REPORT ON AVISHKAR 2K12

Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology has carved a niche for itself in imparting

value based technical education. AVISHKAR - Engineering Inventions is a paper presentation

competition held every year in VBIT and is exclusively for the 1st years. The main objective is to

bring the first year students out of the shell and provide them with a firsthand experience in

facing the competition outside. VBIT is the only college in the whole of Asia-Pacific (R10)

region, under IEEE to host this event exclusively for the first years. The goal is to provide a platform to exhibit a paper presentation which showcases their updates with technology along

with their presentation and communication skills. This is not only a platform to prove one’s talent

but it also a path to explore hidden talents and also rectify drawbacks in one’s self. AVISHKAR

realizes this aspect keenly and hence focuses only on offering the freshers a unique opportunity

to shed their inhibitions and put forward their talents and interests in front of a known

audience. It helps them enhance their presentation skills, communication skills and managerial

skills. That way they’re encouraged to get rid of their hidden stage-fear and come out as confident

individuals.

IEEE-VBIT SB is the first one to introduce such an activity especially for the first year undergraduates so as to motivate, encourage and inspire them to be confident and bold professionals.

The uniqueness of this activity has thereby won laurels that widely support and appreciate the cause and

purpose of the activity.

IEEE-VBIT SB has initiated the communication society student chapter at the VBIT

campus, with nearly 31 student members and 2 professional members. The main motto behind

establishing the Communication Society chapter at VBIT is to provide technological

development among the Electronics & Communications students and help the students develop

good technical skills related to the field of communication. New Innovative ideas are being

implemented to make students and professionals to get better benefits. Numerous technical

events have been planned for the academic year which facilitate the all round development of a

VBIT, which was done by the esteemed chief guests of the event, Dr. K. M. M. RAO. The

M. M. Rao, Adjunct faculty of BITS-Pilani Hyd and a senior member of IEEE, IETE and ETE , on the

International Women’s Day Celebrations

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The Women in Engineering group of Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology has

conducted a spectacular event as part of the IEEE-VBIT Student Branch activities

celebrating the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2011. The celebrations

comprised of numerous activities and sessions that was mostly interactive and informative and

was conducted only for the girl students and lady faculty of the college.

The forenoon session was highly effective and informative as it mainly dealt with talks on

health care and development of women in every field.



Dr. Gopa Dutta, the head for the Research and Development cell of VBIT delivered an

intriguing speech about the importance of present day women and the potential enemies

affecting them.

Later, an informative session was conducted by Dr. Rohini Reganti, an Oncologist at the

Burlington medical centre in which she discussed the effects of cancer and their types. It was

a highly interactive session wherein all the girl students openly expressed and clarified their

doubts about personal health care and preventive measures for various other health issues.



After a short tea break following that session, another interactive session discussing “The

importance of women in technology” was given by Dr.M.Sushama, head of the department of

EEE at JNTU - Hyderabad was conducted.

Then a short seminar on “Technological advancement of women in today’s world” was given

by Dr. Vijaya Latha, the Treasurer of WIE group of Hyderabad was conducted. IEEE-VBIT SB, WIE Group Page 4

International Women’s Day Celebrations Later a highly effective session on “Cervical Cancer” was conducted in which

M.Sindhoora of III BTech (CSE) has delivered a presentation projecting the harsh realities of the

effects of cervical cancer and also the preventive measures for that.

In the afternoon session, technical and entertaining contests were conducted for the students and

faculty separately. For the students, activities such as Quiz, Memory test, Slogan Writing and

Tongue Twister’s round were conducted and exciting prizes were awarded to the

winners. And for the faculty, activities such as Quiz and Debate were conducted on

interesting topics and exciting prizes were awarded for the same.



Giving a twist to a normal one day seminar session, this event turned out as one of the most

informative cum fun filling event. A wholesome pack of vibrant students and inspiring

lecturers is indeed a mark of celebration.

explained and elaborates on how different kind of nano particles has its own utility and

significance in their respective applications.

Dr. S.V. Manaroma spoke on the synthesis of Nano Particles and how nano particles has a bright

future. She also emphasized on the applications of nano technology in various fields and all the

future prospects of the Nano industry.

Quantum Physics- Nano Regime by Dr. L. Srinivasa Rao (Retd. Professor, Dept. of Physics, Osmania University, Coordinator A.S. Rao council Hyderabad (RATAN TATA TRUST for imparting training to science teachers)

Dr. L Srinivasa rao gave us an insight on quantum mechanics and how there is an analogy

between quantum mechanism similar when compared to that of the Mechanics of nano particles.

Inauguration of PES Student Chapter at IEEE VBIT-SB Second Lecture was on "Smart Grid Technologies” by M.M.Bhaskar (Lead analyst at

Mahindra Satyam and a Nominated member of IEEE Hyd section. The lecture was

completely student oriented and gave a clear picture of what the smart grid is all about and its

trend of working, scope of research on Smart grid in industries and MNC's, Areas where

rapid growth and development of this technology are taking place and is utility in our day to

day life.

The Program was ended with distribution of momentous to the dignitaries followed by Vote of

thanks and live feed back sessions successively. With such immense response from students

belonging to other colleges (Apart from VBIT ) the students interest of students into core

industries, zeal to learn and their interest to explore the benefits out of IEEE Membership

and its societies can be rated with the top grades. Our primary aim of energy harvesting was

passed into the students as a message with our self explanatory stalls arranged by our students on

usage of hydro energy, comparison charts on usage of CFL, Incandescent, LED bulb Energy and

Cost graphs, our windmill project.

Inauguration of IEEE Computer Society @ VBIT SB

Computer Society @ IEEE - VBIT SB

With nearly 20 student members and 2 professional members, IEEE-VBIT SB has initiated

the computer society student chapter at the VBIT campus. The main motto behind

establishing the Computer Society chapter at VBIT is to make Computer Science and

Information technology students make computing as their profession and also to foster

technological knowledge and help the students develop good technical skills related to the

computing field. New Innovative ideas are being implemented to make students and

professionals to get a fruitful result. Numerous technical events have been planned for the

academic year which facilitate the all round development of a student in various fields.

The event started with the inauguration of the Computer Society student chapter at

VBIT, which was done by the esteemed chief guests of the event, Mr. Aditya Rao

and Mr. Rahul Dronamraju. The students of 2nd and 3rd B.Tech, CSE and IT,

participated in this event.



The first session of the day comprised of an informative session with a guest

lecture by Mr. Aditya Rao, chairman of IEEE-Computer Society Chapter,

Hyderabad section, on the topic “The contemporary Computing disciplines a

graduate in computing must know”. Mr. Aditya Rao has been with Oracle for over

8 years and is currently working as a development manager. This session was highly

applauded as it could impress and make an effect over most students present at the

event.

Mr. Aditya Rao enlightened the students about what basically each of the fields of

Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology etc. deal

with and the significance of each of the fields of study in the advancing

The second session of the day included another enlightening session by Mr.

Rahul Dronamraju, Market Research Analyst and Project Coordinator at

Tachyon Communications Inc., an IT consulting firm specializing in Strategic

Management Consulting and Program & Project Management, on the topic “An

introduction to project management”.



The students were highly elucidated by this session as it could relate very much

with their interests. Also, Mr. Rahul also explained the concepts of Project

Management effectively by using the day to day life examples, which helped the

students to understand the crucial concepts in a better way.

The event was a grand one and we further look forward to conduct quality

events and develop technical interests among the students under the IEEE

REPORT ON “SCIENCE- EXHIBITS AT VBIT”

The National Science Day is celebrated to honor Nobel Laureate Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata

Raman for his invention of the Raman Effect through his experiments on the scattering of light.

We the students of power and energy society (PES) under IEEE VBIT-SB organized science-

exhibits at Student activity centre in our college premises (VBIT) on the fond memory of Sir

C.V.Raman on national science day i.e.,28th

February 2011. This included about 6 small scale

projects with and enthusiastic participation from students of 15 no’s from electrical and

electronic engineering branch. Such interactive events improvise students both participants and

viewers to know new technologies and knowledge sharing at very large scale.

PES members towards faculty of EEE, H&S dept. got the attention of few faculty students who

visited our exhibits and dropped their valuable suggestions and feedback to us which helps us

improve and present our skills at a better level. We are looking forward for better participation and

response in technical aspects under PES IEEE VBIT-SB.

STAR PROGRAM REPORT

The IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program was developed to address the

growing concern that, at a young age, girls are discouraged from careers in mathematics, science, and

engineering.

This educational outreach program promotes involvement of IEEE members with local junior high and high

schools in order to create a positive image of engineering careers. Through a one-to-one interaction between

society volunteers and a Student-Teacher Team, STAR's aim is to create a technical support network for teachers

and a mentoring program for students.

The “women in engineering” STAR PROGRAM was organized in a successful manner on 20th July, 2011. It was the first session of the STAR program, in which a presentation was given to create awareness among the students of 8th

to 10th standard students of Government High School, Jameelapet. We had a splendid response for this event.

WIE STAR PROGRAM Firstly, M.Sindhoora, WIE Representative, VBIT, had started the session by telling the importance of selecting a

course after 10th standard.

This was continued by S.Devi Priyanka, WIE Secretary, VBIT. She gave information regarding MPC, BiPC and

MBiPC. She also told about the future opportunities regarding these groups and also about the scholarship,

entrance examinations after 12th standard.

WIE STAR PROGRAM It was followed by B.Harika, WIE member, who discussed about CEC, HEC and MEC. She gave a detailed view

about these groups. She also gave a view on bank and civil services, in which many students were interested.

Later, it was continued by D.Pallavi, WIE Vice-Chairperson, VBIT, who spoke about multimedia and polytechnic. She described about how students can make use of their creativity. Many students were interested in opting multimedia, after listening to this session.

The session was concluded by M.Sindhoora who spoke about the defense services and the

scholarships provided for various courses. She gave a clear view about the scholarships like N D A (National

Scholarship Academy).

At the end, one could see the thrill and satisfaction of students who were happy to clear their doubts. They expressed their ambitions and promised to work hard to fulfill their dreams.

Event Details: The program started with a brief talk on the motto of conducting Group discussions as a weekly

activity, rules of group discussion and about smart grid (Topic of Discussion) by the Organizing

team.
