NO NEW DELIVERABLES FORESEEN AS ATTACHMENT FOR THE MID-TERM REPORT
DELIVERABLES
“I wish to inform you that, on the basis of the information received
in
the report, the Commission considers that the project remains
viable and on track to achieve its objectives within the original
timeframe and is, therefore, allowed to proceed. “
INCEPTION REPORT RESULT
Technical issues
1. Please note that neither the Inception Report nor the B1 Technical Deliverable describe the results of SIP (Stable Isotope Probing), microbiological, proteomic and genomic analyses, though they were foreseen in the project proposal. Therefore, it is unclear whether these activities have been carried out in the "initial characterisation". Please describe the results of the afore-mentioned analyses in the Action B4 deliverable (or "time zero" characterisation) expected with your next report.
2. In the Technical Deliverable for action B2 you have discussed the choice of the organic conditioners to be used in the test parcels. After having carried out physical and chemical characterisations, you ascertained that the "goat and sheep manure” compost is the most suitable amending agent for the Biorem procedure. However, you explained that the compost used by partner Amek is a blend of organic wastes and pruning residues, partner Pantanello used a mix of manures and hydrolised animal proteins, and only partner Orgánicos used a compost of which the physicalchemical features correspond to the "goat and sheep manure". It is not clear why the two Italian partners decided to purchase and use commercial composts different from the "goat and sheep manure" compost used by the Spanish partner, commercially available and described as the most suitable amending agent for the Biorem remediation strategy. Please elaborate on this issue at the time of the next monitoring visit and in your next report.
INCEPTION REPORT RESULT
Technical issues
3. The Deliverable "Action B2: Demonstration of the addition of exogenous organic matter to 10 different types of soil " includes a photo gallery of all the project soil parcels in the ex-ante and ex-post conditions. However, the photos do not show the growth conditions of the planted shrubs and seedlings; maybe because they are at a too early stage. You are kindly invited to present, with the next report, an updated photo gallery of the test sites where the growth of the plants is visible.
4. Please be reminded that notice boards have also to be erected at the locations where the project is implemented (Common Provisions, art. 13.5), i.e. the test sites.
5. Please update your website with the recent results and dissemination tools of the project, e.g. the results of the initial characterisation, and the power point presentations in English and Spanish that you mentioned in the Inception Report.
6. Action E - Quality Assurance Procedures: the document provided lacks points: 1. quality standards, methodologies and procedures of Biorem and 2. procedures for the management of quality records. Please integrate them into the report and submit a complete version with your next report.
INCEPTION REPORT RESULT
Administrative and financial issues
1. Your table on the financial progress per action shows that some technical actions have been concluded with savings of about 50,000 €. Please explain the reasons for these savings in your next report and confirm that all relevant activities have been properly and fully implemented.
2. I understand that beneficiaries ISE and CSIC do not need to purchase any new apparatus for the project analyses. Please confirm, in your next report, that the SIP, microbiological, proteomic and genomic analyses do not require additional equipment.
