WE CELEBRATE YOUR GENEROSITY 2019 was a pivotal year for Rappahannock United Way. This past year, we changed our story to that of supporting ALICE, those in our community who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Throughout the year, we educated our community of our ALICE population needs and stories of our response in helping create a community where individuals and families are hopeful, resilient and self-sufficient. Additionally, we created our ALICE Assistance Fund. This fund gives our donors the opportunity to direct their gifts back to individuals who are working hard to make ends meet and are one major crisis from becoming financially unstable. Little did we know how relevant and timely this pivot would be for Rappahannock United Way.

When we began this campaign year, we had no idea that we would find our community in an unprecedented crisis; COVID-19 pandemic. Now, more than ever, the impact of this global, dual health and economic crisis has revealed the vulnerability of both ALICE families and our wider economy. ALICE remains the focus of our story. I am grateful for our community’s response. As a member of the Rappahannock United Way Leadership Giving Circle, your donation will have direct impact on the lives of those who live paycheck to paycheck. One life event away from falling into financial instability. Your commitment to BE THERE for our community ensures our ability to BE THERE for those in greatest need of not recovering from our current financial crisis. IMPACTWhen a lengthy crisis like COVID-19 hits our community, our hardest hit neighbors are those already struggling to make ends meet – we call them ALICE – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. They are working hard, many of them in hourly jobs with no benefits. Their financial stability can be severely impacted by one crisis – like a missed paycheck.

As we have done in the past, we will continue to provide financial assistance for those experiencing the ongoing effects of closures and missed work, particularly those in the ALICE population. Thank you for choosing to BE THERE with us as we work to create a community that is hopeful, resilient and self-sufficient. Together, we will fight against the impact of COVID-19 on ALICE and our community.
