Railways use significant human labour for inspections

Human inspectors still perform majority of visual

track testing by walking the track.

An average inspector covers less than 3 kms of

track testing in one day.

Automation of manual inspection processes is

important for better quality inspections and

measurements as sensors cover more track,

more quickly and provide objective data.

On highly frequented tracks, wear would justify

more inspection but often, there are not enough

slots to do it.

Or expensive measuring vehicles are used,

which are operated outside normal railway

operating hours.

Z series is a sub-ambient cooled singular assembly with integrated

processing, electronics, sensors, lighting and data storage. It scans rail and track bed.

Vegetation maps

S Series

The detection of vegetation and the measurement of its

clearance is an important S series output. Colour

cameras combined with LIDAR measurements

automatically determine the amount, type and extent of

vegetation growth surrounding railway tracks.

Clearance measurements are reported with track location based on vegetation proximity to the track centreline. Areas in red need to be cut back from the track.

Vegetation maps are generated from measured data to show the extent of various types of vegetation on the track. The position of hazardous trees is shown. The maps are interactive.

Sighting distances

signals, level crossings and

speed signs. There are strict

rules on what these minimal

distances must be to allow

the driver to brake if

needed.

Automated recognition of
