Regulation 5 states:
(1) Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
(2) Every employer shall ensure that where any machinery has a maintenance log, the log is kept up to date.
PUWER Regulations - Are you compliant? Are your sluice room macerators compliant with the Provision
and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 ?
Vernacare can help you achieve compliance
The ‘efficient state’ of a macerator refers to its general safe condition, for example: having enclosure which is not damaged or broken; no water leaks.
Checking whether a macerator is in ‘efficient working order’ means checking to ensure that everything designed for safety works as it is meant to. This includes: machine properly earthed, lid seal not leaking, safety switches and circuitry operational.
To be ‘in good repair’ a macerator needs to be Periodically Maintained and the results recorded in a maintenance log.
