There are many applications where solder joints areneeded but printing is not possible, and solder wire isneither practical nor efficient. SolderPlus® dispensepaste can provide the solution.

The requirements for a good dispense paste are verydifferent from those for print paste. Print pastes are formulated for application on printedcircuit boards through stencils. As cost pressuresincrease, manufacturers need easy-to-print, robustpastes with good print definition, consistent printquality and wide process windows. Nordson EFD’sPrintPlus® solder pastes provide dependable batch-to-batch consistency that can help reducemanufacturing costs by increasing first-pass yieldsand reducing defects, rework and rejects.

PrintPlus® solder pastes have excellent reflowcharacteristics, and will produce bright, smooth andshiny fillets. They are available in a wide range oflead-free and leaded alloys and particle sizes, as wellas many flux formulations, including no clean, RMAand water soluble with halogen-/halide-free options,and offer:

Unlike liquid fluxes, Nordson EFD’s tacky FluxPlus™

paste can be applied exactly where it is needed,and will remain in position without contaminatingnearby areas.

FluxPlus™ is available in a dispense version forrepairs, and a stencil print version that is widelyused for reballing BGAs, where its red color facilitatesconfirmation that flux was applied correctly. FluxPlus™

is compatible with both lead-free and leaded solders,and is RoHS-compliant.

Nordson EFD offers a variety of precision dispensingequipment for producing accurate repeatable depositsof solder paste and flux paste. Whether you require anair-powered dispenser, a dispense valve or a tabletopautomation system, Nordson EFD has a completedispensing solution to improve your application.

Air-powered DispensersNordson EFD air-powered dispensing systems eliminatevariability in benchtop dispensing processes by usingcontrolled air pressure and microprocessor-basedtimers – instead of operator guesswork – to regulatethe amount of solder or flux applied to each part.

Auger ValvesBy integrating screw feed technology with precisecontrol of dispense time, syringe pressure and augerspeed, the Nordson EFD 794 Series auger valvedispenses accurate, repeatable amounts of solderpaste and other particle-filled materials.

The valve can be supplied with solder paste fromprefilled syringe barrels or cartridges, and is availablewith two motor types. Brush motors are best for linesand deposit cycle rates under 60-90 shots per minute.Brushless motors are used for high speed, high cyclerate microdot applications.

Dispensing RobotsWith specialized PC dispensing software and CADdownload capabilities, Nordson EFD robot systemsare easy to program and quick to set up. True three-and four-dimensional motion control allows easyprogramming of dots, stripes and other depositconfigurations on different planes.

Jet Valves for FluxNordson EFD PICO™ jet valves use piezoelectrictechnology to apply paste flux in amounts as small as2 nl, at continuous speeds up to 150 cycles per second.

Because the valve never touches the substrate, thesenon-contact systems are ideal for applying flux touneven surfaces or hard-to-access areas, whileeliminating the need for precise height positioning andtime-consuming Z-axis movement.

Temperature Control UnitWith many materials, temperature changes as smallas 1ºC can make or break a process.

The ProcessMate™ 6500 temperature control uniteliminates this problem by maintaining thetemperature of the material within +/- 0.1ºC over a range of 10ºC to 40ºC.

Designed for use with air-powered dispense valvesand benchtop dispensers, the ProcessMate 6500offers an economical alternative to the large andcostly environmental control systems typically usedwith room and machine enclosures.
