Currently each Craft has a Mapping Exercise included in the

Arrangements Document showing which PDA units link to which TAP and outlining when results for PDA units can be sent to CSkills.

SPECIALIST” Units.

Current Issues with the delivery “Generic Units”

Inconsistent approach across all centres (taught as stand alone units to partially completed checklists).

Do staff feedback to learners on their development with Generic Unit competences ?

Are these unit truly integrated with Specialist Craft Units? Do centre staff know when to result Generic Units.

Current Issues with the delivery “Site Evidence Reports”

Inconsistent approach across all centres to the collation and use of this evidence from the workplace.

No formal requirement from the Awarding Body. E.Vs sign them but if there are not available then, SO WHAT!

Do they really record an apprentices experiences and skills developed in the workplace?

NEED TO FORMALISE EVIDENCE FROM THE WORKPLACE INTO THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Current Issues with the delivery of “Associated Subjects”

Inconsistent approach across all centres with the delivery and integration of this material and knowledge.

No formal requirement from the Awarding Body. If the centre does not teach and integrate these subjects. SO WHAT!

Need to continue to produce the rounded craftsperson with the ability to read drawings .Have an understanding of how craft practices are influenced by scientific principles.

Also an appreciation of the impact of the Government’s sustainability agenda on the Construction Industry.

Current issues with preparing learners for “Skills Testing” Inconsistent approach from employers in relation to preparing learners

for Skills Testing (Pre Skills Preparation)

Centres have no formal link to the testing process. If apprentices don’t undertake “Pre Skills preparation”. SO WHAT !

We do not have a formal process for confirming that apprentices are ready to undertake skills testing of progressing from year to year.

Generic Units. Delivery and Assessment All Generic Units to be part of the PDA Framework. All PDA units (including the Generic Units) will have a

corresponding TAP.

TAPs will be PDA specific. No need for a Mapping document to know when to forward PDA

results when TAPs are achieved. TAPs for Generic Units will still allow naturally occurring evidence

from the delivery of specialist units. Generic Units can be Internally and Externally Verified more

effectively.

Construction Craft Employment Skills Unit New Candidate Record of Evidence from the

Workplace. (CREW) Candidates will need to produce six completed

CREWs over the four years of the award. Year 1 2 completed CREWs Year 2 2 completed CREWs Year 3 1 completed CREW Year 4 1 completed CREW Evidence to be held for external verification

Candidate Record Evidence Workplace. (CREW) Main features :-

1 Responsibility for gathering evidence lies with the Candidate. 2 Authenticated by Supervisor. 3 Record of experience mapped to the NOS. 4 Assessment of evidence lies with the Lecturer/ Assessor. No issue with confirming WBR Qualifications ( A1) 5 Direct Evidence for the new “ Construction Craft Employability

Skills “ Unit ( Min. 6 CREWS over 4 years.) Quality Assured by SQA External Verifiers. 6 Reference document for Apprenticeship Officers when

carrying out Reviews. 7 User friendly, 5 Generic pages, only one Specific to each craft.

Construction Crafts Competence Assessment Unit

This unit will formalise the arrangements for Skills Test preparation and progression for candidates from year to year.

This unit will also. Assist candidates to prepare for and meet the requirements of the Skills Test by providing time to hone previous learned skills

and techniques prior to undertaking the Skills Test. Evaluate candidate development and progress at the end of each

year through a predetermined competence test. (last TEST in the last TAP in each year)

Construction Crafts Associated Subjects Unit:-

The purpose of this unit is to formalise the syllabus content which was developed and appended to each TAP at the last review at

requestof SBATC.The unit content will require candidates to meet the evidencerequirements for   Interpreting Construction Drawings. Identifying common building defects and solutions based on craft

science principles. States the covered by the Building Standards in relation to the

Codes for Sustainable homes.

Health & Safety Unit.

This mandatory non specialist unit MUST be delivered and assessed in the first week at College and will ensure that candidates have an understanding :-

First Aid. Fire Evacuation. Asbestos. Working Safely. Situational Awareness. Risk Assessments. Accident Reporting

Current Issues with Appreciation of Access Platforms and Equipment Continue to deliver the APPRECIATION Unit

within the first College block (Delivery Programme) Comply with the requirements of CSkills, SBATC SPADAC and SQA.

This unit will be externally verified.
