(3) Necessity of passing ExamillatiOll.c-Subject to the provisions of these.,rules, every TaIathi shall be required to' pass the Examination according to the .,....•provisions of these rules, before he is confIrmed in the post of Y".lath;,..:

(4) Period Gild /lumber of c!Ul/lces for pas!>'ingExaminmiofl.-(l) Every,Talathi appointed ,to the post after tbe appointed date shall be: required to passthe Examination: \vithin a period of f.our years from the date of liis appoint-ment and within three chances." '

(2) Every Talathi appointed before the appointed date, shaH be requitedto pass the Examination within three years from the appointed date and withintwo chan~es, unless he i~ cxemptedfi'om passing the examiniltion under rule 7.- ,- ._-~

(5) C0l1seqllcncc§'6j:fliilure'to pass J:,:';;(.lmi1!atioil.~If a'Ta.}athi who fails topass the Examina.tion.within the time limit and chances specified in rule,4,-

(a),'shallnot, Ulitil-qcpasses the Exaininatibri or. is eX:~mpted fr.om passingthe Examination under Rule 7, be confirmed as Talathi OJ:' be allow~d todraw his next increment in the scaie of Talathi. Incremenx so withheld shaHbecome payable to him with effect from the date on which he passcss theExamination or exempted,him from passing the ExaminatioJat u.nder rule ';arid 'all future increments 'shall accrue as if 110 iricreJ1,1ent is 'withheld. (b) shall lose seniority in the cadre of Talathi that 'is to say that he will beplaced below all those who have passed the Examination befofe him ~ndalso below an those who arc seniortosuch Talathisbe10w wbom he isplaced and who may pass the Examination after him but within the periodand chances specified in rule 4.

(2) A Talathi \vho has attained the age of forty-fIve 'years ontbe :xppointeddate or attains that age thereafter shall be exempted from passing the Exami·nation :-

Provided that, the seniOlity lost hy him in accordance with'the provisionsof clause (b) of rule 5 shall not be restored to him on a~oun.t of suchexemption. '1- ;,-

(9) Consequences when Examination not held.-If for any reason, the Exami- .--1YK:ionis not held in a particular year, that year shall be excluded in computing~ total period of years specified in rule 4.of these rules.

(10) Application Form for appearing Examination.-Every person, whosires to appear fcr the Examination sha11 apply in writing in the Formescribed in Appendix' A ' to the Sub-Divisional Officer (S.D.a.).

:11) Syllabus.-The Syllabus for the Examin&tion and the maximum marksoUed for each paper shall be as mentioned in Appendix 'B' or as the Statewernment may by order from time to time direct.

12) Standardfor passing of Examination.-The standard for passing thetmination shall be 40 per cent of the total marks in each ·paper.

13) Exemptionfro11! appearing ill any paper.-A candidate who fails in thelmination but secures 50 per cent or more marks ·in any paper shall be'mpted from appearing for that paper in his subsequent attempts.

14~ SpecialMerit.-A Talathi who passed the Examination in the first~mpt and secures 70 per cent or more marks in any paper, sha11 be con­ered to have passed the Examination with credit and an entry regardingperformance in that paper shall be recorded in his Confidential Record.

15) Trailling.-Each Talathj shall l1l1dergo the training ofthrce monthsjeh shall be compulsory.
