Dr Esperanza Naredo

MD, PhD

Dr Esperanza Naredo is a world leading Consultant Rheumatologist and Ultrasonographer at the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Madrid, Spain. She completed her training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the Autonoma University, Madrid, Spain in 1994. She subsequently pursued her training in musculoskeletal ultrasound under Professor M.van Holsbeeck at the Department of Radiology, Henry Ford Hospital Detroit, Michigan, USA. Upon returning to her home country in 1996, Dr Naredo founded the Ultrasound School of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology. Dr Naredo received her PhD with the thesis “Assessment of inflammatory activity with ultrasound in rheumatoid arthritis” and holds a Level 3 of Competency in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound by EFSUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology).

She is a member of several faculties like the EULAR Sonography Courses since 1998, a member of the Working Group for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, EULAR, since 2000 and is also a member and co-chair of the OMERACT group for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound since October 2003 and May 2008 respectively. Dr Naredo has been part of the EULAR Standing Committee on Musculoskeletal Imaging since June 2008 and is currently the chair. She is part of the steering committee for Targeted Ultrasound Initiative (TUI). She has published over 130 articles and written over 35 book chapters concerning musculoskeletal ultrasound to date, and also a reviewer for the indexed International Journals of Rheumatology and Associate Editor of the International Journal BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Dr Ramani Arumugam

Dr Ramani Arumugam is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist at Serdang Hospital, Selangor, Malaysia. She was trained as a Rheumatologist in Malaysia and at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, United Kingdom. Her special interest is in Spondyloarthritis and she spent a year in the UK participating in research. Dr Arumugam has published in peer reviewed journals. She is passionate in creating awareness for Spondyloarthritis in Malaysia and gives numerous lectures on the subject to the public as well as to fellow colleagues both locally and internationally. The first Malaysian database for psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis has been initiated in Serdang Hospital and is up and running. She currently holds the position of honorary lecturer in Internal Medicine for Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) and also enjoys teaching other medical officers.

Dr Nor Shuhaila Shahril

Dr Nor Shuhaila Shahril is a Consultant Physician & Rheumatologist at Putrajaya Hospital, Putrajaya, Malaysia. She graduated from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1998 and obtained her Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (United Kingdom) in 2004. She has been serving as a Rheumatologist after completing her fellowship training since 2010. She is a Honorary Lecturer in Internal Medicine for Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS).

Dr Nor Shuhaila is the Targeted Ultrasound Initiative (TUI) representative for Malaysia, a Committee Member of Malaysian Targeted Ultrasound Initiative (TUI) Group and secretary of Malaysian Society of Rheumatology (MSR). She is actively involved in musculoskeletal ultrasound in Rheumatology and has authored numerous scientific papers.
