NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C) 11th August, 2019
We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au
Reflection: SERVANT OR MASTER ? What is the value of a person – any person . . . the worth of a human life . . . To quote Archbishop Oscar Romero: If we are worth anything, it is not because we have more money, or more talent, or more human qualities. Insofar as we are worth anything, it is because we are grafted into Christ’s life; his cross and resurrection. That is a person’s measure. The transcendence that the Church preaches is not alienation. It is not about aiming for heaven, thinking about eternal life, and forgetting about the problems on earth. It is entering into the reality of the poor – the neglected child, the sick, the homeless, the lonely aged. And from the very heart of misery, from this situation, to elevate it, to promote it, and say to them “You aren’t trash, you aren’t excluded. It is to say exactly the opposite “YOU ARE VALUABLE” Adapted from Break Open the Word.
Feast of the Assumption - Holy Day of Obligation
Thursday, 15th August—Masses: St. Peter’s—10am & 7:30pm
St. Paul’s—10am St. Catherine’s—10am
THIS WEEKEND IS CATHOLIC CARE APPEAL Catholic Care is the social service agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne and the Catholic Diocese of Sale. They provide family and relationship services, school and education support, pastoral services, relationship courses, refugee and asylum seeker support. All services are offered to the whole community, regardless of religious belief or background. The funds raised during this year’s appeal impact more than just an
individual- it will go towards helping break the cycle of entrenched poverty, family violence, isolation and broken relationships. Catholic Care programs are funded through a mix of government and philanthropic grants, income from fees and investments, support from Catholic Parishes & Schools and contributions from donors and supporters. Their vital work is to help people on the fringes of society break through the barriers to social inclusion and find hope for a brighter future.

A young student at TAFE, who spends some of her spare time volunteering at St Vinnies Bent-leigh, had left her bicycle outside the shop. When she came to collect her bike she found it badly dam-aged. THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL – Luke 12: 32-48
First Anniversary occurring at this time:
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit. Be like men waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks. Happy those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. I tell you solemnly, he will put on an apron, sit them down at table and wait on them. It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what hour the burglar would come, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house. You too must
stand ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’
