DIVISIONS, RULES, AND ENTRY CONDITIONS

Divisions

Juniors aged (6-12yr olds)

• Maximum 125 participants

• All players must be turning 6-12 years inclusive in 2020

Cadets aged (13-15yr olds)

• Maximum 14 teams

• All players must be turning 13-15 years inclusive in 2020

Opens aged (16+yr olds)

• Maximum 8 teams

• All players must be turning 16 years or older in 2020

Players may play in only ONE team throughout the Carnival.

Games are played in accordance with the International Netball Federation Rules of Netball 2020 edition. See a full outline of these rules here.

Entry conditions

• Teams are limited to a maximum of 10 players

• Nominations may close prior to the dates advertised if full capacity is reached

• Teams must confirm full team lists online (to the link provided to the team contact) by Friday 25 September 2020

• Only registered players are eligible to play in the Carnival.

• The Carnival is run on a first in first served basis. Once the competition has been filled, no more registrations will be accepted

• Players are allowed to play in ONE team throughout the Carnival

• Important Note: You must identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander to be eligible for this event.

Competition format

Juniors (6-12yr olds) will be split into groups and will participate in skills and drills activities throughout the mornings. Game play will be incorporated at the end of each morning session.

• Thursday 1 Oct 8am-12pm

• Friday 2 Oct 8am-12pm

Cadets (13-15yr olds) will be placed into Pools within their division, dependent on the number of team nominations. The winners of each Pool with play off in a Finals game.

• Thursday 1 Oct 11am-5pm

• Friday 2 Oct 11am-5pm

Opens (16+yr olds) will play round games (each team once), dependent on the number of team nominations. The top 2 teams after the Round games will play off in a Finals game.

• Thursday 1 Oct 11am-5pm

• Fri 2 Oct 11am-5pm

Carnival draws will be posted and will be available using the MyNetball App as soon as possible prior to the start of the carnival.

Forfeits

Teams must be at their court 5 minutes before the game starts. It is the responsibility of the captain to be at the coin toss 2 minutes before the game to ensure that games can run on time with the central clock.

If the team is not ready at the court at the start time of the game, they will automatically lose the coin toss. If the team does not field a team (min 5 players) 5 minutes after the starting siren, they will be deemed to forfeit that game.

Code of conduct

This Carnival operates under Netball Australia’s Member Protection Policy Attachment A: Codes of Behaviour - (Codes of Conduct)

By registering in the Carnival, all players, officials and spectators agree to these Codes of Behaviour, which can be found here.

Players are required to respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

This is a smoke, sugar, and alcohol-free event.

The use of drugs or alcohol is not permitted within the Nissan Arena complex.

Smoking is prohibited at Nissan Arena at all times throughout the Carnival. Anyone caught using any of these substances will be asked to leave the premises.

COVID SAFE PLAN:

QUT and Deadly Choices are working to ensure strict adherence to the Nissan Arena’s COVID Safe Plan. We will also be closely monitoring and adhering to Queensland Health’s guidelines to ensure a safe event for all involved.

This includes ensuring social distancing and hygiene practices are followed at all times in the lead up to, during and post-event.

We will continue to be monitoring and adhering to the advice of all relevant health authorities and will communicate any changes to participants where health advice recommends modifications or cancellations to planned carnival activities.

NOMINATING A TEAM

Team nomination process

To nominate a team:

1. Juniors - players can nominate individually online at www.deadlychoices.com.au.

2. Cadets & Opens - a team contact person registers team interest online at www.deadlychoices.com.au.

3. Deadly Choices staff will contact the team manager/captain via email or phone with information to login to an online platform. This will allow teams to register individual team players.

4. Once registration is received, Deadly Choices staff will email the team contact person a link to the online Netball shirt selection page.

5. Team manager will select playing Netball shirt from the link attached to the kits order form.

Please note that registrations close on Friday 18 September, 2020.

Team list / player nomination form

All teams wishing to participate in the Carnival must finalise their registration and team list by close of business on Friday 25 September 2020.

Log in details for this form can be found in the team registration confirmation email.

Deadly Choices staff will email a link for teams to select a team uniform. This process is first in first served.

Image consent

Throughout the Carnival, phototgraphers will be taking photos and videos. These may be used in Deadly Choices and/or QUT promotional items including, but not limited to, posters, flyers, the website, and social media.

You will be asked if you consent to your image being used as such as part of the registration process. If you do not want your image used, please note this on your registration form and advise staff at the event.

Team manager responsibilities

The team manager is responsible for the registration of the team, as well as making sure player registrations are all submitted by the due dates.

The Deadly Choices team must be notified of the following:

• Changes to team manager or their contact information

• Change of team/player list

• Other general concerns.

Playing shirts

Shirts are provided FREE as a part of the registration process. These shirts must be worn by the team throughout the Carnival.

Teams are able to select shirts colours, and must choose a shirt as their team uniform.

Shirts can be collected upon arrival at Nissan Arena on Thursday 1 Oct 2020.

FAQ’s

What dates are the Netball Carnival being played on?

• Thursday October 1 & Friday October 2.

Where is the carnival being played?

• Nissan Arena- https://nissanarena.com.au/.

Is there parking available at the venue?

• The QSAC (Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre) precinct has a multi-story parking block with over 600 carparks available (except for major events).

• Along with ring-road parking around the athletics stadium, the precinct has over 1000 parking spots.

We recommend you familiarise yourself with the local area parking street regulations.

How do I get public transport to the venue?

• Banoon Station is the closest railway stations for patrons travelling to and from the arena.

• To plan your journey, visit the Translink Journey Planner.

• Bus- Kessels Rd at QE11 Stadiums, Stop 57, are the closest stops.

How much does it cost to participate?

• The event is free for all participants.

Are spectators allowed in the venue?

• Spectators are allowed in the venue but will need to adhere to all COVID

protocols that are in place.

• Should this change or restrictions put in place, an email will be sent outlining protocols.

Who will make the decision to modify or cancel the carnival? How will participants, teams and participants be notified?

• QUT Sport will adhere to Queensland’s Health guidelines as well as seeking guidance from the University and Nissan Arena.

• QUT Sport will notify all registered participants, parents, guardians via email should the event need to be cancelled.

What additional measures have been taken to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission?

• QUT Sports COVID Safe plan has been approved by the University and Nissan Arena.

• QUT Sport have developed a risk assessment to accompany the COVID Safe plan and will be putting these measures into practice during the carnival.

• QUT Sport have purchased additional sanitiser equipment and this will be available to participants and spectators during the event.

• Additional cleaning services have been put in place by the Arena which is reflected in our COVID Safe plan.

How do I access the photos which were taken at the event?

• The link to the photo gallery will be emailed to participants.

If I or my kid becomes sick or injured and can no longer participate in the carnival, who should I inform?

• Please contact Deadly Choices.

Can I purchase food and drink at the Venue? Will catering be provided for participants?

• Catering (morning tea & lunch) will be provided for participants.

• Selected food and drink will be available to purchase at the venue.

What are the uniform requirements?

• All participants will receive a free Deadly Choices shirt for the carnival.

• Participants will be able to choose their style and size when registering for the event.

• Participants are encouraged to wear black tights/bummers, shorts (no zippers) or skirts.

• Bibs will be provided for the event.

Juniors Cadets & Opens

and draw will be provided to all participates via email closer to the Event.

How do I keep up to date?

• Our primary method of updates will be via Facebook. Keep your eye on

Deadly Choices Facebbok and QUT Sports.

• Emails will be sent to participants/guardians/parents closer to the carnival with all the key information you will require.

• Draw for the Cadets and Opens games will be available closer to the Event using the MyNetball App and emailed to all respective teams.

Can males participate in this event?

• As per Netball Australia guidelines, males up to and including 12yrs old can participate in the Junior clinics.

• Unfortunately, due to limited court numbers, males older than 12yrs will not be able to participate but we will look at incorporating a mixed division in the future.

Will there be First Aid and Medical Assistance available?

• There will be a Paramedic and Sports Trainer on site during the Event.

Can I volunteer at the event?

• Yes - we are always looking for more volunteers.

What are the age groups?

• Juniors 6-12 years

• Cadets 13-15 years

• Opens 16+

Are there trophies at the end – is there a winner?

• All Juniors will receive a gift for participating in the carnival.

• There will be 1st and 2nd prize trophies for Cadets and Opens.

Are there finals?

• Juniors will not have finals; however, games will be played at the end of each day to implement skills learnt in sessions throughout the day.

• Cadets and Opens will compete in a final series on Friday 2 Oct at the completion of their rounds.

Who are the umpires?

• Umpires will be provided by QUT Sport and will be a minimum C-badged umpire.

How long are the games?

• Juniors have been allocated 40mins for game play in their morning sessions each day.

• Cadets and Opens will play 2 x 12min halves with 1min half time break.

How many games are we playing per day?

• Cadets and Opens will play between 6-7 modified games over the 2 days.
