Hello! I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well. It looks like winter is on its way out or at least I this is what I’m hoping. I guess we really cannot complain too much though, it has been a fairly mild winter for the most part. We may still get another surprise or two and get some more snow in parts of the United States. Please continue to be safe and watch out for the weather.

The past couple of months have been extremely busy and our freight volumes have been strong. We are only in the First Quarter and I cannot

imagine what the Second Quarter will look like, as well as the rest of the year!

We have been receiving some of our new tractors and trailers for the past two months. These are replacing the 2015 Series tractors as well as the S5 Series tractors. By the end of this year we will have replaced all of these trucks.

On February 5/6th, our VP of Sales, Rick Watkins, suffered a stroke. Rick is now at home and doing outpatient therapy to get back into shape. Rick has been a trooper and working hard to make a comeback. For those of you that were aware of this, Rick thanks you for your prayers and asks that you continue. For those of you that did not know, I ask that you pray for Rick as he recovers.

In closing, I want to thank all of you for all that you do for DHT. I pray that God keeps each of you, and those around you, safe in every mile that you travel.

Keep on Trucking Safely!!!

Joe

Joe Herman, Presidentof DHT

1 2A Word From Our President Operations & Sales

2018 - Off to a Great Start

2018 has started out strong overall. We have seen a little softness on the West Coast due to Chinese New Year but as of this writing that seems to be ending. For those that may not be aware, the Chinese New Year is a month-long celebration and for approximately 10 to 14 days the country stops working. This causes shipments from China to ports in California to dry up for a week or so resulting in less freight

coming out of the state. When the economy in the U.S. is good, it is not felt as strongly, so this year’s effect was light.

I wanted to remind everyone that we no longer require you to weigh every load. If a load is 25,000 pounds or less, you do not have it weighed, however, if you have any doubts, then please go ahead and weigh the load. We do ask that you are more careful on loads that come out of Mexico and ensure the weight is not in kilos.

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | January / February 2018

We are currently in the process of trading in the 2015-year model trucks and continuing to trade in older trailers for new ones. This will be an ongoing process through the year, and we look forward to improving the age of our fleet which in turn should cost you less down time for maintenance issues. We strive to have the best equipment on the road and will continue to move forward with fleet upgrades.

In closing I would like to discuss resets. These cause a lot of confusion in our industry and in my opinion can waste drive time over the long run. There is a time that a reset it valuable. It is typically where you will have 6 or less hours over a two-day period or when your available hours will not allow you to arrive to a place to park safely due to a low, two-day total. We encourage you to only use the reset when you are extremely low on hours as mentioned above. What we are seeing is drivers taking a reset when they have 6 hours or more to run. This in turn causes them to come up against an issue on a weekend where they must have downtime for a place to open on Monday. More times than not, you will gain hours back by either rolling back to days you ran good hours or by having some downtime here and there waiting to load and unload. The best advice I can give you is to always keep in mind that someone will eventually waste some of your drive time so the 6 hours or more you can run over a couple of days is 300 miles that you will miss and can possibly gain more while dealing with the ins and outs of our industry.

I hope all of you have gotten off to a great start in 2018, and I look forward to sharing a successful year with you all.

Spring is Coming SoonHello all, I hope this newsletter finds you and your families well.

It looks as if we may have some signs of spring coming; however, we are still getting a few winter storms come through from time to time. I have

noticed a warming trend, at least for the TN Valley area for the next couple weeks.

With that said, Spring is coming soon and we will have a few challenges. First, with warmer weather, we will see enforcement up and doing more inspections and spot checks. Make sure you are obeying all the traffic laws and have your paperwork in order which will prevent any issues or citations. Secondly, more people will be out and about getting out of the house after the cold winter months. Pay attention to traffic around you and watch out for the other guy.

With Spring comes the rain, thunderstorms and tornados. This is not a time to let your guard down just because it is not snow and ice. Rain and hydroplaning can be just as bad, if not worse, than snow and ice. Slow down in rain and/or wet roads with recent rain. It does not take much to hydroplane and loose control of

your unit. We don’t want anyone getting hurt, including the people with whom you share the road. Make sure you are doing good pre- and post-trip inspections and checking those tires. Good tread on tires will help in the rain and checking the tire pressure will help lessen the blow-outs when it gets hot out there. It takes a lot less time to do a good inspection than it takes for road service to come out while you are sitting on the side of the road.

Fog can also be a problem in the spring months. If you are in foggy conditions and it is unsafe to drive, find a safe place off the highway to park until the conditions improve. If you can’t see, you can’t drive. The same with dust storms which occur mainly out west. If you see a dust storm coming, get off the highway and let it pass before continuing. We all have seen others that have stopped in the roadway during a rain storm, dust and fog. Don’t let yourself be put in that position where an accident can happen because of these conditions. Remember, you are the Professional Driver.

Thank you all and please drive safe. As always, if we can do anything to help you, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here for you; we are your support group.

Thanks

Steve E Frantz, VP of Safety

Maintenance

Spring is Near

I am very glad that Winter is on the way out and Spring is near! We have taken a few punches over these winter months, but sheet metal can be replaced. With winter moving out, Trucking usually has a few easy weeks before it gets really hot. Just like we advised in the fall, be sure to test your A/C equipment, APU,

bunk and cab. We are happy to change any old filters or do a systems check for you anytime. We are also making

great headway on getting the PM services down below 1% over due. Thanks for the team work on working toward that goal. We are off to a good start in 2018, lots of great things are going on at DHT. Remember, the Maintenance Department works for the whole company so we can run many safe miles! We are proud to serve, and hopes God blesses the whole team.

Faith Den Elzen 2/2018

Love your trucks specifically the one with FAITH and Philippians 4.13 on the back. Do you know why? Because that’s my name and my favourite verse. Yes, I’ve had to move many mountains in my life. There’s been time when I nearly gave up. But it wasn’t till I gave my life to God when I was baptized that then He moved them. Yes Philippians 4.13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. He is my Rock on which I stand, my Lord and Saviour and it’s by faith that I will and can overcome and move those mountains I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus AMEN

Joan Wagner 01/17/2018

Just passed one of your trucks on our way to Indianapolis and noticed the “Faith” scripture on the back. Googled your company for more information and saw how ministry based you are. God bless you for your ministry!! Your testimony encouraged our hearts!!
