The Fakir Mohan University, Vyasa Vihar, Balasore was established by theGovernmentofOrissa,underSection32oftheOrissaUniversitiesAct,1989(Act5of1989) and it was notified vide the Government’s Notification No. 973 dated 3rdJuly,1999.TheUniversityhasalsobeendulyrecognizedbytheUGCundersection2(f)oftheUGCAct by the notification No. F-9-1/2000 (CPP-I), dated 11th February 2000 as well as undersection12(B),videUGCletterno.F.9-1/2000(CPP-I)dated23rdDecember,2005.IthasalsobeenaccreditedbytheAssociationofIndianUniversities,videtheirletterNo.Meet:SC:261:2K/108693,dated22ndAugust,2000.TheUniversityisfunctioningfromitspresentcampusatVyasaViharandalsotheNewcampusatNuapadhi.AlltheP.G.Departments of the University are computer based. Computing facility located in the Department of Information and CommunicationTechnology. As a ‘O’ level facility, 100 Nos. of Pentium-IV PC, 2 Nos. of high end Servers, Scanner, Digital Camera, Printers and a good number of applicationsoftwares have been installed for the benefit of the students,teachers and research scholars of the University. Internet with e-mail and browser facilities have beenprovided to thestudents.Lookingat thepresentdayneed, softwares likeJAVA,ORACLE, VISUAL Basic.NET, etc. have been kept open for the benefit of the students. FacilitiesalsoexistforusingvariouslanguagessuchasC,C++,HTML,COBOL,BASIC,MS-ACCESSandFORTRAN-90/95invariousoperatingenvironmentlikeWINDOWS-98,2000,XP,NTRedHat,LINUX.

♦ The Vehicle Shed The University has constructed the Vehicle shed to provide protection to the 2

♦ Central Library TheCentralLibraryoftheFakirMohanUniversitywasestablishedintheyear1999.
ThelibraryisnamedasDr.HarekrushnaMahatabLibraryon11thJuly2005inthememory of Late Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, a great freedom fighter and ex-chief minister of Orissa who hails from this locality.The library is quite well equippedanditismanagedbytheLibraryCommittee,constitutedasperthestatuteoftheUniversity.Atpresentthetotalnumberofbooksinthelibraryisabove23,518.About144 Journals and periodicals have been subscribed. Students are provided withonereadingroominthelibrarytomakeuseofreferencework,etc.Theday-to-dayfunctioningof the library is lookedafterby theLibrarianunder thesupervisionofthe Director, Dr. H.K.Mahatab Central Library. Internet facilities and repographicfacilitiesareavailableinthelibrary.
2. RECREATIONAL / LEISURE TIME FACILITIES AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS IN THE CAMPUS
♦ University Students’ Cultural Council ThereisaCulturalCouncilforthePGstudentsoftheUniversity.Itsexecutive
Committee consists of 2 members (from each Department) who elect /selectaGeneralSecretaryandanAssistantGeneralSecretaryfromamongthemselves. The Chairman, P.G. Council is the President of the CulturalCouncil.OneseniorfacultymemberistheVice-PresidentoftheCouncil.TheVice-PresidentadvisestheStudentsCulturalCouncilandconductsvariousevents/programmes.
♦ The University Canteen The University has a canteen which is being managed by a private party. The
UniversityhasprovidedthenecessaryinfrastructurerequiredfortheCanteen.TheCanteenissupervisedbyacommittee.Thiscommitteetakescareofthestandardoffood,costofthefooditemsandgeneralcleanlinessofthesurroundings.
♦ Health Insurance TheUniversityhasaninsuranceschemeforthestudentsknownasJanataPersonal
Accident (JDA) offered by Naitonal Insurance Company Ltd. All the studentsadmittedinto1stSemesterarebroughtundertheinsurancecoverage.Theinsurancecoverageisvalidfor2years(FourSemester).

3. HEALTHY PRACTICES FOLLOWED IN THE UNIVERSITY ♦ Personal Advisory System StudentsofallPGDepartmentsareundertheadvisoryresponsibilityof teachers
oftheconcernedDepartment.Eachteacher(excepttheHOD)takesresponsibilityof a group of students of his / her Department and keeps a vigilant eye on thestudentsallottedtohim/herandguidessuchstudentscurrricularandcocurricularactivities.
♦ Evaluation of teachers by students TheUniversityhasacceptedtheUGCguidelinesrelatingtoevaluationofteachers
by thestudents.Necessaryassessment formatwaspreparedandtheevaluationofteachersbystudentswasmaderegularlysince2005.Itisconductedtwiceinanacademicsession.
♦ Anti-ragging TheUniversityhasconstitutedananti-raggingcommittee todealwith ragging in
theUniversity.Thecommitteeconductssurprisevisittovulnerablepointsandalsoregularlymonitorsthesituationinthecampus,hostelsetc.Further,atthetimeofinduction session, the authority apprises the students of dire consequences ofraggingandadvisesthestudentstomaintaindisciplineinthehostels,campusetc.TheUniversityalsodecidesthat ifanyincidentofraggingcomestothenoticeoftheauthorityconcerned,theaccusedstudentwillbegivenanoppertunitytoexplainand if his explanation is not satisfactory, the authority would expel him from theinstitutionaswellashostelifheisaboarder.
4. TRAINING AND PLACEMENT CELL ♦ Vocational Training It isanessentialcomponentinanyprofessionaleducation.AsthisUniversityhas
openedsevenregularprofessional/technicalcourses,theneedforatrainingandplacementcellisobviousforthestudents.ThecellhasstarteditsworktocontactindustriesthroughoutIndiaforthesummertraining/projectworkofthestudents.AseniorfacultymemberislookingaftertheTrainingandPlacementCell.
TheCellhastakenupcareerguidanceforstudentsandarrangedCampusInterviews.IthasalsoarrangedEntrepreneurshipMotivationCampforthestudentstotakeupEntrepreneurshipasanalternativecareer.

6. (1) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION INTO REGULAR P.G. COURSES
A. Subject to the specific provisions mentioned against each course, in order to be eligible for admission into any Post-Graduate course, a candidate shouldhave passed three year Degree Examination inArts/Sciences/ Commerce ofF.M.UniversityoranyexaminationrecognizedequivalenttheretobyAcademicCouncilwithHonoursintheconcernedsubjectorhavingtheconcernedsubjectasapass/electivesubjectwith50%marksintheaggregate.
B. Candidateswhohaveappearedat thequalifyingexaminationsandtheresultsofwhichareawaitedarealsoeligibletoapply.However,theyhavetosubmittheProvisional Certificate and Mark Sheet of the qualifying examinations before the EntranceTest,otherwisetheircasesforselectionshallnotbeconsidered.
C. IncaseacandidatewantstoapplyforadmissiontomorethanoneDepartment,he /she can do so in filling up separate forms on payment of required fees and appearingattestsconductedbytheconcernedDepartment.

a) Graduates with Honours in Biological/ Chemical/ Physical/ MathematicalScienceswithBiologyat+2level.
b) GraduatesinBiological/Chemical/Physical/MathematicalScienceswithpasssubjects with 50% marks in aggregate, excluding ancillary and foundationcoursesandshouldhaveBiologyat+2level.
c) Graduatesas in (a)and (b)shownasabove] includingMedical/Agriculture/Pharmacology/MarineBiologyandEngineeringareeligible foradmission toBiotechnology.
II. ENVIRONEMNTAL SCIENCES: a) Graduates with Honours in Agricultural Science / Marine Science &
Oceanography/ Marine Engineering / Botany / Chemistry / EnvironmentalScience /EnvironmentalEngineering /Geology/Physics/Zoology/Forestry/MicroBiology/Mathematics.
