The Board of Trustees of SAAD would like to invite you and any other interested colleagues to attend our Conference. This year we are looking at three areas of interest, which have been asked for by members of the profession. Our aim is to provide you with practical tips on areas where SAAD members have sought advice as well as showing what other anxiety management techniques can offer our patients. We have organ-ised speakers who are clinically involved in the areas we have asked them to address, as well as being well recognised for their contributions to the debate in these areas.

The Speakers Sheldon Collins Having qualified from UCH Dental School in 1975 Sheldon established a practice where he first used IV Diazemuls sedation. In 1984 he pur-chased a practice where IV midazolam sedation was undertaken and has practised IV midazolam sedation since. In 2002 he undertook the Guy’s Diploma, as well as establishing Roving Dental Sedation Services as a peripatetic service. Since 2005 he has devoted his time to the RDSS and now lectures on section 63 courses on IV sedation.

(Yusof) Joe Omar Joe is a medical practitioner using conscious sedation for dental patients since 1984. With over 200 referring dentists in the London area, Joe has a vast experience base and has developed long treatment plans under sedation. He is on the Standing Committee on Sedation for Dentistry and on the Council of the Association of Dental Anaesthesia. Joe lec-tures on Sedation at the Eastman, UCL, and on Medical Emergencies at many national and international meetings.

André du Plessis André gained both his BMedSci and MBChB degrees from the Univer-sity of Pretoria. He has travelled extensively practising medicine. In the UK he has worked exclusively with the administration of conscious sedation. André holds a Diploma in Conscious Sedation and is presently enrolled in a Masters programme in Sedation and Pain Management. Since 2005 he has been coordinator of the Certificate programme in Conscious Sedation and Pain Management at Eastman CPD/UCL.

David Craig Consultant/Head of Sedation & Special Care Dentistry, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Member, Standing Committee on Sedation for Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England. Committee Member, SAAD, Dental Sedation Teachers Group. Mike Gow Mike is President of the British Society of Medical and Dental Hyp-nosis (Scotland), and has a Masters in Hypnosis Applied to Den-tistry. He has appeared on BBC TV demonstrating hypnosis for pain control in dentistry. Mike works in private practice at the Berkeley Clinic, Glasgow and often uses hypnosis instead of, or in conjunc-tion with, traditional conscious sedation techniques. He recently won Best Young Dentist – UK at The Dentistry Awards.

Dave Johnson David Johnson is a Wolfson Foundation Scholar graduating from Cardiff Dental School in 2001, with a research background. He is currently working in the CDS, mainly treating children and special needs patients. He previously held an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position in Oral Medicine at Cardiff Dental School. He is fully regis-tered with the British Dental Acupuncture Society, and has been using acupuncture as an adjunct to dental treatment since 2003. He is actively involved in practice-based research and audit within the areas of paediatric dentistry and dental acupuncture.

Diana Terry Diana has been associated with SAAD for 15 years and works as a Consultant Anaesthetist at University Hospitals Bristol. She is an Educational Supervisor with the Severn Deanery and runs Courses at Bristol Medical Simulation Centre.
