This weekend we celebrate our independence as a nation. As we take the time to enjoy our 239 years of freedom, let us not forget about the men and women who came before us. They were the trail blazers who risked their lives, who endured hardships and struggles and were the visionaries of their time. They sacrificed so

much in order that we could be a nation that remained strong, proud and free. Let us take a moment of our time today to give thanks and realize how blest we are.

The Scripture Readings today remind us of the obstacles and challenges we face in living out the Gospel message. The prophets experienced opposition and stubbornness from the people. They refused to listen and to be open to the Spirit. Jesus encountered the same attitude in his own hometown. The people failed to see Him as the Messiah. They only looked at him as the carpenter’s son, with very little to offer. Jesus could not break down the barriers that prevented them from listening and hearing Him. He was disappointed in their lack of faith. How do we listen to Jesus in our lives? Are we as hard hearted or are we open to His message? Are we turned off or attentive to His word? How is Jesus able to reach you in your life? What are you doing to get Jesus’ words and message into prac-tice in your lives? He is calling on you to give Him a chance and to change your ways.

Today our Youth Minsters and teens leave for Kentucky. My hope is that it is a wonderful experience and that they accomplish a lot in reaching out to those in need. I’m sure that in the weeks ahead, they will share their reflections and experience with us.

I would encourage you to purchase your raffle tickets for Martyrsfest. Help us to reach our goal of selling all 1000 tickets. If you are willing to help or volunteer your time during the Fest, let Bob Pellegrini or Cindy Durkin know. Your assistance is truly appreciated.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Sandwich Schedule for Adult Members at 9:00 A.M. in the Convent on the following Wednesdays:

2015 July 15 & 29

August 12 & 26

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“He was amazed at their lack of faith.”

(Mark 6:6) Come to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament with faith. See more than Bread. See and believe in His Real Presence and Jesus will work wondrous deeds for you and through you. Please consider committing to a specific hour. Call Marion at (708) 424-8433 or sign up at the Adoration Chapel.

“Teach Christ” with Scripture We invite you to join Fr. Kevin McCray and your fellow parishioners for a discussion of the Sunday readings at 8:30AM each Sunday morning. We will meet in the usher’s room of our Church for about 30-45 minutes to discern how these teachings of Jesus affect our every day life. To prepare for next Sunday’s Word you may read and ponder the following:

Scripture passages for July 12:

First Reading: Amos 7:12-15 What criteria do you use to discern when to accept or reject a call to service?

Second Reading: Ephesians 1:3-14 What does it mean to live a holy life? Do you consciously em-brace the vocation to holiness?

Gospel: Mark 6:7-13 What do you receive from your membership in the Church? What do you offer in exchange?

Please join us for the new adventure in learning so that we might “Teach Christ” with Scripture.

We look forward to seeing you there!

As we celebrate our independence this weekend with picnics, trips to the lake, fireworks, and just getting together with friends, let’s remember how those freedoms came about and be thankful for them. Do a favor for someone, lend a helping hand, or just be nice to someone for no reason at all! Enjoy your holiday!

Queen of Martyrs Students Participate In “Field Days”

Students and Staff of Queen of Martyrs School joined together to enjoy a beautiful sunny day filled with many fun outdoor activities. Students had the opportunity to visit various stations which included a balloon toss, a water relay, jump roping, bean bags, funny dress up relay, baton relay, and a face painting station. The students spent a relaxed day specially geared toward them to help celebrate their hard work throughout the school year. Many students dressed in Chicago Black Hawks gear to show their “Hawks” Spirit during the NHL Playoffs. Queen of Martyrs Family and School Association provided a hot dog lunch for the student body and staff. Wildcat Pride was very evident on this special day!
