REMOVAL Special Tools: 1. Open hood. 2. Disconnect the battery cables (1). 3. Remove the battery hold down bolt (3) and remove the battery (2). 4. Remove the clips holding harness and ground cable to the battery tray.

REMOVAL Special Tools:

5. Remove the battery tray. 6. Remove the vacuum pump See: Brakes and Traction Control\Power Brake Assist\Vacuum

Pump\Service and Repair\Removal if equipped.

7. Remove the overflow bottle (1).

8. Disconnect oil cooler lines from transaxle using Disconnect Tool.

9. Remove the bolts (2) holding the heater lines. 10. Unplug the input speed sensor (3).

11. Disconnect gearshift cable (1) from transaxle manual valve lever (2). 12. Disconnect gearshift cable from the bracket.

13. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) at the crankshaft position sensor (3). 14. Remove hold down bolt (1) at the crankshaft position sensor (3). 15. Remove the crankshaft position sensor (1).

16. Disconnect the solenoid pack connector at the transmission.

17. Support the transaxle with a floor jack. 18. Remove the bolts (1) at the left transmission mount (2).

19. Remove the transaxle upper bellhousing-to-block bolts (3).

27. Support the engine and transmission with a jacks. 28. Remove the crossmember through bolt (1)

29. Remove the transmission crossmember bolts (1). 30. Remove the transmission crossmember (4).

31. Lower the engine and transmission to gain access to the left transmission mount bracket bolts. 32. Remove the bolts (1) holding left transmission mount (2) to the transmission (3). 33. Remove the left transmission mount (2).

NOTE: The three bolts on the left side of the front bracket hold the starter in place, ensure starter is supported.

34. Remove the front mount bracket bolts (1). 35. Remove the heater line bracket bolt (3).

NOTE: The three bolts on the left side of the front bracket hold the starter in place, ensure starter is supported.

36. Remove the bolt (3) at transmission front mount bracket to engine. 37. Remove the front mount bracket (2).

38. On 3.6L engines remove bolts (3) to exhaust bracket. 39. Remove the exhaust cross under pipe (if equipped) See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Exhaust

System\Exhaust Pipe\Service and Repair\Exhaust Crossunder Pipe - Removal. 40. Remove bolts (2) to stand off bracket (4). 41. Remove bracket (4).

42. Remove torque converter dust shield bolt (3). 43. Remove torque converter dust shield (2).

44. Remove the torque converter-to-driveplate bolts (1). Upon removing bolts, a tight-tolerance (slotted) bolt will be encountered. Mark this location (driveplate and converter) with paint for assembly reference.

NOTE: The bolts on each side of the inspection opening were removed with the exhaust bracket.

45. Remove the six transaxle-to-engine lower bolts. 46. Lower transaxle from engine compartment.

47. Remove the torque converter-to-drive plate bolts (1). Upon removing bolts, a tight-tolerance (slotted) bolt will be encountered. Mark this location (drive plate and converter) with paint for assembly reference.

48. Remove the two remaining lower bellhousing bolts. 49. Lower transaxle from engine compartment.
