How to Get the Books The required books can be found in the public libraries or purchased from any local or on-line bookstore.

What can Parents Do? Read with your child in a comfortable loca-

tion. Set aside regular family reading time

where you can discuss the occurrences of the story.

Take your child to the public library and bookstores and browse around together.

Ask your child questions about the story as they read it. This will help him/her better understand it, while letting them know you are interested.

Entering Kindergarten

(Parents may read aloud and discuss) Select 2 books from the following list.

Complete 1 activity for each book from the following list. • Keep a reading log/journal of the books you have read. Include the title(s), a one-sentence summary of each, and write two or three new words you have learned from your reading. • Make a mobile showing words, pic-tures or symbols of ideas, events or information presented in the book.

“Cereal Box Project” Cover all sides of cereal box with construction or wrapping paper. FRONT OF BOX: Include the following: title, author and a drawing that symbolizes the book. RIGHT SIDE: Characters and Setting: List the main characters and write a sentence about each one. Then describe the setting. LEFT SIDE: Problem and Solution: describes the main problem and the solution of the book. BACK OF BOX: Write a summary about the main events that took place in the book. TOP OF BOX: Include number of pages, and number of stars you would give this book if you were a book critic. The maximum number of stars would be 5.

Dear Families, As summer vacation approaches, students will be enjoying their time off with some “fun in the sun”! This is also

a great time to catch up on some reading. Since reading can be done any-where at any time, students will be re-quired to complete a reading project

during the summer. The completed ac-tivities are to be brought to their new

classroom on the first day of school, Au-gust 21, 2017.
