History of the Green Ridge ProjectBeginning in 2005, Roanoke County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism went through an extensive Master Plan process to determine what the future of Roanoke County’s parks system should look like. These recom-mendations were compiled from citizen surveys, community meetings and general public hearings. The plan was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in September 2007. Among the top needs cited by citizens in this plan in-cluded places to exercise such as walking tracks, indoor fitness facilities and family leisure pools. Green Ridge was designed to meet the needs of our citizens while accomplishing the larger regional goals of attracting and retaining young professionals, attracting tourists, enhancing real estate values, and attracting new businesses. We know the finished product is something EVERYONE can be proud of!

Do you have corporate membership rates?Yes. Facts show corporations who bring fitness and health awareness to their employees have experienced a reduction in the number of sick days, increased productivity, improved morale and a reduction in absen-teeism.

Green Ridge Recreation Center is partnering with local businesses and corporations to help improve the quality of life for every-

one. How? By offering a corporate rate! When 20 or more of your employees sign up for a membership at our Center, all of your employees will be eligible for our lowest rate offered — the “County Resident” rate — regardless of where they reside. Plus, reaching this goal will get your company logo on our website to show your commitment to promot-ing a healthy lifestyle for your employees.

We would love the opportunity to share our Green Ridge mem-

bership information with you and your employees. For more details con-tact the Green Ridge membership sales of-fice at 387-6078 x 494, or email Denise Pully at [email protected].

Where can I purchase a membership? Now through late November you can purchase your membership by visiting our Administrative Offices on Kessler Mill Road in Salem or the Brambleton Center in the Cave Spring area (see page 21 for a map) or by contacting us by phone at (540) 387-6078 ext. 0. In late November we expect to move the sales office to Green Ridge Recreation Center. For updates, visit us online at www.RoanokeCountyParks.com.

Do I have to be a member to enjoy Green Ridge? No. There are several ways to enjoy the Center without membership. You can sign up for one of our many recreation programs held at Green Ridge and participate at the normal program rate. You can rent a room or host a birthday party at Green Ridge with affordable hourly rates and packages. Finally, you can pay a daily admission fee to use our pools or wellness area.

Do I have to be a Roanoke County resident to visit? No. While residents of Roanoke County receive a discount on daily ad-mission and membership, Green Ridge is open for everyone to enjoy regardless of residency.

When can I get my first look inside Green Ridge?Very soon! We expect to begin holding staff office hours in late November and will be providing tours of the new facility at that time. Plus, there will be several events for which the Center will be opened to the public. On November 17, Roanoke County’s Supervisors will host the annual “State of the County Address” from Green Ridge. Then mark your calendar for Roanoke County’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Monday, Decem-ber 7. This event has been moved to Green Ridge, where there will be snacks, music and guided tours inside (see page 22). Finally, join us for an open house on January 1 at the Center. Ring in the new year with free admission to Green Ridge, games, crafts, family activities and more (see page 22)!

How do I get to Green Ridge?Green Ridge Recreation Center is located at 7415 Wood Haven Rd. in North Roanoke County. From Interstate 581, take exit 2N (Peters Creek North). At the first stop light turn left onto Valleypointe Parkway. Follow the parkway 1/2 mile to its termination at Wood Haven Rd. You’ll see the center across the street.
