Will the Trump Administration deliver on its promise to reduce taxes on the repatriation of foreign funds? Until there is clarity, Big Pharma won’t proceed with large M&A deals. It will be interesting to see how Biotech responds to the challenge of precision health and its quest to better predict, treat and prevent disease.

People are excited about new ways to drive value-based vs. volume-based drug development. Plus, I expect that we'll be seeing a lot more of the sun than last year.

I expect to hear a lot about digital biomarkers and big data and their impact on health and disease.

Large healthcare companies are aggressively transforming themselves through acquisitions, while some sectors are working through painful restructuring processes. The question of which business models and which sectors will succeed has never been greater.

When will we see Big Pharma begin a buying spree? Perhaps when we see a further decline in valuations; however, it might be awhile due to the amount of private funding activity. At some point, they will have to address the patent cliff.

JPM is always a fast-paced, news-heavy whirlwind – and this year promises more of the same. I’m looking forward to conversations about what to expect on drug pricing and corporate deals in year two of the Trump Administration.
