PSYCHOLOGY AQA A Level Psychology Code: AQA A-Level Psychology Taught hours per week: 6 hours Course contact: Ms C Hodgson [email protected] Course Content Unit 1 Social Psychology (conformity, obedience, majority influence, minority influence, social change, conforming to social roles) Memory (Long term memory, short term memory, sensory memory, explanations of forgetting, the working memory model, the multi-store model, factors affecting the accuracy of eye witness testimonies, the cognitive interview technique) Attachment (caregiver-infant interactions, animal studies including that of Lorenz and Harlow, explanations of child attachments, testing attachment type using the strange situation, cultural variations in attachment, Bowlby’s theory of maternal deprivation, the influence of attachment type on adult relationships) Unit 2 Approaches in Psychology (Learning approach, cognitive approach, biological approach, psychodynamic approach (A-Level only), humanistic approach (A-Level only) and Biopsychology (AS and extended for A-Level) Psychopathology (Defining abnormality, the characteristics, explanations and treatments of OCD, depression and phobias) Research Methods (Analysis of the types of research studied in psychology. Includes a 10% compulsory maths content of data analysis. Extended at A-Level to include inferential statistics and scientific processes) Unit 3 Biopsychology (The nervous system, the structure and function of sensory, relay and motor neurones, the function of the endocrine system, the fight or flight response including the role of adrenaline, brain functioning, ways of studying the brain, biological rhythms) Issues and Debates in Psychology (Analyse. interpret and evaluate psychological theories, concepts and research studies) Assessment All three A-Level exams are 2 hours each are equally weighted at 33.3% Possible Careers in Psychology Criminal Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, Child Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Cognitive Neuroscientist, Counsellors, Sport Psychologist. Course Content

Unit 1 • Social Psychology

(conformity, obedience, majority influence, minority influence, social change, conforming to social roles)
