A resulted in the successful development

of a new robotic concept. Saudi Aramco

has just revealed the making of a subsea

shallow-water inspection Robot named

SWIM-R.

Due to its small size and powerful

multitasking capabilities, the Robotic

ROV SWIM-R is targeted to fill the

challenging gap requirement to operate

and inspect O&G pipelines in extreme-

shallow waters, while maintaining similar

capabilities of large deep water “Work-

Class” ROVs.

Present Industry's shallow water

inspections to date are still performed in

old fashioned manners by requiring

divers to complete sets of controlled risk

preparations and the support of

expensive highly sophisticated DSVs,

which normally suffer physical limitations

such as; 1- Vessel Draft, 2- Slow Dive

response time, and 3- Safe Mother-

zodiac travel distances in accordance to

the Diving IMCA Regulations.

The development of the new robotic

technology SWIM-R will play a big role in

enhancing Saudi Aramco's response

toward a cleaner Environment, while

drastically reducing the cost of corrosion

inspections, yet utilizing faster and safer

inspection means as advance protective

measures.

RECSO Supports Green Schools via BAPCO

apco hosted a team of Al Faisalyah School for Gifted from Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the

27th October 2016. Al Faisalyah is the first governmental school of its kind in KSA in accommodating B the talented students for the intermediate and secondary academic levels. The purpose is to share Bapco’s

unique experience in establishing the Green School Award. This annual scheme was launched in 2004 and

is being organized by Bapco in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to reward the environmental

initiatives and projects being implemented by the government secondary schools in Bahrain, which raise the

awareness and promote the environmental culture in the community.

Bapco Green School Award is one of the key CSR initiatives by Bapco. The Company is committed to the

protection of the environment as it believes it is an integral part of its business and culture. Bapco is

committed to achieving continual improvement in its environmental performance and ensuring full

compliance with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The visit program has included visits

to the winners of Green School Award 2016 in coordination with the Ministry of Education, namely Jidhafs

Secondary Technical Boys School and Sh. Isa Bin Ali Secondary Boys School which provided the opportunity

to introduce their innovative environmental projects and exchange of experiences.

The program has also provided a tour at Bapco’s environmental successful initiatives including Princess

Sabeeka Park (PSP) in Awali. The Park serves as a spectacular addition to the environmental endeavors

and houses various rare plant species, in addition to the Dar Al Nakheel, the house of renewable energy

which was inaugurated in 2010. Furthermore, the visitors of Al Faisalyah School toured the pilot project of

the solar installation which promotes clean energy in the Kingdom. In collaborative effort with NOGA, EWA

and the University of Bahrain (UoB), Bapco completed a major renewable energy project in 2014 involving

the installation of 21,000 solar panels at Bapco Refinery & Awali Township car parking areas and UoB for

the generation of total of 5 MW electricity. This serves as a model first of its scale in the Kingdom to utilize

renewable energy across Bahrain in support to the Government’s renewable energy strategies.

The visitors were accompanied by Abdulla Al Ansari, EHS Coordinator – BMP, and Maram Al Sabbagh,

Environmental Specialist - HSE Department. It is worth mentioning that Al Faisalyah School visit has been

organized between Bapco and Regional Clean Sea Organization (RECSO). Bapco is one of the founding

member companies of RECSO as a non-profit environmental regional organization and is based in Dubai,

UAE.
