ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute
(IVRI), Regional Station, Palampur welcomes you to
participate in the Workshop cum Brain storming session
on
during at Indian
Veterinary Research Institute, Regional Station, Palampur,
Himachal Pradesh. Celebration of the occasion also
coincides with Quasquicentennial Retro Revival 2014-
15, completing the 125 years of the foundation of the
Institute. The objective of the programme is to provide an
appropriate forum for the research scientists, academia,
veterinarians and farmers active in the field of animal
production and health to introspect the research carried out
till now and also to interact and exchange views regarding
the current research areas, innovations and advances in the
field and also to develop practical approaches to address the
emerging issues and challenges in livestock production and
health in the region. There is also need to develop
appropriate interlinkages between research institutions and
field veterinary professionals to identify research areas and
also for technology transfer.

(ICAR-IVRI) is the country's premier research

organization in the field of veterinary sciences. The
Institute - established as Imperial Bacteriological
Laboratory in 1889 in Pune - has a glorious history and
contributed immensely in improving animal health and
productivity and in turn, complementing the food and
nutritional security and protecting human health. The main
focus of IVRI has been developing life saving vaccines,
biological diagnostics, drugs and therapeutic interventions
for important animal and poultry diseases, diseases
monitoring and surveillance, quality control of immuno-
biologicals, nutritional and genetic improvement of
livestock, amelioration of stress, and safety and value
addition to the foods of animal origin. Apart from this, the
Institute is also actively involved in human resource
development in the field of veterinary and animal sciences;
dissemination of technology to the end users through
transfer of technology and extension activities, and
commercialization of technologies and valuable products
for the benefit of stakeholders.
The Regional Station of the IVRI had its inception
thon 26 January, 1959 with the objective of investigating the
animal feeding problems in the North West Himalayan
Region (NWHR) spread over H.P., J & K and the hilly areas
of Uttarakhand. In the late seventies the research mandate
was expanded to carry out detailed disease investigation
and diagnosis work as well. The approach to all research
problems continues to be interdisciplinary covering all

aspects in a very comprehensive manner from fundamental
to field applications in complete continuity. The regional
station has a regular program of field interactions with the
farmers for transfer of knowhow and feed back for
reappraisal of the research programs to make them up to
date and need based. The regional station has linkages and
liaison with State Agricultural University and Institute of
Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR) for
infrastructural facilities, research and academic activities.
