2 CHAMBER CONNECTION | JUNE 2015

Thanks to all of you who attended our 34th Annual Recognition Lunch! First and foremost, I want to congratulate all of our finalists and winners for their accomplishments during the past year. It was a pleasure to honor the Ascuaga Family as the 50th recipient of the Raymond I. Smith Award. It was a truly wonderful event. We are halfway through this year, so I want to remind you to be sure that you are thinking about The Chamber and how we can help you! We can help by saving money with Office Depot or Enterprise Rent-A-Car or by assisting to expand your network through our Member2Member Discount program or from attending one of our many events. Remember, your employees are members too, which means they are able to use

our resources, as well. When you need assistance, CHOOSE CHAMBER, we are here to here to help! The 2015 legislative session is about to end and so I invite you to attend our Legislative Recap Lunch on June 18th to hear our experts discuss how the outcomes will affect you and your business. You will be able to interact and ask questions of the panel. I look forward to seeing you there. Please visit our website to see why 2,000 businesses CHOOSE CHAMBER!

Greater Nevada Grows its Business Banking Offerings

Over the past several years, Greater Nevada Credit Union has grown its Business Services division to offer new solutions for businesses in our region. Awareness of these offerings has grown primarily through word-of-mouth referrals, as businesses owners and operators experience the unique benefits of being a business member and owner of Greater Nevada Credit Union. Since not everyone thinks about a credit union when it comes to business banking, here are five facts about Greater Nevada Business Services that may surprise you: 1. Greater Nevada Credit Union and its Business Services are open to everyone living and working in Nevada.2. Greater Nevada Business Services has grown to offer a full range of business deposit products and business banking solutions, including analyzed checking, merchant services, and cash management.3. Greater Nevada has also expanded its variety of business loans, such as commercial real estate, equipment, Small Business Administration (SBA), USDA rural development, and agricultural loans, as well as lines of credit.

4. Because Greater Nevada is member owned, earnings are returned to members through competitively priced products and services.5. Greater Nevada has a team of Business Services Specialists, plus 11 full service branches throughout northern Nevada, with four of them in the Washoe County area. In fact, the newest branch in Golden Valley opened this April. In addition, Greater Nevada offers employee benefits such as health savings accounts (HSAs), financial planning, programs to build or rebuild credit, and onsite presentations to help your employees improve their financial well being. If you’re looking for a new business banking solution, or want to learn more about how Greater Nevada can help your business, call (775) 882-2060 or visit gncu.org.

The Chamber proudly announces their 22nd year honoring over 325 middle school students from 4 Sparks middle schools and 8 Reno middle schools during their B.E.S.T. Kids program. This year’s students were chosen from Clayton, Dilworth, Mendive, O’Brien, Swope, Shaw, Sparks, Vaughn, Cold Springs, Depoali, Traner and Billinghurst Middle Schools. The B.E.S.T (Business Education Skills Training) Kids program sought students who exhibited traits that job seekers look for and make them invaluable as they continue their education and enter the work force. Students are selected based on attitude and behavior, not

popularity, athletic talent or academic ability. The nominations reflected a broad base of students including those that volunteer, are helpful and are overcoming odds. The goal of the program is to encourage traits that will make these students invaluable to their employers and their communities. Through generous donations, nominees were awarded with certificates, raffle prizes and gifts from local area businesses at the B.E.S.T. Kids Reception and Barbeque on April 22nd. The Barbeque dinner, was provided by Terrible’s Rail City Casino, and was attended by the students and their parents.

Thank you to the following Chamber Members for supporting the
