Dear students, the new inventions, new technologies with electronic and digital resources are rapidly moving fast to generate and

disseminate information to the users. I am very happy to address the students through Quasar Magazine 2013.

Every day the technological innovations are giving people around the world new opportunities to shape their own destinies and make the future bright. The information and communication technologies with new resources are evolving at unprecedented speed. In the 21st century the connectivity of people to WWW has increased from 350 million to more than 2.5 billion and the mobile subscribers have rose from 750 million to 6 billion. As said by Eric Schmidt by 2025 majority of the words population will be accessing the globes information through a device that fits in the palm of the hand. In the future Information and communication

technology will be like electricity everywhere. Technology will give you information on the desk everywhere you move. It’s you who have to make better use of the resources and educate yourself through proper planning and learning.

Now students you have to be alert while taking the education. You have to learn for yourself, for your parents, to get bright future, and for the nation. The economic crisis is developing very fast. In the next 15 years we have chance to rule the world through education. Students should have thorough knowledge of the curriculum. As narrated by Dr Narendra Jadhav the more educated country will be the richest country in the world

Do not study just to get the degree and the job. Try to achieve a best part and do the research which will benefit our country. In the 12th year plan the UGC has raised more funds for the education and research projects.

As a librarian and as per my experience I see students start their studies when the exams dates are announced. Many students qualify their exams and get the degree, but when you move in the market there your knowledge is tested. You should study take advantage of the library resources, e books, online journals, and with the help of teachers achieve more and more knowledge.

MOTTO: B-WOW –a friend in need to help students to shape their career.

Quality of Professional / Engineering Education in India is a matter of concern. Also Gap between Institutes & Industries is widening as p r o f e s s i o n a l s graduating out from colleges are not ready for jobs, both in terms of Core Skill Set Business Communication & Soft Skills. A pilot program had been successfully launched in Pune to remove this gap by Commander (Retd) B K CHHABRA, a former Specialist System Engineer in NAVY & Founder Director of Groupware Information Systems Ltd, IT Company at Pune. B-WOW pioneered by playing the key role to try & experiment a model with no cost commitment from College or students. But the college agreed to provide the

basic infrastructure to run the program. We studied the existing model of training & placement of College. Students got involved in our program, as the core factor of attracting students was JOB

opportunity. The college campus recruitment is an exercise by the Industries to pick top students & then mould them in house to make them billable or usable in their respective industries. The criteria of selection leaves many Good

students out, as the cut off is based on Academic Performance i.e they should have an average percentage of 55 % and above or First Class throughout, without any failure etc.

We observed, that the left out students were almost 50% of a batch size & some had many year downs. The number was almost 70 & they became our first group to be moulded / motivated to join our model. However in spite of

many workshops , seminars held by experts, few serious takers were left & almost a batch of 20 Students, with majority being Mechanical Engineers started interacting on daily basis after their final year examination & before the results (normally 45 Days period). We had an experimental model & with the support from Cdr. Chabbra’s known Industry experts as mentors, we could place many from this batch in Industries in regular hard core engineering jobs. A few of these students could not clear the final year examination, but Industries accepted them & continued their jobs, as they proved themselves as Good Professional Engineers. Our first experiment was to create Engineers & make them self confident in their skill set, which was successful with the support of MESCOE. Two students from this

batch joined hands to become entrepreneurs & the college started an Incubation Centre to help budding professionals. Few R&D assignment & projects were given to these students and they did a good job, which helped them earn money.

This year, B-WOW started operations on 05 April 2013, just before the close of the academic term 2012-13 & almost 100 Students joined with an offer letter of assured Jobs, in case they complete the post examination of Structured Soft Skills & Basic Engineering Foundation Modules like System Engineering, Project Management, Quality Assurance etc. The feedback from participants & continuous monitoring helped to apply corrective measures to make the program much more focussed.

In Conversation With Former Principal Dr. L. G. Navale

Rohit Sharma (TE Mech 1) What was your childhood like ? Tell us about your school life?

I had a privilege of coming from a primary teacher’s family teaching in a rural area. I studied under my parents in the school they used to teach. My uncle was my teacher from 1st to 4th grade, then my father taught me from 5th to 7th grade. From 8th grade onwards my fathers friends and colleagues taught me. I took my high school education from Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s school. I was always the top most student in academics and was moderate in extra-curricular activities. I still remember my Principal had given me the opportunity to study those subjects for 11th and 12th that were not taught in our High School itself. I prepared for those subjects on my own. He also took practicals for physics and chemistry for me alone. My father used to teach students not just in school but also at home. Within his and other teachers company I was always motivated to

be the best.Could you tell us about your childhood achievements?

I topped in my 7th grade exams at state level. I also used to appear for Hindi and Drawing competitions. I had topped the Hindi exam called ‘Parichay’ at state level. Even in 11th

and 12th I topped in my centre which consist of 2-3 talukas. I used to be in the organizing team for various programs being

the General Secratary.

Why did you choose engineering as a choice of subject and Teaching as a Profession?

Since childhood I had seen my father teaching and students respecting him and seeking for his guidance. After school my father used to take extra class at home. Students would even sleep in my house so that they can study late night. Those students who missed the school would catch up in these classes. Students enjoyed in his

‘I wanted to become a professor because

of my father’

class. Many times I would also be a part of the class. Those students who would bunk school and go for cinema were dragged out from the hall and made to attend the after school sessions by my father. All this motivated me to become a teacher. My Mother, Uncle, Brothers & sisters all were teachers. At a very early age my target was very clear ‘Engineering’ and to get there the way was through science college. After my graduation from

COEP in mechanical engineering, I refused the full time job offers to continue with my post graduation from COEP itself. Even in engineering I was performing well academically. I enjoyed the hostel life very much.

Could you talk a little more about your hostel life and peer pressure?

I had many friends, but my goal was set and staying focused was very important. I used to go out with my friends and enjoy, but the friendship had to be with a little reservation. I knew that my tuition fee came from scholarship and I couldn’t ask for money from my family due to certain problems. Friendship is important, but I also had to manage the whole semester with the money I would

get from my family. I would avoid asking for more. How was your experience being a professor for the first time?

I was the youngest assistant lecturer in COEP at that time. My professors were my colleagues now. I used to have a student’s perspective in mind before teaching. I always

Page 91: quasar2013-14

78

Modern education Society’S college of engineering, pune

thought of the easiest ways to make students understand a concept. I had a very famous line among students - “Teachers toh waha staff room mein hain. Main toh aap mein se ek hoon” (Laughs). Students would look up to me as I was pursuing post-graduation at the same time. They would get motivated to see someone like me finish his graduation in such a short span of time. In the second year of my post-grad, I had to discontinue my studies but I prepared for the papers on my own and cleared them all in the first attempt. I feel that it was a good decision as I had to give justice to my profession also. I was one of the youngest professors assigned to teach the post-graduation class after my post-grad. I used to experiment with different teaching methods and was always encouraged by my colleagues and the HOD. I would take feedback from my students and I always felt that because of my father, I could also teach that well.

Your teaching years must have been full of memorable incidents. Could you share some with us?

From assistant lecturer, I was promoted to Karad as a lecturer. At that time, people ideally wouldn’t choose to stay at Karad campus to teach. My focus was teaching and I wouldn’t let the place interfere with

it. I would never take leave until and unless it was necessary. When I applied for my transfer, my principal said that the transfer couldn’t be cleared till a replacement professor could be found as I was a dedicated professor and famous among students. I didn’t object to his decision and continued teaching for a few weeks, until one day when he called me in his cabin and told me that he’ll relieve me on that day itself. I took my lectures for that day too. Within hours of my revealing this to my students, they organized my sendoff. My colleagues also wished me luck as I was transferred back to Pune. I was really touched by all the love and regards.

After returning to Pune, give us your journey to MESCOE in a nutshell.

In Pune, I was transferred from the mechanical department to the production department, where I developed labs and workshops for students and went on to be the rector of COEP Hostel. Being the rector, I always thought about the students who couldn’t afford to stay outside the campus but would lose out on the hostel due to financial problems. There were many malpractices I had to tackle like parasite hostelities, who would pay their roommates and peons instead of the college authorities for the rooms. Due to this, the hostel

Page 92: quasar2013-14

79

Modern education Society’S college of engineering, pune

rooms were overpopulated and fights would spark among students because of these transactions. One of the reforms I introduced was to give students rooms to stay free of cost and make them work in the college mess and cleaning staff to earn their mess-rights. Also, hostelites who would voluntarily share their rooms with their friends just had to give an NOC in writing and the fees of the hostel room, as I had to take care of the government revenue as well. Every year’s result would decide who gets the hostel room, so a good student with no hostel room had a chance to get a hostel room next year. This way, I involved students in mess and other activities so as to get motivated to study and stay in the hostel in the next year.As I served as the Chairman of the Board of Studies UoP, Production and was involved in syllabus setting, I was also associated with the part-time degree course of Wadia College, and when the vacancy arrived, the management thought of me as the right candidate to be the Principal. This was a new opportunity for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my years with MESCOE and I am grateful that I got this opportunity to work with such amazing faculty and friends.

What is your perception about an ideal student?

Every student is a good student. How can a student be bad? “Haalaat student ko banata hai” (smiles). It is the circumstances that give shape to the character of a student. I remember a story about a drama director who wanted an actor for the role of Lord Ram for his play. He searched everywhere but he couldn’t find anyone with the qualities of Ram. After a long search, he came across a small child playing. His innocence convinced the director to cast him for the role when he grows up. As the child grows up, he learns new things and all that innocence is lost. The director notices that like all other people, this child also changed into Ravana instead of Ram (laughs). That is how circumstances can affect a person. Willpower and upbringing decide whether a student is good or not. As it is, learning never stops. We learn new things everyday.

This question, I think, is from all the students of our college. What should students do after graduation? Take up a job or go for higher studies? And in higher studies, MBA or MTech?

The student should decide by keeping in mind his or her abilities. For taking up a job after graduation, you need to be punctual and responsible by nature. Many students, I believe, due to financial

Page 93: quasar2013-14

80

Modern education Society’S college of engineering, pune

circumstances, do go for jobs. They should enhance their skills and keep an open mind to study after they’re financially stable. Students going for higher studies should be technically sound and hardworking. Management and MTech both are fields to prosper in. MTech could lead to research work, which is important and noble as a profession. I want the students to remember one thing - whatever

you choose, if you do hardword you are bound to succeed.

Could you please share a few words with the students of MESCOE?

Be logical, know your strengths and weaknesses, learn and practice regularly with a positive attitude. Make full use of your potential for the benefit of nature and society.

Do you remember the human tragedy that our subcontinent witnessed during the partition? Do you remember the tsunami just recently came and caused worst ever economic crisis in Japan? Then be ready to face the one that will be worst of its kind and ten times bigger than that. Did you get what I mean? Yes, it is a climate horror! I mean it. By now it may have struck your mind. Yes, I am talking about global warming.Leading meteorological scientists feared the worst that could happen to the mankind. The climate change will force a whopping 125 million people including 75 million Bangladeshis and 50 million Indians to migrate into various parts of India by the turn of centaury. The estimation is that green house gas emissions raise global temperature by 4-5 degrees Celsius towards the end of this century. Already world has witnessed a rise of 0.6 degree Celsius global temperature over the last 30 years which is a serious concern. Everyone talks about future weather conditions, but so far nobody has done much about it. Politicians, it seems are least concerned that climate change will

be a serious problem. It is very sad that they are policy makers for the world’s largest democracy. We will be caught off guard. The country will be wiped out by rising sea level leading to migration of people from low elevation coastal zones. This will badly affect West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Ultimately it leads to displacement of 10-12 million people with Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi and Panjim due to inundation pressurizing overcrowded cities like Delhi, Bangaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and yes, our own Pune will not be spared. According to estimates of Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC), the rise in sea level will press the panic button in the minds of people. Many land marks of Mumbai will be under water. The gateway of India, Marine drive, Bandra-Kurla complex are the few to name. Bhelpuri at chowpatty will become the stuff of grandmother’s tales. Worst affected will be monsoon climate change. Duration and total precipitation of the monsoon are all critical factors in determining the health of India’s agricultural sector that plays a

dominant role in the country’s economy. India has no choice but to adapt an economic growth path that moves towards de-carbonization. Many of us are not aware Kyoto Protocol. It was an agreement negotiated in Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto in 1997. Around 141 nations all over the world have signed the treaty and supported it. It targets carbon dioxide and five other gases that can trap heat in the atmosphere and are believed to be behind rising global temperatures. It legally bound industrialized nations to reduce worldwide emissions of green house gases by an average of 5.2% below their 1990 levels by 2012. U.S., the world’s largest emitter of such gases, has refused to ratify the agreement, saying it would harm the economy the Indian Carbon Market Group (ICMG), a combine of project developers, NGOs and consultants expects India to cash in on an option which permits a developed country to meet part of its targeted a mission cuts by funding clean options in developing countries. The government has already approved 54 projects, for forwarding to the international CDM executive board in Bonn. Since India now has a permanent seat on this board, approval and registration of projects is expected to gain momentum. For Indian

private sector, the protocol is a trade opportunity. In the complex international equations that will come into play, there could be an added incentive for investors to collect methane generated in landfills and burn it to produce electricity. Methane is a green house gas 20 times more potent than the more talked of carbon dioxide. Kyoto Protocol contains measures to asses performance and progress. It also contains some penalties. Now, every one of us should ask a question to self. Are we really ready to track carbon footprints? We can understand the more civilized mentality of human being. People are not good at making immediate sacrifices for an ultimate benefit in the future, when they have a hard time understanding the problem. As such, installing a solar powered hot water heater or a windmill at our place in the country is not going to erase the carbon footprint of maintaining and travelling to a second home. Recycling glass bottles and avoiding plastic bags at the grocery store will not offset our car’s emissions. Time has come for all of us to give it a serious thought. If not now, it will be never. Act now! Save the earth!! Save our planet!!! One might have well said precaution is better than cure. Now may I say jaago! India jaago!!

Effective Ways of Ruining Life Prof. M. Shahare, Mech. Department

As I set myself to write this article, promised to one of my student for QUASAR, there are varied thoughts and issues that are doing rounds of my nervous system. However, I decided not to write something that will sound preachy, because new generation of students tend to detest even an honest piece of advice. Instead, in this article I will elaborate on the awesomeness mantra to have cool life in ‘TechMax’ way. I came across this mantra while reading on web; though be warned that others are likely to label it as ‘effective ways of ruining life’.Let’s begin. Most trusted recipe to ruin your life is to - Start Denying the Reality. You must have noticed that all around you, people seem to have no confidence in themselves and do not realise that having positive attitude will itself solve the problems. So you aren’t committing a crime if you are too confident of yourself, and day dreaming positivity reflects in your lazy actions. If you believe things exists the way you perceive them to be and all others are wrong, so be it. Because, as they say - you must believe in yourself. So, if you think

your University mark sheet will read distinction automatically, or you will land up with a job just because that is what you wish, I will say you have started well.Second aspect of ruining life is to drape saintly attitude - Aim at Making Everyone Happy. If you think, you can only become happy when world around you will be happy, what’s wrong in that? After all you are thinking of good for everyone. Don’t worry about the fact that, you will end up burning yourself, while trying to live in accordance with expectations of people surrounding you. No one before ‘had it all’, but give it a try.Third trick to ruin your life is to - Share Your Secrets. Since we inhabit digital world and it’s all about sharing, it makes good sense to share your every personal detail and ideas to the people. This sharing will certainly fetch lots of ‘likes’, and eventually things that you would not like. But go ahead it’s a brand new day.The almost magical way to ruin your life -Substance Abuse. Surrender your brain to intoxicants, and hey dude you lose up the control over

Page 97: quasar2013-14

84

Modern education Society’S college of engineering, pune

your brain. And it is so cool thing to do, that it almost gives you the feeling of being in heaven. So if you don’t mind being bankrupt, or sleeping in a gutter, this heroism is worth its name. For intellectual kind of people there is another way to ruin life - Engage Yourself in Endless Planning. Governments usually best do it. Since in order to reach your goals, you must have a carefully thought out plan, and planning is a huge task, no one can accuse you of inaction. Do not worry about action or initiative, they are hasty decisions. Just keep yourself busy, and draw up a plan to ruin life. One more super shot at ruining life

is - Indulge Yourself in Matters of Everyone. Jump all lines and be there to punch quarrelling brothers. Certainly you can vouch for becoming a trouble-shooter for everybody around, and get yourself in a trouble. This way all your energy is drained out for others and what you’re left with is tiredness. But that’s not a bad option at all, if ruining your life is the aim.I know it is hard to live life your way. Everyone around is bound to growl – why don’t you listen to me? Go ahead, carve your life, without paying heed to anyone else. Put up a caller tune – It’s my life. Ruined or better is judgement for the future (or for history).

FriendshipsVishvali DeoTE-1 (E&TC)

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.” Truly, today, in this get-what-you-want-as-fast-as-you-can world, these lines by William Shakespeare hold even greater meaning. They define a friend in the most apt manner possible. Friendship between two people is a beautiful relationship of ‘give and take’ that they both cherish all their lives. It is a relationship that sprouts out from a seed of acquaintance and has to be watered with mutual trust and care to make it into a large tree whose shade can be enjoyed forever. A friend is the one who understands our unspoken words. He is the one with whom we can vent out our heart and rest assured that we will not be betrayed. He is the one who lives by our side without any conditions. As Rudyard Kipling says, ‘friend gives meaning to our survival’, he becomes an integral part of our life.

An old saying goes that ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’. A true friend is the one who does not leave his friend’s side even when the whole world turns against him. He, instead, holds his friend’s hand tightly and fights the world for him. Rich and the powerful men have many people around them who call themselves ‘friends’. But, most of the times, it is far from the truth. They are like those honey bees that suck the nectar out of a flower and leave it after depleting it. According to Aristotle, “a friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies”. So, if one soul is corrupted, the other is bound to go the same way. Hence, one should be careful about choosing friends as ‘you are known by the company you keep and, also, by the company you avoid’. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that friendship is a double-sided sword, which if used properly can give you the strength to face the cold, harsh world outside, or otherwise can give you deep wounds inside, both, for life.

Boys and girls all over the world are treated differently mainly be-cause of physical, physiological and mental reasons. Both the genders look different and think different. Boys are physically strong and girls are not. In societies, boys are more preferred than girls. For many ages boys were considered superior than girls. Girls were considered low ranked. There was an age of wars and females couldn’t play an active role compared to men.Now the things are improving. Treating boys and girls equally means treating them in exactly the same manner regardless of any quantifiable differences between them. Treating them fairly means treating them with consideration of those differences. Boys and girls are equal in every sphere of life. It is rightly said, when we educate a girl, we educate the whole family.Ancient culture and traditions may have denied equality to women. As a result they remained illiterate, vulnerable and helpless. But, edu-cation and opportunity are chang-ing their fate and the face of soci-ety. Many women are now working in collaboration with men for the

progress of the nation. As women learn practical skills, they grow in confidence and strengthen their support for each other and ensure the well-being of their families and communities. Education empowers girls to combat human trafficking, exploitation and child labour.Gender equality, first and foremost, is a human right. All people, girls and boys have equal rights and equal opportunities for realizing their full potential so that they may contrib-ute equally to political, economic, social and also cultural develop-ment of the society they live in. Girls continue to have fewer rights, lesser education, insufficient health care, lesser access to resources and decision making powers than boys. Nevertheless, girls’ crucial roles in decision-making, food production, income generation, management of natural resources, community or-ganization and domestic responsi-bilities are essential for sustainable development of the society. We cannot deny the fact that until girls get equal rights, we cannot end poverty and backwardness. When a girl is able to go to school, she transforms her future prospects

for employment as well as for earn-ing money. She learns about dis-eases and hygiene and takes care of her home.Treating boys and girls equally is not impractical. Social awareness and enlightenment are required so that girls can have the same rights as boys to avoid discrimination. The stability, growth and sustainability of economically prosperous coun-tries depend on treating boys and girls equally. We must uphold the dignity of women and support gender equal-ity. Respecting boys and girl stu-dents, making sure that every boy and girl between 7 to 15 years of

age goes to school. Women like Kalpana Chawala, Sunita Williams and Bachendri Pal are well known for their adventure. Men like Ma-hatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak, Lal Bahadur Shastri and women like Kasturba Gandhi, Aruna Asif Ali, Annie Besant, etc. played a power-ful role in the freedom struggle of our country, in the administration of our nation and in uplifting the downtrodden. We must give boys and girls equal nourishment and give them equal access to education.

Kisan Bapat Baburao Hazare is popularly known as Anna Hazare. He is an Indian social activist and a prominent leader in the Indian Aniti corruption movement 2011, using nonviolent method following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Anna also contributed to the development and structuring of Ralegaon siddhi, a village in parner taluka of Ahemednagar district. He was awared the Padma Bhushan the third highest civilian award by Government of India in 1992 for his efforts in establishing Ralegaon siddhi as a model for others.

Kisan Hazre was born on 15th June 1937 in Bhingar near Ahmednagar. He is the eldest son with two sisters and four brothers. His father worked in pharmacy. In time the family moved to their ancestral village of Ralegaon siddhi, where they owned a small amount of agricultural land. One of his relative took on burden of providing kisan with education and took him to Mumbai because there were no schools in Ralegaon siddhi. When kisan was in seventh standard his relative became financially weak so

couldn’t support him any more, so his education ended in standard seventh.

Then in Mumbai kisan started selling flowers at Dadar Railway station and eventually man aged to own two flowers shops. Indio-China war of 1962 caused the Indian army to commence emergency recruitment measures. Anna was drafted in April 1963,despite not meeting the physical requirements and was attested as a soldier on 16th November 1963 after undertaking training at Aurangabad. During the indo-pak war of 1965 Anna was posted at the border in the Khemkaran sector. He was the sole survivor of an enemy attack-variously claimed to have been a bomb,an arial assault and an exchange of fire at border while he was driving a truck. He thought to suicide at one point but turned instead pondering the meaning of life and death. He said,”It sent me thinking;I felt that God wanted me to stay alive for same reason.

I was reborn in that battlefield of KhemKaran and I decided to dedicate my life to serving people. ”He spent his spare time reading the works of swami Vivekananda, Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave.

Anna Hazare started an indefinite hunger strike on 16th August 2011 at Ramlila Maidan, Dehli against Indian government to enact a stringent anti-corruption law as envisaged in the jan Lokpal bill;for the institution of an ambudsman with the power to deal with corruption in public system. The

fast ended on 28th August 2011, a day after the government accepted his demands. For the year 2011, Foreign Policy Magazine named him among top 100 global thinkers. Also in 2011 Anna was ranked as the most influential person in Mumbai by a National Daily. Recently, He was awarded with the International Integrity Award. WE PROUDLY SALUTE ANNAJI!

A Single DadSaundraya Nakka

I'm a single Dad and have been for the last five years. I have a beautiful little six year old girl. Now, I'm sure I'm not the perfect father. I try to do the best I can, but I've come to terms with that too. I mean, I don't play Barbies as often as she'd like and sometimes after I've been working all day it's hard for her to understand that Daddy just wants to sit down and rest. But we do like to play board games and talk about just about anything under the sun. She is a girl though and she's caught me off guard quite a few times in the last three years. We only do her hair in braids about, hmmm, maybe once a year if that often and the rest of the time we watch football together. Not all too sure if I'm doing okay with what it's like to be a girl with her not getting much input from her mother. But we try and if it's sporadic, well, I just hope it's not completely skewed when she gets older. She's much more outgoing than I have ever been so I'm pretty sure her friends and other acquaintances will help fill in the gaps when it comes to the make-up and hair things. But I can't deny the more private aspects

of a young girl's life, and it seems that I might be a little intimidated as well as very concerned about her knowing the truth. She needs to be able to separate school-yard myth from fact and when it comes to most of that, and well, let's just say when I was in 5th grade they had a separate film for the boys on that day.I have literally been single for the last five years so she's never had much of a female role model to go by. Somehow, I feel that's a failing on my own part. But that's more my issue than anything else. I just never trusted much to allow another person in and the fact that I do have a little girl makes it quite a bit more difficult in meeting someone. Talk about the ultimate baggage, especially for a guy. Anyway, there are times I actually sit here and think about what it is that's missing for her. Dance class, fingernail polish, watching mommy put make-up on in the mirror, and maybe even a less critical shoulder to lean on once in a while. I'm not overly strict, but whenever it came to minor wounds I usually tried to tell her to be tough, rub some dirt

on it and walk it out. Not particularly a womanly reaction, but she's a lot tougher for it. Believe me, this girl's had both of her pinky nails literally ripped of her little fingers at two different times by a door and a man-hole cover and she had less of a hard time with it than I did! Have I stayed single? You bet. Not

that I'm proud of it or anything. Believe me there are times where I feel so alone. But it's just more of a concept of self and having done it for so long that you just can't imagine putting your own problems off on anyone else.
