl, warp or split from extended exposure to moisture, James Hardie siding products resist extreme weather conditions, prolonging the life of the siding.

For the ultimate in performance and maintenance savings, choose James Hardie siding products with ColorPlus® Technology. ColorPlus Technology is an innovative multi-coat, baked-on finish available in more than 20 colors. Because the coating is designed for fiber cement and applied in a factory-controlled environment, ColorPlus Technology optimizes finish adhesion, improves fade resistance and resists cracking to create a long-lasting, beautiful exterior. ColorPlus Technology finishes are also warranted for 15 years against peeling, cracking and chipping.

VS WOOD: Wood and engineered wood siding have a tendency to shrink and swell when exposed to moisture, which causes paint to crack and flake. With ColorPlus® siding, you get the look of authentic wood without the maintenance!

VS VINYL: Vinyl siding fades more than James Hardie siding with ColorPlus Technology. Plus, the color of vinyl siding can’t be changed even if it has noticeably faded.

Engineered wood is composed of layers of wood chips and covered in a paper laminate

Proprietary mixture of cement, sand, water and cellulose fibers

flame resistance

Will melt or burn when exposed to a significant source of heat or flame, including neighbors’ Low-E windows

Will burn when exposed to flame.Resists the spread of flame. Approved for fire-rated construction

Weatherresistant

Easily damaged by hail, tree limbs and other debris. Can become brittle when exposed to extremely cold weather

Susceptible to water absorption which can cause cracking, swelling, rotting, warping and destruction of the paint application

Engineered for Climate® to provide protection from wind, rain, UV and hail. Resists rotting, warping and cracking which means longer lasting aesthetic and better paint adhesion

termites and Pests

Woodpeckers and squirrels can damage vinyl siding and cause unsightly markings that require siding replacement to fix

When water leaching occurs in wood siding products, the board becomes more susceptible to damage from pests, woodpeckers, squirrels and termites

Provides exceptional resistance to pests and termites

Dimensionalstability

Even premium vinyl siding is only 5/100" thick. Vinyl has difficulty maintaining its original shape. It may melt or be distorted from heat or other elements

Very low dimensional stability. Requires a 3/16" gap between boards to accommodate for expansion due to water absorption. Can lead to cracking, peeling and chipping paint

Very high dimensional stability. 1/4 the movement of engineered wood. No gap required between boards for installation

Paint Durability

Color can’t be changed even if it has noticeably faded

Shrinks and swells when exposed to moisture, which causes paint to crack and flake. Requires frequent painting, caulking and spot repairs

ColorPlus® Technology is specifically formulated for use on fiber cement, improving paint adhesion and resistance to cracking, peeling and fading

REPUTATION fOR LASTINg cURb APPEAL

James Hardie siding products not only offer durability and lower maintenance, but they create an exceptionally beautiful exterior that enhances curb appeal today and ensures longevity for years to come.

Your home’s exterior is a reflection of you and your family. No matter your style – from traditional classics to cottage charm, and cool contemporary to coastal retreats – the James Hardie portfolio of products, textures and ColorPlus Technology colors gives you the ability to create a home that embodies your sense of style. VS WOOD:

Wood makes a great first impression. But what you really want is a great first impression that lasts. While wood and engineered wood siding starts out looking good, it doesn’t stay that way. James Hardie siding products with ColorPlus Technology combine the beauty and character of wood with the durability and low maintenance of fiber cement.

VS VINYL: Vinyl siding does not provide the rich, wood grain finish that gives a home lasting curb appeal. Plus, vinyl siding has a tendency to buckle or sag with stress and time, accelerating the deterioration of a home’s exterior charm.
