Reception Class News Friday 21st June 2019 In phonics the Sharks have learned the new sounds ou and ie, they have been practic- ing recognising reading and writing tricky words and have practised their reading skills with two texts from our reading scheme. The Flowerpots have learned two new sounds air and ure, have been practising their tricky words and writing short sentenc- es, In Maths this week the children have been problem solving to measure the play- ground using non-standard units! They had lots of excellent ideas as to how we could measure the playground and in the end decided they could count their steps and also lie down in a long line and count how many children fit along the length of the play- ground, In RE we started our new topic of Reconciliation, through discussing what it means to be a good friend and how we can fix friendships when we have problems, The children had achieved their target of 20 gems for good team work and so en- joyed a class treat of bike time, cheese straws and Lego cards– well done everyone! Suggested Activities to try at home: Encourage your child to measure the length of a room or their garden by counting their steps, Add something new to your child’s scrapbook and encourage them to write a short sentence to go with it 4th July @1.30pm School Summer Fayre– CAN YOU HELP? In phonics the Sharks have learned the new sounds ou and ie, they have been practic-ing recognising reading and writing tricky words and have practised their reading skills with two texts from our reading scheme.
