Ramblings Vol. 1, Issue 1
This is the inaugural issue of our quarterly newslet-ter. We are starting this newsletter as a way of keeping all and sundry abreast of our undertakings at DPS, Mathura Road.
All set to embark on a new journey with a fresh year, fresh academic session and a plethora of activ-ities and adventures, we hope to chart paths that help us ideate and create feasible portals of learning.

CYBER CRIME
Model UN Quiz Society participated in the Annual MUN Conference
hosted by the Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar, from 10-11 April,
2018. The following students were meritorious:
Abhik S Basu received the Best Delegate award in UN Office of High
Commissioner of Refugees (Historic).
Sauhard Jain received the Best Delegate award in Review Confer-
ence of VCLT.
Akshat Goel received a High Commendation award in UN General
Assembly.
Nikhil Kriplani and Madhav Walia received a High Commendation
award in Multilateral Investment Agency.
Ashmit Gupta received a Special Mention award in UN General As-
sembly.
Areeb Mansoor received a Special Mention award in UN Security
Council.
Tejas Karnani participated in International Atomic Energy Agency.
Aryan Dua held the post of Vice Chairperson in Review Conference of
VCLT.
Ridhima Gupta held the post of Goodwill Ambassador in UN Office of

EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO THE GANDHI SMRITI
Catering to the ideals of holistic learning, a visit to the Gandhi Smriti,
Tees January Marg, New Delhi, was organized for the Humanities stu-
dents of Class on 13 April, 2018. The young enthusiasts spent substan-
tial time gazing at the vivid pictures related to Mahatma Gandhi, his
life & discussed at length the freedom struggle led by him. The mys-
tery about Gandhi’s death was unfolded at the martyr’s column
through a story. Keeping the enthusiasm intact the group then pro-
ceeded to watch an informative documentary on Gandhi. It certain-
ly made them put their thinking caps on. The most splendid aspect of
the visit were the varied visuals, artefacts, crafts , fibre glass statues at
The Gandhi Museum that displayed Gandhi’s contribution to the Indi-
an freedom struggle in an innovative and mesmerizing manner. The

The English Debating Society of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road
organized the Inter Section English Debate for class XII on 18 April
2018. Seventeen debaters presented their views on the topics
Humanity has the Power to be its Own Saviour.
Internet – Gorgeous yet Deceitful.
Directionless Youth has no Role Models.
Social Media is a Web with No Escape.
The esteemed judges for the debate, Ms. Kunjan Kacker, Head of
English Department and Ms. Fauzia Umar, In charge Publications.
Ananya Rath of XII B was adjudged the Best Speaker followed by
Shreya Singh of XII C and Jayant Bakshi XII L and Rishika Vats XII G
following in the second and third positions, respectively. Motivation-
al Prizes were given to Sarthak Grover (XII D), Shoumyadeep Dhani
(XII C) and Muskan Sehgal (XII G). Mohd. Faizan Haider of XII A and
Vibhuti Roach of XII D were adjudged the Best Interjectors. The
event was an overall success with young debaters expressing their
views and opinions.

A Role Play Competition based on the theme of ‘Different Charac-
ters of Ramayana’ like Ravan, Kekai, Bharat, Hanuman etc. was or-
ganised on 19 April, 2018 for the Students of Class VI in the MPH.
The objective of this competition was not only to blend learning
with fun but also to develop confidence in the little ones. Enthusias-
tic participants from all sections adorned the stage with their col-
ourful dresses and mesmerizing monologues. Dr (Mrs.) Ashish Vash-
isth and Ms. Mamta Sharma from the Department of Hindi judged
the competition. The first position was bagged by Nitya of VI F fol-
lowed by Trishaan Chowdhry of VI E and Khanak of VI B. Aureya
Saraf of VI A was awarded the consolation prize along with Amlan
of VI H.
Fun filled activities and competitions enhance the learning process.
Keeping this in mind a Hindi Poem Recitation Competition was or-
ganized for Class VII on 25 April 2018 on the topics – Deshprem,
Pyari Dadi, Pradushan and Jal hi Jeevan Hai. Mrs. Rashmi Bhardwaj,
Ms. Mamta Sharma from the Department of Hindi judged the
event. Abhishek Mandal of Class VII A was adjudged the winner
with Ashish Sain of VII A bagging the second prize. Liba Razi of VII H
and Ishita Jain of VII B were the second runners up. Gaurangi of VII
B and Dhruva Vaid of VII F received the consolation prize.

HINDI LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES
The Earth Day celebrations were organised for middle and senior school clas-
ses. The events were scheduled from 20-21 April and 23 and 27 April 2018.
Classes VI-VIII were engaged in a Classroom Board Decoration Activity on
the topic ‘Less is more, Consume Less’, ‘Ozone Layer Needs Care’ and
‘Save Marine Life — Ocean is not a Trash Can’ , respectively. Students of
Classes IX & X were to prepare PowerPoint Presentations on topics like Ur-
ban sprawl and land management, Oil drilling- Threat to environment, Car-
ibbean coral reefs in danger and FCS (first Carbon Solution) sustainability.
The judgement was made by the respected Vice Principal (Academics)
Ms. Deeksha Khera, Vice Principal (Admin) Ms. AshaTuli and Middle School
Incharge Ms. Renu Rajvardhan on 20 April 2018.
On 21 April 2018, the school assembly for senior school was conducted with
the Slogan ‘Earth has music for those who hear’. The assembly was based
on theme Conserving Mother Earth. The choir added to the rhythm with a
beautiful song sending the message of preserving our planet for next gener-
ation. The dance group performed a musical show based on five elements
of earth to be preserved in nascent form.
The power point presentations prepared by students of Class IX were as-
sessed by Ms. Asha Tuli, Vice Principal (Administration) by visiting each class
where the presentation was run on the Smart Board, on 23 April 2018. The
students had put in lot of effort by amalgamation of video, images and in-
formation about the relevant topics in the presentation.
On 27 April 2018, students of Class X ran their PowerPoint Presentations in
their respective classes using the Smart Board. It was encouraging to see stu-
dents participate in the activities .The activities planned for Earth Day had
full school participation with the aim of making our students more aware of
their responsibilities was accomplished.

INTER-DPS ENVIRONMENT NATIONAL FEST
Our school participated in Inter-School Multimedia competition orga-
nized by Springdales School, Pusa Road on 26 April 2018 under its Af-
rica Week Celebrations. Twenty schools participated in the Multi-
media PowerPoint Presentation Competition and the topics provid-
ed were related to the current scenario in Africa. The presentation
was to be followed by a live speech by the participants. Mridul
Poojary and Sarthak Grover of Class XII D participated in the same
from our school, bagging the third position in the competition.
DPS Mathura Road was represented by Ananya Rath (XII B) and Sar-
thak Grover (XII D) at the 52nd Gowardhan Dass Memorial Inter-
school Declamation Contest organized by Springdales Pusa Road
on 20 April 2018. The contest was presided over by Mr CV Srikanth.
The event witnessed an over whelming response in which more than
50 schools from Delhi NCR participated.
Our school participated in Inter-DPS Environment National Fest 2018
– Panchtatva held at DPS, RK Puram on 21 April 2018. There were
various offsite and onsite events in the fest. Our school participated
in 3 onsite events namely Waste-Wise Collage Making, Model Mak-
ing and Mime- Let The Silent Earth Speak. The students of our school
performed in a team comprising of five members and won 2nd posi-
tion making our school proud.

SCIENTIA EST POTENTIA
The following students of Delhi Public School Mathura Road partici-
pated in HASH 6.0, an Inter-School Computer Competition organized
by Darbari Lal DAV Model School Shalimar Bagh on 27 April 2018.
Madhav Walia and Abhik Sarkar Basu of XI A, bagged the 2nd
prize in the Senior Quiz Competition (QUIZ-WHIZ).
Sheikh Aman of Class XI F, qualified for the second final in the Pho-
tography Competition (PHOTOCALL) and ranked 4th out of 28
schools.
Sauhard Jain of Class X B and Areeb Mansoor of Class 1X C, par-
ticipated in the surprise event (FLABBERGAST).
Sauhard Jain of Class X B and Arsh Arora of Class XI A participated
in Digital Imaging (GRAPHICS TRICKS) and reached the prelims.
Delhi Public School, RK Puram hosted its Annual Inter -School
Science Festival, ‘Scientia est Potentia’, on 28 April 2018 in
which a total of 24 schools across Delhi NCR participated.
Students of DPS Mathura Road actively participated in OFF-
SITE events and following ON –SITE events which included
Classical Debate, Model Making, Science Quiz, Chem Can-
vas, Ad-act-Actinium, Outdoor Lab and Let’s Innovate. Rishabh Mediratta (XI A), Nishit Mathur (XII-H), Divyansh (XII-
C) and Kshitiz Priyam (XII-C) of DPS Mathura Road won the
third position in Ad-Act Actinium.
DIGEX 2018
An event on photography-DIGEX was held in DPS, R.K. Puram on Sat-
urday, May 12, 2018. Various competitions on photography and mov-
ie making were a part of the event and the following students partici-
pated in them — Garima Huria (XI-A), Fareya Tanvir (XI-F), Vardaan
Dogra (XI-G), Nikhil Kriplani (XI-G), Ayush Malhotra (XI-G), Aman Ab-
dul (XI-F).
On 28 April 2018, our school participated in the Adyopant Legal Inter-
School Legal Awareness Street Play Competition 2018 - National Level.
Our school bagged the 1st Prize amongst the 8 schools, that partici-
pated in the competition. The students who participated are Nishit
Mathur (XII-I), Shreeya Gupta (XII-I), Neha Kapoor (XII-M), Anmol Mal-
hotra (XII-K), Annanya Gaba (XI-K), Pratishtha Ditya (XI-J), Karanjeet
Singh (XI-L), Sanya Gangotia (XI-L), Aditya Saha (X-B), Aishnna Talwar
(X-D), Anirudh Kalia (X-C) and Ananya Lal (X-F).

ECHOES- NAAD NINAAD
The performing arts festival, Echoes- Naad Ninaad organised by DPS,
RK Puram provided students with an extensive platform where they
are free to express their talent through various forms of creative ex-
pression such as dance, music and singing in Indian and International
mediums and explore these talents beyond the classroom. Our stu-
dents participated in various competitions such as Nrityabhinaya
(Indian Group Dance), Sway (Western Group Dance), Indian Group
Instrumental Music and Indian Group Song – Sufi-Dadra-Kajri.

“Creativity is putting in your imagination
to work.”
That is why, Delhi Public School, Ma-
thura Road ensures that every child tru-
ly holds their idiosyncratic baton up by
organising the annual literary fest
“Literati” ,which was held this year from
26 to 27 April 2018, for Classes VI – XII.
Spanning over two days the event wit-
nessed vehement participation.
Keeping up with the legacy, Literati
2018 was a colossal success. Students
portrayed zest and vigour – displaying
the vibrancy in talent that the school
holds.
The events, Poet's Shack, Parchment
and Ink, Wandering Lens, and Doodle
Me, all put the best minds of the school
to work at creating magic with their lit-
erary and artistic skills.
Spell Bee aided in sharpening spellings
and understanding everyday uses of
complex words.

Three new events were introduced
this year to keep up with the tradi-
tion.
Shakespeare Live, Dialogue Chroni-
cles and Weave a Rhyme gave stu-
dents a brand new platform to ex-
press their creativity sprinkled in with
drama and prose building.
The school Principal, Sri Manohar Lal.
Along with the Vice Principals, Ms.
Deeksha Khera (Academic) and Ms.
Asha Tuli (Administrative), visited the
venues and motivated the students
with words of inspiration.
Students and teachers alike enjoyed
being a part of this illustrious event.

WORKSHOP ON CYBER CRIME
Components of Cybercrime - Unethical Hacking, sharing of ob-
scene content, Creating fake profiles, Stalking etc were discussed.
Students were also guided on how to remain secure on social net-
working sites.
Delhi Public school, Mathura Road organised
a workshop on Cyber Crime for students of
Class XII and students of Class IX on , 16 May
2018. It was conducted by Mr. Rakshit Tan-
don, a Cyber Security Evangelist. The Pur-
pose of workshop was to educate and pro-
mote awareness about cyber crimes taking
place in the world and how to counter them.
The Debating Club of DPS Mathura Road organized the Annual In-
ter School Debate – Opinions Matter for Classes XI and XII on 04
May 2018. The event saw an enthusiastic participation from ten
prominent schools from Delhi NCR and witnessed an exuberant in-
terplay of opinions, rightfully owning up to its name, debating on
the topic – Humanity has the Power to be its Own Saviour. This pan-
el of judges for the event constituted Dr. Shikha Kapoor – Associate
Professor, Department of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia; Ms.
Manjula Negi – a journalist and a film critic and Mr. Amit Arora – a
journalist, news reader, anchor, radio jockey, quiz master and a
commentator. Avni Kainth and Jayant Bakshi from DPS, Mathura
Road bagged the third Best Speaker and the Best Interjector tro-
phies, respectively.

TEACHER WORKSHOPS
A Capacity Building Workshop was organized for the teach-
ers of the Senior School on 29 June, 2017, by eminent CBSE
Counselor, Master Trainer and Psychologist, Ms. Geetanjali
Kumar on the topic “Effective Classroom Management”. The
emphasis of the workshop was on the peaceful and positive
disciplinary measures to handle students with diverse needs
in the classrooms; to be role models for the students; to go
beyond the textbooks and to create an interest and love for
their respective subjects. Special emphasis was on teachers
developing counselling skills, listening skills, empathy and
above all, developing effective ways to manage their own
emotions , stress, anger etc. and to be able to handle chil-
dren with love and care. Special care needs to be taken in
case of children from underprivileged sections and children
with Learning Difficulties, so that Classroom Modifications
can be done for Effective Learning; Peer Mentoring and Pa-
rental Interventions for the Holistic development of the child.
Children with severe behavioural issues must be referred for
therapy and professional counselling.
A workshop on “Inclusive Practices in the School Setting” was
conducted for the senior school teachers on 29 June 2017,
by Ms. Indu Wadhwa, Life Coach and eminent Teacher-
Trainer from the organization, ‘Aspiring People’. The empha-
sis of the workshop was on the intrinsic meaning of the word
‘Inclusion’ and the modalities and modifications to be made
in the classrooms for effective learning for children with di-
verse needs. The need for love and compassion and a car-
ing attitude; to give special attention to these children; plan-
ning a specialized curriculum; providing peer mentors/
buddies in the classrooms; creating a caring and sharing atti-
tude and removing barriers of discrimination, stigma and la-
belling, to pave the way for the holistic development of
these children were the focal areas. The need to develop
strong communication skills and build greater confidence
and self esteem in students was also talked about.

BASKETBALL
Our school Basketball Girls team participated in the 15th Honoria Lawrence Invita-
tional Basketball Tournament 2018-19 organized by The Lawrence School, Sana-
war from 2 to 6 May 2018. In the final our team played outstandingly and defeat-
ed Pinegrove School, Kasauli by 42-25. Tasha Ahmed of class XI-L was adjudged
as the “Highest Scorer” of the Tournament.
Our U -14 girls participated in the 3 on 3 Basketball Rumble, held at B.N.P.S. Sports
Ground, Ram Vihar on 20 May, 2018 and secured First position. The team consist-
ed of Mouli Arya, Vanshika Singh, Muskan Chhabra and Navodita Goel.
U- 16 girls participated in the 3 on 3 Basketball Rumble, held at B.N.P.S. Sports
Ground, Ram Vihar on 20th May 2018 and secured first position. The team mem-
bers are Yakshita Jain, Priya Singh, Himakshi and Saji Oberoi.
Our school team participated in the ALL INDIA IPSC BASKETBALL U -14 GIRLS
CHAMPIONSHIP 2018-19 organised by The Genesis Global School , Noida from 4
to 6 July 2018. The SUB JUNIOR girls team brought glory to our school by attaining
the SECOND position in the competition amongst the 11 schools that participat-
ed from different states.

KARATE
Aditya Chawla of class 11-F has got a silver medal in kata and a
Bronze medal in kumite at 4 NCR Karate Cup, state selection Ka-
rate championship on 20 May 2018 at DAV Public School Jasola
vihar.
CHESS
Rushil Gupta class 11-G won Delhi State U-17 Chess Tournament
2018 held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
from 2 and 3 April 2018.
Our school participated in Delhi State Inter School Chess Tourna-
ment 2018 held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New
Delhi from 05 tand 06 tApril 2018.
SWIMMING
Delhi state junior & sub junior aquatic swimming championship
was organized by Delhi Swimming Association at Dr. Shyama
Prasad Mookharjee Swimming Pool Complex from 25 to 27 May
2018. Tanmay Das of class 10 F won 4 Gold & 1 Silver. Robin Sen
of class 7 E won 1 Silver & 1 Bronze. Kaif Qureshi of class 10 G
won 3 silver & 2 bronze. Aastha Atal of class 10 F won 2 Bronze.
Chirag Chhabra of class 9 G won 2 Silver. Aayush Gupta of class
9 I won 2 Silver. Sambhav Chauhan of class 9 I won 2 Silver.
Eklavya Chauhan of class 8 B won 1 Silver.

TABLE TENNIS
Our school girl team won the gold medal in The National Level Inter DPS Table Tennis.
Championship organised by DPS Mathura Road on 21 and 22 July, 2018. Amiesha
Dhall of class 12 J secured second position in the Individual Category in the same
event.
In All India IPSC Table Tennis championship (U-14, U-17 & U-19) organised by DPS Ma-
thura Road from 27 to 29 July, 2018. DPS Mathura Road won the Overall champion-
ship
Our school U-19 Girls Team won Gold and U -17 Girls Team won Silver in team Event .
