We encourage all who have an interest in nature and the quality of our environment to become members of the National Audubon Society and of our local chapter, the Fond du Lac County Audubon Society. Your support of the national organization helps to promote action and programs on the national level and pays for your subscription to Audubon magazine, published bimonthly. Membership in our county chapter helps support local educational programs and habitat restoration in our own area. You’ll receive the local chapter newsletter, The Heron (published bimonthly) and all chapter benefits. Details of meetings, field trips, work projects, and special events are included, as well as information on local, state and national environmental issues. All members are asked to join or renew through the local chapter. If the member is also joining the national organization, part of the dues will be sent to the National Audubon Society. Protecting the Utah WildernessMoraine Park Technical College (MPTC), Room O-104Clayton Daughenbaugh, Chair of the Sierra Club’s National Wildlands Committee, will present a multi-media show documenting citizen efforts to protect Utah’s spectacular canyon country.

Saw Whet Owl Festival, Two RiversMeet at UW-Fond du Lac campus main entrance parking lot near picnic shelter to carpool/caravan at 7:30 am.Celebrate fall migration of the saw whet owl. Banding and release demos, bird hikes. $8 fee. Children welcome.

Birding Horicon MarshMPTC, Room O-102Erin Railsback, Visitor Services Manager at Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, will give a program on migratory bird species that use the marsh.

Zoopolis Tour, Nature in the CityTickets available at the Continuing Education Office in the UW-FdL Administration Building and at the Fond du Lac Visitors and Convention Bureau. Tickets can also be purchased at the sites: $10 or Special Bike Rate: $8. More information at www.fdlaudubon.org. Visit small private yards that are promoting bio-diversity, earth friendly practices and wildlife habitat. Discover pockets of nature in tiny urban spaces and hidden backyard oases in the heart of the city.

Wild Feast Potluck and Buckthorn Removal TacticsLakeside Park, Denevue Creek ShelterOur season kicks off with a potluck. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish made from wild plants, although conventional food is fine, too. Following the meal, find out how to eradicate buckthorn. Weather permitting, sailboat rides will be available.
