Celebrating 15 Years: Join us for a chance to win 2 saddles and a buckle.

www.theFencePost.com Monday, August 29, 2011 •The Fence PosT85

We are excited to celebrate our 15th fall sale on September 17, 2011, with some exciting new

changes. We are only selling Twombly ranch horses and Zan It’s entire 2011 foal crop. We are giving away great prizes. A trophy saddle will be awarded to the top buyer of the day. Also, we will be awarding a saddle to a person who judges the performance held the morning of the sale. This is open to the public — if you are 8-years-old and older you can be a participant. Score clos-est to the main judge and take home a new saddle. We will give a buckle away to one weanling buyer who will be chosen from a drawing. More details and rules will be announced sale day for prizes given.

The geldings that we offer for sale are hand picked by our family. We look for conformation, disposition, color, a great pedigree and athletic ability. We ride our geldings on average 15 miles per week through thick brush, up and down big hills and steep canyons. We train them approximately three hours per week in the arena which includes roping and dragging the hot heels, reining training, tracking, cutting and roping cattle. Also, the geldings spend approximately two hours per week in team roping training. This wide range of training develops sane and healthy minds. They are trained to be soft in the face, take their correct leads, stop on “whoa” command, to move away from neck rein and leg pressure. All of these training methods promotes a low head set and a relaxed ride. After training it’s a race to the wash rack for their bath which excites them.

Don’t let performance scare you if you are looking for a trail riding horse. Watch our videos and they will show you how

well broke the geldings ride with a one hand, loose neck rein.

We see Chimney Rock out our front door every day. It was the most noted landmark in all the pioneer’s diaries on the Oregon, Mormon, and

California Trails. It signaled the end of the prairies as the trail became more steep and rugged heading west towards the Rocky Mountains. The sacred pillar was used for target practice by army gunners during the Indian Wars. Pioneers used to climb Chimney Rock to carve their names in the soft Brule Clay. Travelers reported it was visible up to 40 miles away. The modern measurement is 325 feet from tip to base-some say it use to be three times that high.

Our ranch name — Coyote Slide Ranch — came from a section of Castle Rock which is called Coyote Slide. We love to live up here in the hills. We have seen coyotes, elk, big horn sheep, bobcats and of course rattlesnakes. It is great for the horses, too. They get a lot of riding experience in the open pastures, steep hills and rough canyons.

Please check out our website at www.TwomblyArena.com. We will post videos online of the foals and several geldings. This is an excellent tool for those of you who cannot attend and for the ones who want a sneak peak of what’s coming.

Thank you for your interest and we hope to meet you at the sale.

The Willie and Sharon Altenburg family own and operate Altenburg Super Baldy Ranch located just

north of Fort Collins, Colo. For the past 35 plus years, the Altenburg’s have been producing and improving their seedstock offering by selecting the best genetics available and then raising them in the same fashion as their commercial customers do. “We run the cows on a large grazing association in the summer, trail them home, graze hay stubble and stalks and calve outside in February.

“If that’s what our bull customers do, shouldn’t we make cattle that add value to the same production systems they use? That’s our philosophy here,” says Willie.

The Altenburg’s run 185 mother cows and utilize some cooperator customers to produce the 90-100 bulls they market each third Saturday in March at the Centennial Livestock Auction in Fort Collins, Colo. Though the primary offering is either SimAngus or Simmental bulls, they also market a select group of both Angus, both black and reds. The family also consigns high quality females to the well known “Wild Wild West Sale” which is held during the Simmental events at the National Western Stock Show in January at the Adams County Regional Park in Brighton, Colo.

As early adopters of technologies such as EPD use, A. I. and Embryo Transfer from elite donor females, the genetics produced by ASR find their way across the country and even around the world. It

is not uncommon to see the Altenburg’s utilize sires produced on their own ranch.

“Breed complimentarily is almost as important to our program as heterosis

is to our commercial customers”, says Willie. “We try to select and produce Simmental genetics that do what continental genetics should do, grow fast

and efficiently as well as add ribeye area and carcass yield. Our Angus and Red Angus programs prioritize calving ease and carcass quality, but we try hard not to chase extremes. Fertility, disposition, udder quality and structure are basics, we don’t make any decisions around here that jeopardize positive progress for these traits.” Call and stop by the ranch anytime to visit the Altenburgs and learn more about the “Super Baldy” plan to add value.

Willie is also very well known and respected as a long time industry advocate. He has worked in the artificial insemination industry for nearly 40 years and is one of the most widely recognized leaders in that business, the world over. He currently serves as Associate Vice President of Beef Marketing for Genex CRI.

Recently, Willie was awarded the 2010 Industry Partner Award by, Colorado State University for his contributions to the beef business. He has served on the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Board of Directors, American Simmental Association Board of Trustees, Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) president, along with local membership and participation in beef industry groups.

Genex Cooperative, Inc. is a subsidiary of Cooperative Resources International (CRI). Genex was

originally formed as the cattle genetics and artificial insemination (A.I.) subsidiary. In addition to becoming an industry leader in this arena, the cooperative diversified operations to also offer farmstead and milking equipment and livestock marketing services.

In all product and service areas, Genex is dedicated to meeting the needs of agricultural members and customers. That commitment is demonstrated through the cooperative’s mission statement — “Provide products and services as effectively as possible to maximize the profitability of members and customers worldwide while maintaining a strong cooperative.”

Cattle Genetics and A.I. ServiceThe cooperative’s primary operations

provide bovine semen and A.I. service to members and customers throughout the United States and Canada. The cooperative has a deep history in this industry as today’s Genex was formed over time through the consolidation and merger of nearly 50 different organizations; reputable organizations such as 21st Century Genetics, Federated Genetics and Noba, Inc. helped to form Genex.

Together, Genex and predecessors have provided high-quality semen from breed-leading sires for over 60 years. Today’s dairy lineup is a leading source of profitable, high Lifetime Net Merit genetics as well as high-ranking sires for all other traits. The beef lineup consists of bulls with performance and breed-leading EPDs that enhance profitability and long-term sustainability.

With customizable genetic and reproductive service plans, Genex meets the needs and goals of individual cattle producers. From corrective mating and sire recommendations to A.I., heat detection, synchronization, on-farm data analysis and complete reproductive consulting, Genex

professionals develop unique programs to best fit each specific dairy or beef operation.

Farmstead and Milking EquipmentFarm Systems, a division of Genex, is

known throughout the United States’ upper Midwest as a leading provider of high-quality farmstead and milking products. The division specializes in dairy cattle hygiene products, dairy milking and cooling systems, rubber flooring, controlled feeding systems, feed storage structures, manure storage structures, manure digesters and manure separators.

Farm systems has supplied the complete package of sales, installation and service for over 50 years. Fully-trained Farm Systems professionals offer complete product support from planning to completion including: assistance in determining equipment needs, facility layout, aid in gaining plan approval from local agencies, product installation, preventative maintenance programs, and emergency service 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Livestock MarketingCentral Livestock Association, a livestock

marketing organization headquartered in South St. Paul, Minn., became a subsidiary of CRI in 1999. In 2011, following a positive vote by delegates, CRI restructured Central Livestock as a company of Genex. The Central Livestock headquarters remains in South St. Paul.

As part of Genex, the 90-year-old company markets cattle, horses, swine, sheep and goats from prominent markets throughout the upper Midwest. These markets — in Albany, Rock Creek and Zumbrota, Minn., and West Fargo, N.D. — offer a variety of innovative marketing programs.

In addition to live cattle markets, Central Livestock markets cattle from across the United States through TEAM (The Electronic Auction Market). The online, interactive TEAM marketplace connects buyers and sellers over the Internet.

Starlight Farms has been around since 1998. Before that we helped on friends ranches working cattle

and we bred, raised and showed a few of our own horses. Since 1998 we have started our own breeding program with our Buckskin stallion King Bijou. King Bijou is known for producing foals with great minds, athleticism and color. These offspring are on ranches, in competition, and in backyards. In 2011 we added our young stallion Two ID Boonerang and we look forward to seeing him progress in not only his training but as a sire.

We are a small operation dedicated to producing horses with great dispositions, cow sense, and of course — color.

We are known for producing horses that have great dispositions that can go out and do a job or be the best friend of the everyday horseman.

The first foals from Two ID Boonerang will

hit the ground in spring of 2012, in addition to another outstanding crop of colts from King Bijou. Year round, we have horses available for Private Treaty, so feel free to give a call, go online, drop an email, or swing by — we’d love to show you our horses.

We will be having more clinics with Rich Scott of Vision of Unity Horsemanship including cow work, horsemanship, and ranch roping.

We will continue our Sunday roping practice open to all ropers, and early Sunday roping lessons for beginners.

Colors of the Fall Consignment Horse Sale, October 16, 2011 will be held at the Horseshoe Park and

Equestrian Center in Queen Creek, Ariz. We will be featuring a great selection of performance horses.

Jon and Marywade Gilbert, Horsebreakers Unlimited, specialize in the sales and breeding of quality buckskin and dun Quarter horses. We’re known for offering quality, exceptional horses with color, serving the discriminating horse buyer since 1987. We were the first sale company to go online and we are still the best with color photos, pedigrees and write-ups. We are now offering videos in our online catalog. We offer a professional and courteous staff including Colonel Steve Friskup as auctioneer. Centrally located, we’re an easy drive from Scottsdale, Phoenix, L.A., San Diego, Denver, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, in our outstanding new facility with large covered arena. It is snow bird season in the southwest, a great getaway for a horse sale. And maybe, most importantly — we offer the best soundness guarantee in America.

Horsebreakers Unlimited is widely known for their breeding program and their stallions showcase — including Scottish Bart, 1984 AQHA buckskin stallion, and Whizen By You, a 2000 AQHA bay stallion.

“Scotch” was bred and raised on the Speer Ranch in Athens, Texas, where he was used for gathering, doctoring, dragging calves and bulls and general ranch work. Obviously, he was also used as the ranch stallion.

Scotch produced most of the colts now being used in the remuda at the Speer Ranch. Although he has never been shown, his offspring have all the qualities necessary

for the performance arena and show ring. This became evident in July 1995 when a yearling colt sired by Scotch was named PHBA Reserve World Champion Amateur

Yearling Halter Gelding. This colt has already earned 40 PHBA Halter and 38 PHBA Lunge Line points.

1996 saw Scotch joining the ranks of World Champion Producing

Stallions when Skip Howdy Zip (a two year old palomino gelding) was named PHBA World Champion Amateur gelding and Reserve World Champion in Open.

With a full breeding schedule annually for more than 18 years — his foal crops have excelled at halter, reining, roping and reined cow horse events. They have excellent dispositions, are easy to train, lovely movers and he is producing color 85 percent of the time.

Whizen By You is a beautiful and royally bred stallion by TOPSAIL WHIZ ( NRHA earner of $53,868: NRHA Hall of Fame; Equistat #1 Leading Reining Sire since 2003; NRHA 2nd $5 Million Dollar Sire, etc. ) and out of the outstanding mare KAYS FRECKLES (NRHA earner of $24,819.00; 1999 Reserve World Champion Jr Reining; 1999 High Point International Reining; 1999 ROM: AQHA 24 points, $2,340.82). He was injured as a yearling and has never been shown. He is proving to be a performance sire by his recent foal crops.

Please take a look at our website to see a strong representation of the quality and type of horses we have to offer. If you don’t see the horse of your dreams listed please feel free to call or email, as we always have other horses available. Offering outstanding horses in all colors! Reiners, rope horses, trail horses, recreational, breeding stock — you name it, we have it!
