Shared Reading: EYFS, KS1 and

Is reading an area of focus for your class/school? Are you keen to implement a whole class approach which explicitly teaches all aspects of the reading curriculum? This training will explore the development of reading and make reference to expectations set out in the National Curriculum and Standards and Testing Agency. More importantly, it will enable delegates to ensure they have:

ü appropriate provision for reading at both Greater Depth and National Standards

ü confidence in planning and delivering effective shared reading sessions, using appropriate texts and resources

ü the key strategies, skills and knowledge required to teach reading decoding and comprehension

Cracking The Phonics

Screening Check in Year 1 &

Year 2

Outline: This professional development opportunity will arm delegates with essential skills and knowledge to help maximise the number of children to pass the phonics screening check. This interactive course unpicks the complex code and analyses the difficulties and barriers children have. It will also support practitioners on how best to address the needs of those children who do not meet the required standard. Cracking the Phonics Screening Check will provide delegates with the skills of diagnostic assessment and help them reflect on pedagogy and provision, improving outcomes for all children.

Delegates will explore the details of the STA summative assessments for reading; the exemplifications materials for writing and the National Curriculum expectations for grammar, punctuation and spelling. Is vocabulary development a focus for your school? Are you keen to broaden and deepen children’s vocabulary knowledge, supporting them in better understanding? This course helps to develop a school approach to the teaching of vocabulary, leading to stronger outcomes in terms of speaking and listening, reading comprehension and expressing ideas in writing.
