32 Queensland Branch Spectrum August 2010 On Friday 18th June over 100 delegates gathered in Toowoomba for the 2010 Queensland Radiotherapy Weekend. Friday night kicked off with drinks and some fabulous food at the historic Gip’s restaurant and was an evening for catching up with old friends and making new ones. The scientific programme was diverse and with eight PDYs presenting, it was very much a glimpse at the future of our pro- fession. All presenters should be congratulated on the quality of their work and their preparation and professionalism. Aldo Rolfo gave an inspired talk about the role of the radia- tion therapist in 2010 and the challenges facing our profession moving forward. The convening committee was honoured that Aldo took time from his busy schedule to be a guest speaker and there is no doubt his thought provoking message was the highlight of the weekend. The theme running through the weekend was role expan- sion of the radiation therapist and where we as a profession wanted to be. This was reinforced during the Fellowship session which asked the question “Research and publication. How can the radiation therapist do it?”. Aldo Rolfo, Rebecca Owen and Mark Middleton gave their perspectives on what Queensland Radiation Therapy Weekend Toowoomba Mark Middleton Sarah Kaminski and Cindy Versace was needed to boost our profession’s research profile and how valuable research was as a professional and personal development tool. Exciting product updates were offered by Varian, Elekta, Siemens, Nucletron and CMS Alphatech and each of these ven- dors were also generous sponsors of the event. Saturday night was a noisy, fun filled dinner which for some registrants finished at 5.30 am on Sunday.
