SUMMARY* i l

An exploration program consisting of diamond drilling and prospecting was completed on the Wawa Creek Property of Mr. C. Clement. This property is centred approximately five (5) kilometres south of Wawa, Ontario in the Sault Ste. Marie Mining Division.

The work program was designed to assist in an overall evaluation of the gold potential of the property and to intersect a gold bearing zone encountered in a 1991 drill hole (M-91-1). One drill hole (MC-93-4) located above the 1991 mineralization encountered a 42.3 foot wide zone of quartz veining in a sheared and altered iron formation. The rock that hosted the gold in the 1991 hole does not appear to have been intersected.

The mineralized zone must either be disrupted by complex faulting or it is a deep rooted system that does not occur above the original intersection in hole M-91-1. A diamond drilling program designed to repeat and test below the original intersection is recommended.

Respectfully submitted.

INTRODUCTION

The Lendrum property has been explored with partial assistance from three earlier OPAP grants. The first of these, in 1990, involved prospecting and extensive stripping of an area from which numerous high gold values were reported in a 1909 report. The best assay value located was a 0.13 oz/ton. Au. ITI 1991, fresh samples were blasted from what was assumed to be the main zone. The highest value returned was a 21O ppb, Au. Following this, three short drill holes were completed under this zone in an effort to obtain a more representative sample. One of these. Hole M-91-1, encountered two intersections of gold bearing silicified rock. One of these assayed 0.24 oz/ton. Au across 2.0 feet (from 155.0' to 157.0') with several sights of visible gold and the other 1.10 oz/ton, Au across 1.0 feet (201.4' to 202.4'). The hole ended at 203.0 feet. In 1993, a detailed grid was established, geological mapping completed and an extensive area up dip from the drill intersection was stripped.

The mineralization is considered most interesting because of a pervasive sulphide and associated chloritic, sericitic and siliceous alteration in the lower part of hole M-91-1. This alteration may be related to a felsic intrusive body that is projected from large scale geological mapping (Fig 2 - Massey, 1983) to Ile. .beneath- the bottom of this hole.

The 1993 drill program was designed to intersect the M-91-1 , gold zone and continue into a feldspar porphyry body, assumed from

surface geological mapping to represent the footwall rocks in this area. This report presents the results of that work program.

PROPERTY, LOCATION 6 ACCESS

The Lendrum Township property of Mr. C. Clement originally consisted of four (4) contiguous unpatented mining claims. They are shown on M.N.D.M. Claim Index Map G.2785, and are numbered as follows:

SSM 1095590 SSM 1095592 SSM 1134871 SSM 1135464

Twelve additional claims, located on the western side of the original block, were acquired by staking in late 1993.

The property is centred at Latitude 47 0 56' 40" and Longitude 84 0 48' 00", and is on NTS Sheet 41-N-15 (Michipicoten Harbour). They are located in the southeast corner of Lendrum Township, approximately five (5) kilometres south of the town of Wawa/ Ontario. Highway 17 passes through the centre of the claim block.

Relief on the property is quite extreme involving an elevation difference of approximately 75 metres (250 feet). Vertical cliffs of from 5 to 30 metres are common.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

Regionally, the property is located on the western flank of a high level felsic intrusive complex known as the Jubilee Stock. The Jubilee Stock is situated near the southwest end of the Archean aged Michipicoten Greenstone Belt. This belt is made up of mafic to felsic metavolcanic sequences, clastic and chemical metasedimentary rocks, mafic to felsic intrusive bodies and a crosscutting system of diabase and lamprophyre dykes.

The Lendrum Township claim group is underlain by all of the above rocks, but is dominated by a sequence of mafic to felsic volcanic rocks, minor sulphide iron formation, mafic to intermediate intrusive rocks and a small felsic intrusive body.

Gold mineralization is known to exist within the Michipicoten Greenstone Belt in various geological settings. These include 1) quartz and quartz-carbonate veins; 2) silicified zones and quartz veins associated .with shear zones; and 3) sulphide ironstone. Within the belt, it is generally accepted that there is a spatial relationship between known gold occurrences and felsic intrusive stocks (Goodwin, 1966; Studemeister, 1985). In fact, most of the many known gold occurrences in the immediate Wawa area are proximal to the Jubilee Intrusive Complex.

WORK PROGRAM

The 1993 work program included the drilling of two diamond drill holes and a reconnaissance "beep Mat " survey over the original four claim block.

DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

DIAMOND DRILLING

The diamond drilling program involved two holes for a combined footage of 388 feet. The hole locations are shown on Map l (back pocket). The drill logs are located in the appendix. A cross section of Hole MC-93-4 is located in the back pocket. Assay results for the samples taken are in the appendix.

Hole MC-93-4 was collared in front of and at a higher elevation than the original gold discovery hole (M-91-1) and drilled at a steeper angle (-60 0 ). It was designed to intersect the M-91-1 gold zone. Although Hole MC-93-4 passed within 30 feet of the bottom of Hole M-91-1, there was very little similarity between the two holes. The strongly altered qua'rtz stringer zone which hosted the gold in M-91-1 was not recognized in Hole MC-93-4. Forty five (45) samples from the hole contained only trace amounts of gold.

Page 8: REPORT OH A DRILLING AND PROSPECTING€¦ · 1991 hole does not appear to have been intersected. The mineralized zone must either be disrupted by complex faulting or it is a deep

cA cross-section (Back Pocket) shows a possible interpretation

of the attitude of the lithologic* encountered in both Holwa M-91-1 and MC-93-4. The very steep dip of the iron formation in the holes is a reflection of the angle at which the hole cut the shallower dipping units. The holes are not oriented at right angles to the structures. There is a slim possibility that the brecciated zone from 55.5' to 71.0' represents an upward projection of the upper mineralized zone in Hole M-91-1. No significant mineralization was observed in this section, but sampling should be considered.

Hole MC-93-5 was drilled to test a geophysical target delineated near the south boundary of the property prior to construction of a powerline in this area. The feature is coincident with the strike projection of iron formation along the highway approximately 100 metres towards the west. The hole was abandoned in heavy overburden at a depth of 44 feet.

BEEP MAT PROSPECTING

Five days were spent prospecting by the owner using the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines "Beep Mat", a small geophysical "marvel" designed to locate sulphide boulders and outcrop under shallow overburden. Systematic and intuitive traverses were

, K conducted over and around the hill from which old reports (Guest, 1909) indicated the presence of high grade gold mineralization.

- ' This is extremely rugged terrain, and it was hoped that the , reported gold mineralization may. have been overlooked. Rough

sketches showing the traverses and five (5) sample locations are in the appendix, along with assay results. Although sulphides and quartz were located, only background gold values were detected.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMHENDATIORS

A drill hole designed to verify and further explore a gold bearing zone in a 1991 drill hole (M-91-1) failed to intersect the zone. It is assumed that the location of the new hole (MC-93-1) was either too far above the discovery horizon or that the target area has been disturbed by local faulting. Hole MC-93-1 intersected a broad zone of quartz flooded, deformed and altered (sulphide, chlorite, carbonate, tourmaline) iron formation and related metasedimentary rocks cut by feldspar porphyry and lamprophyre dykes. The zone has many of the characteristic features associated with other gold occurrences in the area (quartz, sulphides, blue grey alteration mineral, tourmaline and a garlic odour) yet contained only trace amounts of gold.

It is recommended that some of the samples be re-assayed to eliminate the possibility of laboratory error,' and that other

/ ^ sections of the hole be sampled. Two additional holes are strongly recommended to test this target. The first should be collared in the same location as Hole M-91-1, drilled at -45 0 towards the north and effectively re-drill the original intersection. It should be

Page 9: REPORT OH A DRILLING AND PROSPECTING€¦ · 1991 hole does not appear to have been intersected. The mineralized zone must either be disrupted by complex faulting or it is a deep

extended an additional 150 feet into the feldspar porphyry body that occupies the footwall. The second hole should be drilled from the same location at -60 0 to determine if the M-91-1 intersection represents the top of a major gold system, as is suggested by alteration patterns. These two holes would require a footage of approximately 700 feet and cost an estimated 515,000 to complete. Should they be successful, an extensive drill program will be required.

A grass-roots program involving linecutting, prospecting, rock sampling and geological mapping is recommended on the twelve recently acquired adjacent claims.
