Hello, we’re in year 11 at Mengo School in Uganda,
Africa. In Uganda, lots of children don’t go to secondary
school. They start work when they are 11 years old.
We are lucky. In our school we study hard and the
school day is very long. Classes are from 7.30 a.m. to
5.30 p.m.We have five different subjects: Computer Studies,
English, Science, Maths and Nature. There are special
clubs after school, where we do different activities.
In the ‘Nature Club’ we plant flowers in the school
garden. We have a lot of space around the school
where we can play sports.
Our school is modern. There is a computer room,
where we surf the Internet and send emails. We
write to schools in Europe and America. There is a
science lab where we do experiments.
We work very hard at our school, but we love it!

Hi, I’m Ana. This is my school, Bolton Park
Secondary School. This is my first year in the
school. It’s a big school. There are 950 students.
We do ten subjects: English, Maths, Science, Design
Technology, Information Technology, PE, French,
Spanish, History and Geography.
These are the sports fields. I love sports. We play
football, hockey and rugby in winter and tennis and
cricket in summer. We’ve got a big gym, too.
This is the library. I read novels, magazines and
newspapers here. I also use the reference books
and computers. We come here to study and to do
project work.
This is the science lab. There is a lot of
equipment. We come here to do chemistry and
physics experiments. It’s interesting and fun.
This is the canteen. You can eat hot or cold food
here. The food isn’t bad but the canteen is very
