Perceptions To evaluate how the residents feel about their community. To identify the groups perceptions on the general situation of the community- their health status, strengths, and limitations.

COMMUNITY COREHISTORICAL BACKGROUNDPajo is one of the the 32 barangays in the Philippine Municipality Alfonso in the province Cavite in Region IV-A CALABARZON, which is part of the Luzon group of islands.

DEMOGRAPHICS Barangay Pajo has a land area of 258.34 hectares. The total population of Barangay Pajo as of May 2010 is 1,885 (2010 Census of Population and Housing, National Statistics Office). Based on the 2015 Barangay Census, the total population of Barangay Pajo is 2,251 (1,137 males and 1,114 females). The total number of household is 494.

ETHNICITY Most of the people in Barangay Pajo speak Filipino (Tagalog). The group did not see any indigenous or any foreigners during the ocular survey.

VALUES AND BELIEFS There are a variety of religions in the barangay such as Roman Catholic, Christian, Iglesia ni Kristo, etc. There is a Catholic Church (San Isidro Labrador Church) along Montenegro Street, which is at the center of the barangay. There is also a Christian Church (Church of Christ) along Virata Street.

SUBSYSTEMSPHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT The air is generally clean. Most of the houses are made of concrete. Some houses are made of mixed materials (wood & concrete). Few shanties were seen, which are located in Kalye Onse and Saluysoy street. There is no housing congestion. There are minimal scraps of trash and animal feces on the roads. According to some residents, they dispose their trash by burying it with soil or by burning/pagsi-siga. The gutters are generally clean. Various types of plants and trees were seen. Most houses have their own backyard / farms. Stray dogs are common, especially in Kalye Onse. Some homes have a pet dog and/or cat. Some homes also have chickens, roosters and pigs in their backyard. Presence of flies is seen. According to the barangay officials and BHWs, this only occurs when a nearby barangay performs space fumigation. These flies would eventually disappear after 3 days.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES Health facilities available in the barangay includes the barangay health center located at Purok Uno of Barangay Pajo and various dental clinics found across the barangay The Rural Health Unit and Animal Bite Center and Poblete Memorial Hospital located at Poblacion Uno are also accessible to the residents Barangay officials and health workers stated that they will be implementing various health programs such as mass vaccinations and deworming scheduled at the last week of January Barangay midwife stated that only few people resort to traditional medicine (manghihilot)

ECONOMY Barangay Pajo is generally not depressed barangay. The community appears to be thriving. The community members are diligent in working in their own farms. The most popular products of the barangay are coffee and cacao (one town, one product or OTOP). However, they also produce other fruits and vegetables such as dragon fruit, lettuce, corn, papaya, coconuts, and the like. There are a few animal farms such as for pigs and chickens. A lot have chickens in their backyards as pets or as food. The community appears to be thriving. The community members are diligent in working in their own farms. TRANSPORTATION Observed means of transport includes mainly of tricycle, jeepney, and private vehicles such as motorcycles and cars. Residents also get around by walking.

SAFETY, PEACE AND ORDER The barangay police are led by Chief Tanod Celso J. Salamat along with: Deputy Edgardo Rubio Henry R. Rodis Martin Hermino Alberto Aure Francisco Ferolino Rey Banania Freddie Leyran The barangay police outpost is located at Gov. Remulla Street, Cor. Saluysoy Road. Curfew hours were observed from 10pm-6am. POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT Barangay Pajo is currently under the leadership of Hon. Dante L. Pel as the barangay captain. The following are the barangay officials: Kagawad for Agriculture: Zosino J. COMMUNICATION Majority of households have TVs and radios at home. Many citizens have cellphones. No news stands were noted upon ocular survey.EDUCATION Schools in Barangay Pajo: Pajo Elementary School Nazareth Institute of Alfonso Pajo Day Care Center Barangay profile on education (Jan. - Nov. 2015): No. of children enrolled in day care = 18 No. of children enrolled in kinder = 17 No. of children enrolled in high school = no data No. of out-of-school youth (OSY) = 26

RECREATION Several basketball courts/rings were found in the barangay. The children usually play in their yards and at the streets seldomly passed by vehicles. Some residents stated that the major form of recreation for the adults is chatting and gossiping with each other.

PERCEPTIONSTHE RESIDENTS PERCEPTIONS The residents generally feel safe in their community and there seems to be no prevalent crimes. Some of the residents verbalized: Tahimik lang dito sa barangay namin. Pag dating ng 6 or 7pm na sa kanya-kanya nang bahay. Masarap mabuhay dito sa Pajo. Basta masipag ka lang mabubuhay ka dito. Ang pinaka-problema lang na nakikita ko dito yung high blood at dyabetis. Yung pag simula rin ng PhilPEN ay malaking bagay din na kailangan masimulan. BHW

PERCEIVED PROBLEMS The top 3 perceived problems: Hypertension and Diabetes: Older adults and Senior citizens Perceived by the barangay officials and BHWs as the most common health problem of its residents Responses from the random survey of the residents Hypertension ranked second as the highest number of consultation according to case. Upper respiratory tract infection Greatly reflected in the barangay health center records, especially among children According to the BHWs, this problem is easily manageable. Garbage Disposal Perceived by the barangay officials and BHWs as a problem in the community. No garbage collector. According to some residents, they dispose their trash by burying it with soil or by burning/pagsi-siga. There are minimal scraps of trash and animal feces on the roads.
