TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Tarangire Park is located about 120km from Arusha, south east ofManyara. It is home to an incredible number of wildlife, with highconcentrations of elephant, particularly during the months betweenJune and October. These are the dry months, when the gamecongregates along the river, after they have migrated from thegame controlled on the outskirts of the park.

This park is famous for its many Baobab trees, some of which are over a millennia old. These growin the open acacia woodlands. The Maasai are a Ni lotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic people located in Kenyaand northern Tanzania. They speak Maa,a member of the Ni lo-Saharan language family that is

related to Dinka and Nuer.Maasai society is strongly patriarchal in nature, with elder men,sometimes joined by retired elders, deciding most major matters for each Maasai group. A full bodyof oral law covers many aspects of behaviour. Formal execution is unknown, and normally paymentin cattle will settle matters. An out of court process is also practiced called 'amitu', 'to make peace', or'arop', which involves a substantial apology.The Maasai are monotheistic, worshipping a single deity

The Hadza are an ethnic group in north-central Tanzania, living around Lake

Eyasi south of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, in the central Rift Valley, neighboring to SerengetiPlateau. The Hadza number just under 1000. Some 300400 Hadza live as hunter-gatherers, muchas their ancestors have for thousands or even tens of thousands of years; they are the last full-timehunter-gatherers in Africa.

Mount Meru is part of Arusha National Park, a scenic area withmosaic of habitats endowed with varieties of Wildl ifes.Before beginning climbing the Mountain, you

will have an opportunity to spot Cape Buffalos, Maasai Giraffe, Bushbuck,Waterbuck and manyother inside the Park.

MOUNT OLDONYO

Ol doinyo Lengai (pronounced ol doyn-yo len-guy) is an ActiveVolcanic Mountain in the Eastern Rift Valley, and it is home tothe Masai God Eng'ai, who signals her wrath with eruptions anddrought. The name means 'Mountain of God' in the languageof the Maasai people who inhabit this area. Ol doinyo Lengai isa unique and extremely fascinating volcano that towers abovethe East African Rift Valley in Northern Tanzania, just south ofLake Natron. It is located on the way between NgorongoroCrater and the Serengeti and is part of many of our itineraries.

Geologists are particularly interested in Ol doinyo Lengaibecause It is the only volcano in the world that erupts natrocarbonatite lava, a highly fluid lava thatcontains almost no silicon. Oldoinyo Lengai is also the only active volcano in this part of the RiftValley, though there are many older extinct volcanoes in this region. The mountain rises a startl ing2,886 m/ 9,469 ft above the parched Rift Valley floor.

The Mountain is ideal for adventurous travelers who like to explore those unique areas in the world,such as photographers, trekkers and volcano lovers. Nevertheless Ol Doinyo Lengai is considered tobe extremely hazardous and that safety cannot be assured. Trekking takes 1 day; thoughdescending is tough' It is always done with combination with safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
