As we prepare for 2018, we have decided to make a few changes to the structure of primary classes at Proston State School P – 10. Next year, the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 classes will all be separate classes. There will be a 3/4 class and a 5/6 class. This will balance out some of our class sizes and allow for a more individualised approach to early childhood education which will hopefully lead to better educational outcomes and set students up for greater success as they move through middle and upper primary and then through to junior secondary. The class structures, teachers and classrooms for 2018 will be as follows: Principal – Miss Liz Cumming HOC – Miss Liz Gundry Master Teacher – Miss Katrina Hayward SWD (Students with Disabilities) teacher – Beth Stanley Prep – Mrs Sue Jones in the prep room Year 1 – Miss Pip Linton in G Block Year 2 – Mrs Traci Holland in K Block Year 3 & 4 – Mrs Peta Clarke in A Block Year 5 & 6 – Mrs Stacy Love in A Block The secondary teachers will be Mr Mark Eisenmenger, Mr Joe Amery, Mr Nick Blanch, Miss Katrina Hayward and we will potentially see the return of Mrs Selena Salter (to be confirmed in 2018). LLI (Levelled Literacy Intervention program) - Mrs Rose Cook Library – Ms Fiona Gill Music – Mrs Ginny Salmon Teacher aides will be confirmed in 2018. Chappy’s Chat Hi All, The end of year is upon us and the holidays are coming up very quickly. Congratulations to all award recipients at our recent Awards Night and also to the choir who did such a great job of their song! Well done everyone. The last few weeks of school will go so quickly now. This week I want to share another of my favourite lunch box recipes; Deep fried meatballs. They are fun to make with the kids and yummy to eat for school lunch or any time. They are full of vitamins, minerals and protein which are the building blocks for our children to grow strong and healthy. Children are continually growing and this means that they need to eat the right type of foods on a daily basis. You can also save yourself so much money if you plan a little bit ahead. The meatballs are much more economical than buying packaged snack foods, and healthier too. Give them a try! Chappy Janelle

ITD – Construction Students have completed their practical assessment task this week. Our Thursday group completed a 2.7m x 2.7m concrete slab that will serve the purpose of a discus area. They have also concreted 6 post holes with a sleeve to drop posts in for a safety cage to help out the PE department allowing Mr. A the opportunity to teach the discus turn in a safe way when running his PE classes. The Friday group poured a 2.3m x 2.3m concrete slab to be used as a second shot put area. This will allow for events to be completed with more efficiency during sporting carnivals. Both groups learnt how to ratio the materials and mix consistent batches in a concrete mixer. Some statistics from the combined efforts of both groups major construction project:

Two electric concrete mixers used Just short of 2 cubic meters of pre mix aggregate shoveled into the mixers 18 bags of 20 kg cement bags used 5m x 2.4m of reinforcing used Over 30 batches of concrete mixed Approx. 4 hours to complete both projects, with a total of 28 man-hours.

Thank you to the following boys for putting in a 110% effort and showing how learning can be hard but enjoyable and rewarding: Lachie, Colby, Aaron, Dylan, Blake, Josh, Brendan, Jakob, Jett & Aiden. Thanks also to Mr. Hams and Mr. Hoyland for supporting students through this project.

The Nightmare Before Squidmas Part 1 Since the dawn of time or anything before it a distant universe was made, a land called Cybertronain; it is the second most important thing in the universe as it made the big bang. Now hundreds and hundreds of years later modern Earth was finally made as well as a planet in the Cybertronain galaxy called the Cyberverse. This is a happy planet of people, human people with some animals and one of those recently became a hero, Stampy Cat. Now he just wants to go back to his old life as an ordinary Joe by celebrating Squidmas with his friends by making snow golems, riding the mechanical reindeer, drinking eggnog and failing how to spell Santa’s name in the love garden. This Squidmas he also got a new friend to share his Squidmas traditions, Blake the target, a strange thing dressed up in a fancy tux. Now that Squidmas Eve was almost over they hung up their leather boot stockings and they dozed off to sleep, but they were not expecting an unwanted guest, a black and white cat with a fish sword and a dark and evil laugh. He was Stampy’s evil twin ……. EVIL STAMPY CAT, (all

the other names were taken). He looked up into the dark sky. He saw the red and green lights racing across the cloudy sky and then it suddenly crashed right in front of him and the reindeers tried to run but then the dark cat took the chains away and they ran into the fog and Evil Stampy Cat threw Santa out of the sleigh and laughed. To be continued By Blake

Daniel Morcombe Program: Report This week we are starting to implement the final key message of the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum: report. This means that when children or young people have been in a situation that is unsafe that they are taught to report what has happened to an adult. Even if a child has been able to make themselves safe, it is vital that they still report what has happened. Adults need to know about unsafe situations so that some action can be taken to help the child be safe again or ensure it doesn’t happen again. Students involved in the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum will be encouraged to make a list of adult safety helpers. These are adults the children and young people nominate whom they can talk to when they are feeling unsafe or have experienced an unsafe situation or feel they are at risk of something that may cause them harm. This list will include a selection of adults who live in and outside the home. Report also includes telling an adult about unsafe or inappropriate incidents which may occur when children or young people are online. This might occur when surfing the net or using social media sites like Facebook and twitter, and can include cyberbullying, viewing or receiving inappropriate images or messages or communicating with unknown contacts.

Production Mangement Elective Mrs Clarke and the Production Management Elective have been working on a Shadow Puppet Theatre. Recently they performed an impromptu production of “The Evil Dinosaur versus The Beautiful Unicorn” for the e-Kindy students. They really enjoyed it and asked for an encore!

Star News Star News We have been working on our Design and Technology unit. Students worked hard to design a toy that was suitable for a Prep student. Students had to draw their plan and write a list of the supplies that they would need when creating their design. Students then built and made their toy. Students then took their toy to Prep and received feedback after the Prep students played with their toy. There was a range of interesting toy designs. Some of the toys they created were marble mazes, fairy houses, hover CD and princess castles. Books will start to be sent home next week so your child’s bags are not too heavy in the last week of school. Please let Mrs Holland know if you are planning to leave for the holidays early so Mrs Holland can pack books and personal items. Mrs Holland
