PROMOTIONMORFITT SMITH
Morfitt Smith may seem like the new estateagent on the block, but the successful localcompany is celebrating its two-yearanniversary, as well as the opening of a brand newbranch, this month.
The first branch was opened in Hillsboroughin 2013, the second at Banner Cross earlier thisyear, whilst the third will be officially launchedin Crookes on 12 September.
All three branches specialise in selling. Notonly do they concentrate on properties in theareas they are based, their reach also extends tosurrounding postcodes, from a new housingdevelopment in Burncross to properties inEckington.
The company may only be two years old, but director andvaluer John Morfitt worked for Reeds Rains for over 20 yearsand has almost 30 years of experience in the Sheffield market.John spends much of his time visiting clients, whilst his co-director Paul Batty is in charge of the day-to-day running in-store. Together, they are dedicated to providing a warmwelcome and a personal service.
For us, its about the quality of our service, says John. Wetreat people like individuals and not like numbers on aspreadsheet.
Whilst many big estate agents are under pressure to hittargets and make a quick sale, Morfitt Smith want every clientto be completely happy before they commit to them. There isno pressure to sign contracts right away and they charge areasonable fee. You will even be offered valuable advice onhow to make your home more attractive to buyers.
A simple change, such as a more neutral colour scheme, canmake a big difference, says John. We had a client who wasstruggling to sell her property. The feedback from the viewerswas that they disliked a particular wall. Once she re-painted it,she managed to get the full asking price.
Morfitt Smith consistently sell houses quickly and theirHillsborough branch currently sell their properties within anaverage of 16 days. Another thing that sets the company apartis the way they market their properties.
We think our marketing is superior to others. We recently
hired a professional writer andphotographer to show homes in their best
light, says John.If you are looking to move into rented accommodation, you
will be pleased to hear that John and his team are equallycommitted to helping you find the right property and to beingthere for you once you have settled in.
Whereas some national companies put you through to a callcentre in another city when you have concerns about yourrented property, Morfitt Smith clients can easily contact or popinto their closest branch. And if you have an emergency afteroffice hours, your call will be forwarded and personally dealtwith by John.
John and Paul and their team are all passionate about whatthey do. Their genuine approach and strong relationships withtheir clients, combined with their years of property expertisethat ensure you will be in safe hands with Morfitt Smith.
Visit their brand new branch in Crookes or one of theirbright and friendly branches in Banner Cross or Hillsboroughtoday. Alternatively, find all their current properties for sale atwww.morfittsmith.co.uk.

From sun-kissed beachceremonies to traditional church
processions, Pulse weighs upthe options of getting married at
home or abroad. By Eleanor Hyde.
Pure white waves break on golden sands, palmtrees provide shade from the blazing sun, yougaze into your partners eyes and utter thoseprecious words... if this sounds like your dreamwedding then going abroad is definitely for you.On the other hand, language barriers and the fear of
coming home to find that your marriage isnt legallybinding are probably things you would much rather avoid.Nevertheless, over 850,000 couples are expected to shunrainy England for nuptials in the sun this year.
The main reasons for this trend seem to be lowercosts, fewer guests (though you do run the risk ofalienating distant cousins) and being able to combine yourwedding with your hen/stag do as well as your honeymoon.
So how easy is it to plan your big day compared tocloser to home?

Case Study 1:Lucy recently married husbandDamian Read in Marmari, Greece
Why did you decide to marry abroad?A lot of our friends had already gotmarried in Sheffield and there are onlyso many available venues in the area.Wed always discussed getting marriedabroad and just wanted something a bitdifferent.
How did friends and family react? My mum was a bit concerned at firstbecause its a big ask for people tocome away for a week when thewedding is only a one-day event, but itwas nice because it ended up just beingpretty-much all family.
Was there anything you had to consider? We had to think about dresses andoutfits, because of the weather, and Iwas a bit nervous about not being ableto view things beforehand like youwould in England. You also dontarrange a lot like booking flowers, hairand makeup until youre there. Butwed been in touch with the weddingcoordinator by email beforehand, andthey do weddings every day, so we hadfaith everything would go to plan.
Case Study 2:Kelly recently married Jonathan Mann atHalifax Hall, Sheffield
Did you ever consider getting married abroad?I would have considered it but Jonathan wantedto marry in Sheffield so we could have a bigwedding and all our family and friends couldcome.
What do you think are the benefits of having aBritish wedding? We were able to plan everything ourselves andcould view venues easily. It also meant we coulduse companies that we knew were reliable. Theflowers were arranged by the same people thatmy sister used for her wedding.
Did you have any concerns about getting married inBritain?I suppose the weather is something you cannever guarantee here, but it couldnt have ruinedour day. When we were having our photographstaken it drizzled a bit, but we really didnt mind;its all just part of it. We had some gorgeousweather on our honeymoon in Florida as well assome tropical storms and had a fantastic time.
Getting married abroadThe best place to start if youre organising a weddingabroad is to contact a travel agent. Winter, beach andluxury weddings are just a few choices, making this aslightly more challenging decision than simplychoosing the local village church.
Once youve decided what sort of wedding youdlike and where, a good travel agency should do theleg work for you, making it almost as easy as saying Ido.
A wedding coordinator is usually included in theholiday wedding package price and, being based inyour chosen hotel or resort, they come fullyequipped with expert local knowledge andinformation about the legalities of getting marriedabroad. Youll be safe in the knowledge that you wontcome home to discover youre still officially single.
Some guests may not be able to afford flights, but itmay well be that a smaller wedding of 15-20 close familyand friends is preferable. By marrying abroad you may even chooseto be generous, partially funding some or all of your guests flights.
So just how much will a wedding abroad set you back? Packages differ in cost depending on where you go, how long you go for and
what is included, but the following two examples show how inexpensive they canbe.
A wedding package available in Mexico including flowers, wine for 40 people, dinner for two, couple massages, a minister and the marriage certificate in the locallanguage starts from 769.
A wedding package for Disneyland Florida including a six-hour limousine service, organist for the ceremony, violinist for the reception, a two-tiered cake, champagne, photographer and flowers, starts from 3,500.
Of course, there will probably be additional costs, but with reports of the averageUK wedding totalling 20,000, its easy to see why weddings abroad are proving sopopular.
Getting married at homeSo what are the advantages of having a
wedding closer to home? The obvious bonusis that you can have a larger wedding inwhich the majority of your family and friendscan attend.
Often when a couple marries abroad, theyfeel obliged to host an at-home reception too,
to include those that werent able to make it.This adds a big cost onto what might have
started as a cheap wedding pointless when youcould have held the wedding at home in the first
place. For those who choose to stay at home but
still want an alternative to the traditionalchurch or registry office, there are manyoptions. Grand stately homes are particularlypopular, as are more relaxed outdoor
weddings, but if you want to go forsomething a bit more unusual, how about a
shark aquarium or a whisky vault? Unsurprisingly, these offbeat options come with
a hefty price tag; a Yorkshire castle costs over 5,000 tohire, and a woodland wedding over 4,000 depending on the add-ons.
Wedding planners in the UK cost around 1,500-2,000 depending on thesize of your wedding. Though they do come with a lot of expert knowledgeand can guide you through every step of the process, ten to 15 per cent ofyour wedding budget is a lot to spend on one person.

Wildflowers and fruit treesprove a hit in the parkChapeltown Parks new wildflower and wild fruit tree orchard hasbeen a hit with visitors this summer. Not only does it put on awonderful show, it also attracts birds, butterflies and other wildlife.
Last autumn, the Friends of Chapeltown Park obtained fundingfrom First TransPennine Express Green Grants and the ForestryCommission to remove the grass, rotivate the area, dig holes forthe wild fruit trees to be planted and supply rubber straps forthem. The flower seeds were obtained from local flower specialistcompany Pictorial Meadows and Graham Taylor of Taylor-Made-Gardens & Landscaping Ltd of High Green was contracted to dothe work.
The ground was prepared in April and, for the following threemonths, wildflower seeds were sown. Eventually, during the firstweek in July, the flowers bloomed and the meadow was soon filled
with a rich mix ofpoppies, cornflowers, fairy toadflax, tickseedand larkspur.
Ecclesfield ParishCouncil has kindlyagreed to award agrant for the Friends topurchase perennialseeds to flower nextyear.
The hybrid mix willcontain 20 speciesincluding yellowchamomile, evening primrose, purple mullein, spike speedwell, babys breath, catchfly and musk mallow. This will be sown thisautumn ready to flower next year and it should then keep comingback year after year.

PROMOTIONKIP MCGRATH
The new school year means yet more changes. Here is a very brief low-down for the lay person on thelatest fixes being applied in our education system this
September. In primary schools, English is no longer literacy, it is English.
There is a strong emphasis on grammar. Children will no longerhave to learn about every genre under the sun, but they willhave to think more deeply about how authors write. As well ashaving good grammar, their spelling will need to improve. There is not much emphasis on speaking and listening despitethe fact that if you cant say it, you cant write it.
Primary maths sees all the confusion of the myriadcalculation methods go (along with calculators). People of acertain age will breathe a sigh of relief that they can nowunderstand what their children (or grandchildren) are doing.
There will be no SATs mental test next year (do I hear a loudcheer from the nations children?). It will be replaced by awritten arithmetic test! There will be much greater emphasison fractions. Expect your children to convert the distance tothe seaside/theme park into kilometres and to understandwhat the Roman numerals on BBC programme credits mean.
Children will also need to know their times tables by the endof year 4 when they become nine years old. There is more, ofcourse, but too much for here.
Anybodywith a 14-year-old childmay knowthat this yearsyear 10 cohortwill bestudying forthe newmaths, Englishlanguage andEnglishliteratureGCSEs. The other subjects come online next September.
Students will be graded from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (thehighest) based on the result of external exams taken at theend of the course after two years in June. Students who wantto resit will be given one chance in the following November.
Maths will become more challenging and there will begreater emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar in allsubjects. The new GCSEs will get harder so they match orexceed other high performing countries.
It will be interesting to see how all this works out. Wouldanyone like to guess when these new changes will bechanged?

PULSELOOKING BACK
We look back tothe days whenyou could treat 60 people towedding tea forjust over a fiver.
C0-OP MEMORIES
Last months picture of EcclesfieldHospital Parade wasnt the only itemsent in by Nigel Womersley of MillRoad in Ecclesfield. This bill from Brightsideand Carbrook Co-operative is for the tea at Nigels late parents wedding inOctober 1937.
It seems almost unbelievable that awedding tea for 60 people would be undersix pounds, said Nigel. My, how times havechanged. Of course, wages have risenenormously since then, as has the cost of living.
The Co-operative opened its first shop inCarbrook in 1868 and went on to run aseries of successful operations acrossSheffield, including the Castle Housedepartment store in the city centre from1929. This closed seven years ago when theSheffield Co-operative Society, as it hadbecome known, merged with the Co-operative Group.
Do you have memories of the Co-operative or Castle House that youwould like to share? Get in touch with editorStephanie Burns on 0114 250 6300 or [email protected] we will print your comments in the next issue.
We would like to receive your old pictures for Looking Back. If you have any that you would like to share, please send them, along with your name and a short description of the photograph, to Pulse Looking
Back, 6 Broadfield Court, Broadfield Business Park, Sheffield S8 0XF, or email them [email protected]. If you would like us to return your photographs, please

A feature of CKB which sets it apart from many of its competitors isthat it manufactures everything on site, giving it a bespoke service. This means it can cater to any needs or desires.
Scott employs a close team of dedicated workers including aregistered electrician, and plumber, as well as qualified plasterer, bricklayers and window fitters, who are all contracted to CKB.
Gloss doors particularly in white and cream are in vogue at thecurrent time. This gives a room a fresh appearance and Scott has seenrequests for this design boom.
Consequently Scott is offeringdeals on an Astro white andcream gloss check in at theshowroom or give him a call formore deals. Scott doesntbelieve in such gimmicks asoffering customers ten per cent offtheir total bill though. These are often used to pull the wool overpeoples eyes. I offer competitive prices from the word go.
Should you contact CKB, Scott will come out to view your home for afree appointment. The visit normally lasts for an hour depending onjob size. I dont give quotes off-the-cuff. I am meticulous when itcomes to pricing, so post-appointment I will go through everythingand provide an accurate, itemised and fair quote.
Scott is the initial point of contact for customers and he not onlydesigns his work but does the fitting too. Once Scott has committed toa job he dedicates all his time to it from inception to completion. Heguarantees that he will not be working on multiple projects at onetime and is even willing to turn down work to be able to do this. Mycustomers like to know that I will always be there and that they havemy undivided attention. That is the least they deserve and will getwhen they come to me. As such his customers can contact him 24hours a day, seven days a week.
Doors and worktops are guaranteed for a decade but for extra peaceof mind Scott ensures that payment comes in instalments and that thefull fee is not paid until the job has been completed satisfactorily.
For a company that will provide your home with undivided, specialist and bespoke attention, give CKB a call today!
From a replacement worktop to a whole new kitchen or bedroom, theres no job too small for CKB.

Bye bye barbecue, a curry at Butlers Balti House is just the job.
Words and photography: Richard Abbey
Hot summer days made for barbecuesand beer gardens are already afading memory as the nights drawin and autumn takes hold, so a curry is justthe job to help keep the growing chill in theair at bay.
On our early Saturday evening visit toButlers Balti House, we sat down amongcouples, families and large parties whowere all tucking in to dinner.
The large Broad Lane venue is light andstylish, with lots of ebony and chrome togive it a contemporary edge. Theres a smallbar and waiting area but we headedstraight to our table in the restaurant, whichwas busy already.
One thing we noticed immediately wasthe number of staff; more than enough tomaintain your attention throughout theevening. Our drinks orders were quicklytaken while we perused the extensivemenu.
Butlers, unsurprisingly given their name, specialise in balti dishes which aretraditional north Indian dishes cooked incast iron pots. The restaurant take things astep further by serving your curry in thesedishes, which adds a nice touch of theatreto your meal (they do seem to keep yourcurry nice and hot too).
After crunching our way through apoppadom or two, we started withrecommended dishes of tandoori fish and amixed starter. The fish, haddock on thisoccasion, was firm and meaty and notoverpowered by the tandoori spices. A nice, light dish to start. The mixed starterconsisted of a spicy seekh kebab, pieces ofchicken tikka, onion bhaji and finger-licking
tandoori chicken wings. For mains we were again happy to be
steered by our waiter and owner SajidQuader who recommended a new additionto the menu Arabian lamb. It was afragrant dish of lamb fillet, mushrooms, cream, fresh mint and coriander. It wasdelicious; light, fresh and with just the rightamount of spice.
We also shared a special jalfrezi whichhad just the right amount of kick tocomplement a very rich, tasty sauce withchicken tikka, lamb, prawns and kingprawns. Pilau rice and a garlic naan breadwere more than adequate sundries.
Since moving to the Broad Lane
premises, the Butlers empire has continuedto grow. Youll now find an equally big firstfloor space to complement the mainrestaurant which is largely used forconferences and private parties (or extraspace if the restaurant is particularly busy).
Butlers have enhanced their takeawayservice with the introduction of an app, meaning you can order and pay for foodfor delivery or collection at the touch of a button.
The night was still young as we left therestaurant, which was continuing to getbusier. On this evidence, who needsbarbecues and beer gardens when you canenjoy a good old curry?
