Programme in Local Government Law and Municipal Administration Presented by the Department of Public Law, University of Pretoria

Programme structure

During the programme, delegates will be able to interact directly with experts within the field of local government law and will also be able to ask and debate specific legal issues of interest.

Option 1: Class contact sessions

You will attend 5 classes sessions (5 consecutive week days) from 08:00 and 16:30

Option 2: Online training

If you are unable to attend in person, an online training option has been designed to facilitate the unique training needs of busy professionals and practitioners who wish to complete the course but are unable to attend classes on campus. Delegates enrolled for the online training will receive the relevant course material via courier, and will then be given access to a specific webpage in order to view a video of the specific class contact sessions. All administrative arrangements will be conducted online.

Please note: Delegates must have access to a computer and internet connectivity.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this programme, you should be able to• have a good understanding of the constitutional place and

role of Local Government• explain the composition, term, internal management and

general functioning of Local Government under the South African legal system

• explain the basic legal principles relevant to Local Government, and

• provide legal advice on a variety of constitutional and other municipal legal disputes.

• understand the latest statutory changes and relevant judical decisions.

Who should enrol?

The programme will greatly benefit administrators, political office bearers and members of the public working in/with local governments as well as lawyers, legal advisors and advocates

dealing with or advising clients on local government legal matters.

Programme fees and start dates

Admission requirements

Prospective delegates should at least have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and/or relevant work experience.
