QUEEN OF MARTYRS CHURCH Evergreen Park, Illinois
50/50 Raffle Results for 3/9/20
Fr. Marty’s Musings Today we here the narrative of Jesus encounter with a Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus approaches her with a physically thirst but ends up quenching her own spiritual thirst. He offers her, and in turn us, living waters, a “spring of water welling up to eternal life.” He also told her every-thing that she had done. We cannot fool Christ or keep things hidden from the Lord. Although we do not have any candidates for the Rite of Christian Initiation this year, today begins a series of Scrutinies in churches preparing for the Easter Sacraments around the world. For the next three Sundays, please keep in your prayers those on the journey of faith towards Baptism.
Join other Queen of Martyrs parishioners at today’s South Side Irish Parade. The theme this year is “Thankful for Catholic Elementary School Teachers” and honors teachers at Queen of Martyrs and 15 other schools. Many people sacrificed to establish our school 67 years ago and generations have backed an excellent Catholic education for hundreds of students. Our mission continues through the dedication of a fine faculty and families who support our schools. Show the teachers that you have their back as we march behind them—we are Group #44, gathering at 103rd and Artesian at 11:15 am. Show your support for Queen of Martyrs School .
This is week celebrating two great saints with impactful cultural significance. Tuesday, Election Day, is also St. Patrick’s Day. Patrick was not born in Ireland—he was first taken there unwilfully by kidnappers. He later returned by choice to spread the Gospel to the Celts. March 19 is St. Joseph’s Day, sacred to all who follow his adopted Son, but in a special way to those of Italian and Polish heritage. St. Joseph’s Tables celebrate a communal

Sharing your talents, time and treasure.
On Monday, March 9th Envelope No. 2502 was drawn. There was NO winner. The total amount of the prize pot was $18,862.00. To be eligible for the raffle, you must use two separate envelopes for the current week. In your regular weekly envelope, your contribution must be at least $5.00; and you must use the corresponding week’s 50/50 envelope with a $5.00 contribution in that envelope. To be included in the weekly 50/50 drawing, envelopes must be in the rectory office by 8:30 A.M. on the Monday morning immediately after the weekend.
Good luck next week!
meal and sharing with the poor. Let us remember the great man of faith who probably made the table that Jesus and Mary ate at with him. He believed in God’s word and was a true father to Jesus in all but blood. Let us also remember those children who are without a home. Let also pray for those without a loving father-figure in their lives.
Fr. Marty Marren
Temporary Guidelines from the Archdiocese of Chicago
During all Masses and liturgies: Refrain from using Holy Water fonts. Refrain from holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer. Refrain from physical contact during the Sign of
Peace—the Sign of Peace can be exchanged without physical contact.
Refrain from distributing Holy Communion to the faith-ful via the chalice—maintaining options for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. (Note: We have low-gluten hosts available on request.)
Because of frequent contact with saliva in distributing Holy Communion on the tongue, every consideration should be given by each individual to receive Holy Communion reverently in open hands for now.
If you are sick or are experiencing symptoms of sickness, you are not obliged to attend Mass. Indeed, out of charity you ought not to attend if ill. Catechism 2181 allows the faithful to miss Mass for serious reasons like illness.
Missalettes at Entrances Missalettes are at the entrances—please return them after Mass. The Sunday readings Gather number is on page 6 of the bulletin.

Queen of Martyrs Parish Outreach
Sandwich Schedule for Adult Members at 9:00 a.m. in the Convent on the following Wednesdays:
2020
March 18 April 1, 15 & 29
“Good example is the most efficacious apostolate. By your good example and your words, animate others to know and love God.” (St. Mary Joseph Rossello) We see this illustrated in today’s gospel. Jesus shares a conversation with the Samaritan woman – a highly unlikely situation of their times. She in turn shares his words with her fellow Samaritans who are willing to welcome Jesus and his teachings into their lives. Don’t forget the impact your words and actions can have on others as you continue your Lenten journey.
Outreach Envelope Donations
As you open your April donation envelope packet, please make it a point to use the special envelope to donate to the Outreach program. This envelope was supposed to be dated and used for a second collection this weekend. Unfortunately, the company mistakenly omitted it in the March packet. We rely completely on your donations to maintain our programs. Thanks in advance for your generosity.
**The Outreach program is looking for a wheelchair for one of our clients as well as a vacuum cleaner - preferably something light or easily portable. Contact Lin at [email protected] or the rectory if you would be able to help. Thanks!

Queen of Martyrs 6th Grade Students Participate in Service Project
The students in Mrs. Creevy’s class collected needed items to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Oak Lawn. Director, Anne Czarnecki was very grateful to the students and their families for their generous support of this worthy cause.
A representative from the Ronald McDonald House, Ms. Margaret, came to speak to the Q of M 6th Graders to explain the work of this wonderful charity. The students then collected household products, such as paper towels and laundry detergent. They also brought in cases of water and gift cards that the families of patients can use for meals and other necessities during their stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their child is receiving treatment for their illness. Ms. Meghan, another representative from the Ronald McDonald House came to pick up the donated items. She was overwhelmed by the generosity of the students as there was 100% participation from the 6th Grade Class. The items filled up her trunk! Way to go Wildcats!
