1 Proposal for a Climate-KIC Master Class 2013 Lean Startup Thinking by Bernhard Doll | [email protected] Summary Participants will gain hands-on experience on how to prototype, validate and implement innovative business models, products and services with a “lean” development approach. After the 2 days session, participants will be able to identify critical hypotheses in their innovative business models, products services, to build prototypes and run business experiments (with simple means), to design minimum viable business models, products and services, and to manage “lean” implementation projects under conditions of high uncertainty. The Master Class will be a mix of input presentations, short break-out sessions, case studies and intense group work sessions, in which participants are invited to experience various tools, methods and materials, from paper prototyping, large-scale posters as “shared spaces”, LEGO Serious Play to software-based tools for virtual team collaboration and crowd sourcing. Participants The Master Class has been designed for people, who already have a concrete business idea and are interested in proven, hands-on tools to prototype, validate and implement innovative and environmentally conscious business models, products and services, e.g. Entrepreneurs, Senior Executives, Business developers, R&D managers, Innovation managers, and Innovation consultants. Participants should be able to pitch their existing business ideas in front of the audience. Toolbox Every participant will receive a personal toolbox that can be used even after the Master Class. The toolbox contains a handbook with descriptions and how-to guidelines for all methods used in the sessions, high- resolution templates and a free 1-year license for the collaboration software “Rapid Modeler” (www.rapidmodeler.de) upon request. Facilitator The Master Class will be led by Bernhard Doll. He is Managing Director of Orange Hills GmbH, a Munich-based consulting company focused on prototyping, agile strategy, service and business modeling and the development of software-based innovation tools. Over the last 15 years, Bernhard has founded, facilitated and supported a series of startups, including Webmiles AG, SiteForce AG and Interhyp AG (IPO 2005). Apart from his entrepreneurial activities, he has been researching in a range of national and international initiatives. His current research focus is on prototyping, agile innovation management and team development. He is also a passionate lecturer for entrepreneurship, design and innovation management at universities, including TUM Business School / UC Berkeley, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg and University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg and Wels (Upper Austria). In addition, he is a research fellow at the Center for Leading Innovation & Corporation of Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) and the Peter-Pribilla-Foundation, member of the Academy of Management (AoM), European Academy of Management (EURAM) and a certified facilitator for LEGO™ Serious Play. He has studied Software Engineering (Dipl.-Inf.), holds a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Psychology and Sociology and a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Innovation Management from Technische Universität München.
