Dear Aspirant students,
Welcome to Nagaland University family.
Nagaland University is one of the forty Central Universities of thecountry having four campuses; Lumami (HQ), Meriema (KohimaCampus), Medziphema (School of Agricultural Science and RuralDevelopment) and Dimapur (School of Engineering and Technology). It is our privilege andpleasure to invite every aspiring student to become part of the University academia in theState of Nagaland. The beaconing beauty of all four campuses blesses and grooms each andevery one under it inculcates value, humbleness and positive vibes to each and every member.
The prospectus will guide on the courses offered by the University. There are 36 postgraduate disciplines offering Master's and Ph.D programmes in Arts, Commerce, and Sciencesincluding Agricultural Science and Management. Duration of the PG Program is two years.The University also offers B.Sc. Agriculture and B.Tech. programs in 5 disciplines; the durationof which is 4 years.
University faculty members are friendly and supportive. Our expectation is that you woulddevote your time and energy delicately to make yourself knowledgeable and skilled to serveyour motherland and more efficiently, provided you are selected for a seat.
University has made all out efforts to create necessary infrastructural facilities in all fourcampuses to provide a comfortable atmosphere. Infrastructure such as modern classrooms,libraries with standard books and journals, internet connectivity, computer centres, practicaland research laboratories, modern equipment and implements, boys and girls hostels, concreteand tarred roads, drinking water facility, canteens, auditorium with 900 sitting capacity at itsHeadquarters Lumami, Bank (SBI) and Post Office in the campuses, gymnasium, play grounds,etc. are some of the amenities created for students and campus dwellers.

NAGALAND UNIVERSITY
The Nagaland University Act was passed by the Parliament Vide No. 35.1989 andestablished in 1994 as a Central University. The University has Kohima Campus at Meriema,Agricultural (SASRD) Campus at Medziphema and Engineering and Technology (SET) atDimapur. The Headquarter has been functional since 2010 at Lumami. The campuses arenetworked with a 100 Mbps connection through National Knowledge Network. Currently,there are six Schools and forty Departments.
Mission
"The University shall disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional andresearch facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to make provision for integratedcourses in humanities, natural and physical sciences, social sciences, agricultural sciences,disciplines in the education and forestry and other allied programmes of the university, and totake appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process, inter-disciplinary studies and research to educate and train manpower for the development of thestate of Nagaland and, to pay special attention to the improvement of the social economicconditions and welfare of people of the state; their intellectual and cultural development.”

ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHYPROGRAMME (Ph. D):
Admission and Eligibility:
The admission to the Ph. D Programme is done at the beginning of new Academic Session,Candidates with at least 55% marks in the master degree in the relevant subject are requiredto appear for an entrance test followed by interview which will be conducted by the respectivedepartments. Candidates will be selected according to merit, determined after giving suitableweightage to the following:
1 (a) (i) Persons with M. Phil Degree from this University
(ii) Students securing an average “A” grade of 60% and above in the course workof M. Phil Programme of this University
(iii) Percentage of marks in Master Degree or equivalent (at-least 50% in case SC/ST candidates)
(iv) Performance in the test and interview
(b) Candidates qualifying in any of the National Eligibility Test (NET) recognized by theUGC will also be considered for selection
(c) Subject to availability of seats, candidates belonging to the following categories andpossessing a master degree may also be admitted on the recommendation of theDepartment
i. Recognized regular employees of NU
ii. Teachers of colleges affiliated to this University possessing a Master's degreewith an experience of at least 3 years of continuous service
iii. Person with M. Phil degree from other recognized Universities
iv. Person who has completed at least three years of research in a research laboratory/Institute
v. Person having Master degree in the relevant subject and at least 9 (nine) yearsexperience in administration, Management and specialized knowledge in theproposed field of research to the satisfaction of the department concerned
vi. Person who has completed at least one year of research in a University/Institutionafter his/her registration, provisional or otherwise under the supervision of ateacher, who may have since joined the University. Relaxation for SC/STcandidates will be given as per UGC guidelines.

(d) Full time research scholar will be given preference
(e) Person with JRF would be given preference
(f) Full time to part time scholar under any guide would be in the ratio of 3:1 and amaximum number of scholars should not exceed under a Professor 8, AssociateProfessor 6 and Assistant Professor 4
Note: Further, it may be noted that the procedure for the admission and award of Ph. DDegree shall be made in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure forawards of M. Phil/Ph. D Degree) Regulation, 2016 and the ordinance of the NagalandUniversity. Subsequent amendments in the University Ordinance/UGC guidelines, if any, shallbe followed as and when such changes are made/ notified.

ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR THE MASTER OF PHILOSOPHYPROGRAMME (M. Phil)
Admission and Eligibility:
The admission to the M. Phil Programme is done at the beginning of new academic session.
Candidates with at least 55% (50% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST) marks inthe master degree in the subject concerned need to appear for an entrance test followedby interview which will be conducted by the respective department(s) offering the course.Candidates will be selected according to merit, determined after giving suitable weightageto the following:
(i) Percentage of marks in Master Degree or equivalent (at-least50% weightage)
(ii) Performance in the test and/or interview
The admission will be finalized on the basis of the number of seats available and performanceof the candidate. A candidate will be assigned a Supervisor by the department at the time ofadmission.
Further, it may be noted that the procedure for the admission and award of M. PhilDegree shall be made in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure forawards of M. Phil/Ph. D Degree) Regulation, 2016 and the ordinance of the NagalandUniversity. Subsequent amendments in the University Ordinance/UGC guidelines, if any, shallbe followed as and when such changes are made/ notified. The M. Phil candidate has to be afull time scholar of the concerned department.
ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR POST GRADAUTE COURSES
Admission and Eligibility:
It is the policy of the Nagaland University to offer equal educational opportunities to all qualifiedpersons, provided the following conditions are fulfilled by the applicant. Eligible students for Major streams (internally or externally) will be given preference over
General stream.
An applicant must have passed three-year Degree Course with Honours/Major with 50%marks and for General stream students of Arts, Commerce and science with 55% in theconcerned subject in which admission is sought.

5% marks relaxation for SC/ST category will be considered.
Applicants who have graduated from Colleges (Private/Govt./Autonomous) affiliated toNagaland University shall be entitled to 10% weightage of bonus marks over others. Forinstance, a candidate who had passed out from any college affiliated to Nagaland Universitywith 60% marks in graduation will get 6% as additional weightage and his/her totalpercentage will become 66% while drawing the merit index of selection.
The number of seats available for admission to each Department will depend upon seatsauthorized by the University.
The distribution of seats in the Post-Graduate courses in the University shall be asfollows:
Schedule Tribes (ST) - 45%
SC/ST category - 10%
OBC/ ST - 07%
General - 25%
Persons with Disability (PWDs) - 3%
Sports' quota - 3%
Employees' quota - 7%
GUIDELINES:-
1. Application for admission under Sports' quota and Employees' quota should be routedthrough the respective Head of Department and Departmental Admission Committee.
2. Spouse may be included under Employees' quota besides children.
3. When the seats reserved for different categories candidates are not filled, the same maybe allotted to the ST candidates. However, due care should be taken to ensure that theeligibility of deserving candidates under various categories are accommodated before theseats are allotted to STs.
