RegulationHCFC R22 refrigerant is the most widely used in air conditioning, heat pump and refrigeration equipment, however, it is classified as an ozone depleting substance and is the subject of a phase-out programme under the European Community (EC) Regulation no. 2037/2000.

Legislation The Energy Performance in Buildings Directive requires that all air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12kW must be regularly inspected by an Energy Assessor, the inspections must be no more than 5 years apart. Systems >250kW should have been inspected by 4th Jan 2009, systems >12kW should be inspected by 4th Jan 2011 (systems installed after 1/1/2008 should have their first inspection before Jan 2013) .

Daikin’s VRV systems are among the most energy efficient, reliable, flexible and sophisticated systems on the market today. Many existing VRV systems (The original system of it’s type established in 1982) will be nearing the end of their life cycle - either due to age or prematurely as a result of the HCFC (R22) refrigerant phase-out.

The latest innovation in the extensive Daikin VRV range is VRV-IIIQ. Daikin’s VRVQ has been introduced to reduce the cost of replacing an existing older VRV system. Historically it has not been possible to replace R22 systems without also replacing all the interconnecting pipework due to high risk of damaging contamination; pipework often follows complex routes and is a semi-permanent fixture and therefore difficult and very costly to remove or replace.VRVQ enables existing pipework and some types of indoor fan coil units to be re-used, this is subject to site survey findings.
