Instructor: Herb Kaufman, Adjunct Professor, Manor College, Editorial Staff, The Civil War NewsEspionage, spying, corruption, and criminal activity are among the world’s oldest and least publicized professions. This class details the story of manipulation and pretense between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr: how one of our greatest heroes became a legendary villain; the fascinating story of espionage and the infiltration of foreign agents into American life; and the lives and legendary era of the American Jewish mobster.

Instructor: Leila Joffe, MFA, American Conservatory Theater, Member AFTRA, Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Marvin Hamlisch and Jerry Herman were two of our greatest American musical theater composers. They composed Hello Dolly and A Chorus Line, among many other great shows. This course will take an in-depth look at their lives and the melodies they left behind!

The Power of a Photograph - A Visual Review of Moments in History 11-12 PM | COURSE FEE: $21
Instructor: Jay Gorodetzer, PhotographerSince its inception in the 19th century, photography has captured pivotal moments in history. Images have a way of generating an immediate emotional response like nothing else can. They open a window for us to view the world through eyes other than our own, providing us with a story that can’t be expressed with words alone. Advancements in photography made the camera an important tool not only to document history but also to help shape and alter it. We will look at some of the iconic images to unlock their success and the stories behind them.

In this course , we will explore issues surrounding media from a political lens including: the first amendment, freedoms of speech and the press; bias; how media is used in authoritarian regimes; ownership of media and the ways media is used to spread information and misinformation.
