ESS is used widely in theelectronic assembly industry.With today’s complex electronicdevices, the possibility exists fora single circuit board to containthousands of latent defects. Inhigh volume assembly operations,there are millions of opportunitiesfor defects to enter your productsin a single day. ESS helps you findproduct failures before they reachthe customer.
Mechanical Systems
ESS is sometimes used onmechanical systems. Whenstructural weaknesses are aconcern, ESS provides fasttemperature change rates thataccelerate the fatigue caused byexpansion and contraction. ESScan also be a valuable tool infinding problems where closetolerances are affected byexpansion and contraction. Manyproducts such as disk drives, audioplayers, video players, printers,etc., contain both electronic andmechanical weakness that canresult in product failure.
Qualification Testing
ESS chambers can be used fordesign and manufacturing qualifi-cation testing. With a standardtemperature range of +1770C to-730C (+3500F to -1000F), properproduct operation can be verifiedover the specified operating,storage, and transportation limitsof the product design. Also,process weaknesses can be foundquicker with faster temperaturechange rates.

Rear Access Area
Many ESS processes involvepower-up and testing of theproducts while they are in thechamber. Thermotron ESSchambers are designed with alockable enclosed cabinet behindthe chamber workspace. Productinterconnect can be routedthrough connectors or cableaccess ports in the rear wall, andthen into the enclosed cabinet.
Safety Interlocks
Main power disconnect interlocksare provided on front, rear, andconsole doors to shut down theequipment upon unauthorizedentry. In addition, EmergencyPower Off (EPO) palm buttonswitches are provided on the frontand rear of the chamber system.
Attached Console
To increase operational flexibility,the instrument console canaccommodate product powersupplies and test equipment.By attaching the console to thechamber, you create an open areabetween the console and the rearaccess area. Using this spaceto route cabling between thechamber and the console providesa safer, more reliable, andaesthetically acceptable meansof distributing interconnect.
HFC Refrigerants
Thermotron’s refrigerationsystems do not contain any ozonedepleting refrigerants that arescheduled for discontinuation. NoCFC or HCFC refrigerants are used.
