FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER 3rd May, 2015 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Reflection “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you are the world” - for me, this slightly clichéd phrase sums up the metaphor of the interconnectedness of the vine and the branches, of God, Jesus and humanity, in this week’s gospel. Despite our modern-day sense of individualism, the technology we rely on, and all our creature comforts, no one can grow alone; we are dependent on community to truly experience the fullness of life. And to thrive requires us to be interconnected with Christ – to be the branch to His vine. The alternative is to grow spindly, woody, and produce no fruit. And as any gardener will testify, to constantly produce prize-winning fruit requires pruning – letting go of old habits, of the things which served us last season, clearing out the ‘underbrush’, as painful and exposing as that can be. Pruning clears the way for new, stronger growth. Is now the time to take another look at your garden? Matt Lovegrove Prayer for People in Nepal Prayer for People in Nepal Prayer for People in Nepal Prayer for People in Nepal Loving God, we pray for those affected by the earthquake in Nepal - the people paralysed by fear; trapped under rubble; the rescue workers; the families who have lost or are still searching for loved ones - May they be strong and take heart in the Lord. God, whose love knows no bounds, fill all those who suffer with your comfort and peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. There will be a 2nd collection next week’s in all three communities for Caritas Nepal Appeal. We believe the death toll will rise to 10,000, with 10,000 wounded! This earthquake that occurred last weekend has devastated a wonderful gentle people. The Nepalese communities have always been an attractive place of beauty and hospitality to all its visitors, spectators and climbers. Our hearts and prayers go out to them and in a small way I ask you to respond to this special collection next week.

Loving God, we pray for those affected by the earthquake in Nepal - the people paralysed by fear; trapped under rubble; the rescue workers; the families who have lost or are still searching for loved ones - May they be strong and take heart in the Lord. GOSPEL: John 15: 1-8 All who live in me, and I in them, bear much fruit. Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that bears no fruit he cuts away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes to make it bear even more. You are pruned already, by means of the word that I have spoken to you. Make your home in me, as I make mine in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself, but must remain part of the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty; for cut off from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is like a branch that has been thrown away – he withers; these branches are collected and thrown on the fire, and they are burnt. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask what you will and you shall get it. It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit, and then you will be my disciples.’
