Science News: Space Explorers!

Year 5 and Year 7 went on an excellent trip to the Brisbane Planetarium this week. We learnt about how massive our solar system is, and we have learnt heaps of interesting facts. Everyone was excellent during the excursion, and we proudly represented the Murri School. From Bronwyn

Murri School Library: Teacher Librarian: Bob Cobb Library Assistant: Gail Locke The Murri School has a good base stock of books and non-book resources. We intend to increase those stocks with at-tractive and interesting resources. All of our students are encouraged to borrow regularly. Stu-dents may borrow a set number of fiction and non-fiction books according to their year level. Items may be borrowed

for a maximum of two weeks. Under the current reading scheme used in every class, students are encouraged to borrow from the library.

The ability to read fluently is an important factor in success in most studies. As well, recreational reading can bring much joy to many children once the habit is established. Encourage your child to use the school library, to have a book out at any given time and to treat books with respect. Find time to listen to your child read or talk about the book they are reading. Your co-operation in seeing that books are re-turned in good time would be greatly appreciated. Library books that are lost or damaged are ex-pected to be replaced or else re-imbursed. Culled books: Occasionally, our library sets aside books and magazines that have been culled from our collection for various reasons. We put these in a FREE BOOK section for children (& anyone else) to pick & choose from and take home to keep. So, parents, from time to time your

child may bring home a free book/s from our library. These books usually have a red texta mark on them to show that they’ve been culled from the collection.

Year 5’s and 7’s Trip to the Planetarium By: Tane Currie

On Tuesday the 13th of February our class, Miss Bronwyn, Miss Dee, Miss Sini, Uncle Morris, Uncle Shane and the year 7 class came with us to the Plane-tarium at Mount Coo-tha. Straight after Munch ‘n’ Crunch break, we got on the bus. I was sitting in a one seat-er across from Jorja and Lurline. They kept being annoying. It felt like it took 2 hours but it really took about half an hour.

When we arrived, we were a bit early so we decided to go to the Tropical dome but we walked straight past the sign that said it was closed. A lady told us she was cleaning it out, so we went to the Botanical gar-dens. We saw a whole heap of different gardens and

plants from all around the world. We had to hurry back to the Planetarium and just made it in time. When we got inside, we had to sit on some black couches and we were watching our planet from the satellite. After we had to do a work sheet about our solar system. On the 2nd sheet Stevie helped me out with it. When we were done, we went in to the cosmic sky dome. We had to wait outside then when we went in, we learnt about what’s up in space and all about the planets like what are the gas giants, what is the biggest planet, what is the furthest planet away and all different things. Before we went back to school, we had lunch. On the bus, we had to sit in the same spots. I enjoyed the trip to the Mount Coo-tha Planetarium. I hope we can go back there again!

The Murri School has registered for Coles Sports for Schools campaign. We have a collection box in the office as well as one in the tuckshop.

We are able to order sports equipment with vouchers we receive at the school (for every $10 spent at Coles, customers receive one voucher).
