Incursion: Silly Scientist

Lalor Primary School will be having a whole school incursion during

Science Week - Tuesday the 16th of August between

2:15 – 3:15PM. Students will NOT be charged to attend.

“The Silly Scientist Show” is an interactive performance, which aims to promote positive attitudes to participating in Science related activities. The aim of the show is to promote and highlight the ‘everyday’ accessibility of Science in students’ everyday lives. Students will view a performance designed to entertain students with comedy and singing, whilst highlighting many aspects of Science. With a unique blend of Science, The Arts, and a few magic tricks and illusions thrown in, “The Silly Scientist Show” is an engaging and educational experience for our students. During the performance, presenters demonstrate fun and exciting Science activities from the Science Understanding Strands of the F-10 Australian Curriculum Science in-cluding; Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth & Space Sciences and Physical Sciences. The “The Silly Scientist Show” also aims to foster in children an excitement for learning about Science. Each skit, song and Science experiment in “The Silly Scientist Show” is interactive. The students in the audience are included in and actively participate in each component of the show. As a result, engagement with the show is very high from each individual child. Throughout the show the presenters model an appropriate and inclusive attitude to Sci-ence in order to break down traditional stereotypes and attitudes to Science. (i.e. Sci-ence is boring, or Science is for “nerds” and also addresses gender bias).

Our senior school ‘Log Cabin Camp’ was an amazing experience for both students and staff! It

was a jam-packed 3-day program with fun filled activities including the giant swing, flying fox,

milk crate stacking, leap of faith, night hiking and more. All of these activities were based on

teambuilding skills and cooperation. On the way back home, students also attended Donegan’s

Farm where they enjoyed feeding farm animals.

Here’s what the students had to say:

“The activities were awesome and fun, the food was delicious and so much to eat that you couldn’t even starve.”

Madhur.

“The friendly staff members were amazing at helping us achieving our goals during the activities.” Jasmine B.

“The food was so fabulous, there was so much for us to eat!” Max S.

I would like to thank Miss Thorpe, Mr Barakat, Miss Ralph, Mr E Tuncer, Mr D Tuncer and Mr Robinson for all of their

efforts during this camp. A team effort is what always works best!

I would also like to thank Mrs Le Phan for planning and delivering a great program with the 5/6 students back at

school. They sure had a great time engaged with hands on learning activities.

Mrs Osmanovska

Grade 1/2 Science Incursion We were Super Scientists during our Science Incursion last week. We learnt about physical and chemical changes. We created a rainbow from mixing different chemicals together and made some colourful 'T-Rex Toothpaste'. It sure was an amazing day!
